For RCI out of Tx only certain bottled may be used that have had state tax paid on them.  So limited drink menu at the start

This is the case with carnival also. Very limited Brands available.  Almost all of these are Bar Pour Brands that most people have never heard of.  I think People that purchase Cheers would be upset about not being able to get the brands they want so Carnival states that Cheers does not start till day 2 of the cruise

The steaks can be quite good but yeah that's a good plan.

In the past the cost was a good bit cheaper than a land steakhouse, but that's not really true anymore.

Then you don't live in a large metropolitan city.  The $49 cost per person can be less than half of a decent steak house in the states

I used to really enjoy the piano bar.  Now, not so much.

With a few exceptions, I don't think the musicians are as talented as I have experienced in the past.  Often there are a handful of cruisers who take over all of the good seats every night and monopolize the song requests.

And while I love the international aspect of the entertainment staff on Carnival, the last time I visited a piano bar, the performer's accent was so heavy, I was having trouble understanding what he was saying/singing.  He also distributed a rather limited list of songs, and apparently only wanted to take requests from that list.

As one of the handful of cruisers that take up all the good seats, you can always get to the piano Bar Earlier.  We usually get to the venue 45-60 minutes before stated start time so we get the seats we want.
