  1. Not everyone has fancy phones or tablets and even if they do, it doesn't mean they want them loaded with apps. Especially something you'll only use a couple of times a year. Plus reading the funtimes is free and requires no technology.

I like getting the printed funtimes. I actually keep them and scrapbook parts of it in our vacation albums. Yup, some people do actually still print pictures too:)

I agree. I have all the devices, however I can't wait to get on board and turn off the devices. It's nice getting a break from the technology world for a week..

  2. We've ordered them a couple of times on board, but not pre-cruise. I don't know how it works with anytime dining, but i'm sure there's a process. The cakes are really good too.

We have anytime dining and I just ordered my girlfriend's birthday cake to be delivered to the dining room. At checkout, I had to pick the date and there was no time option to deliver.

  3. Because it is a disaster in waiting.

it doesn't need to happen to everyone to be a disaster. To the person who gets overdrawn because of holds, it's a disaster.

To the person who gets hacked and loses all their money, it's a disaster.

This is what credit cards are for.

Motels, car rental companies and the cruise lines all warn against using them. That pretty much sums it up.

Are you sure about this? If so, I would like to see that in writing.

  4. It's a hold on the card. It still could cost you an overdraft fee.

This is another prime example of you never, ever use a debit card for this.

Not sure why you're telling everyone never to use a debit card. We always use a debt card and have had zero problems. We have also cruised with a group and the majority used their debit card with zero problems. We have good communication with our financial institution and they know our itinerary. I understand cruisers have and had problems from time to time with holds, however it doesn't happen to everyone.

  5. I wasn't necessarily directing the comments to you as I didn't know that you aren't Platinum etc. I said what I did because there are people that are FTTF and Platinum that have said their rooms aren't ready. As mentioned by others, the stewards have more rooms to clean and having people in the hallways that aren't supposed to be, makes their jobs that much harder. On most cruises we have been on, the cabins are available to all by 1:00 or 1:30 and we have either been told that when checking in or by listening for an announcement. I have also seen people stationed in the hallways preventing those not qualified to enter early from doing so. I guess I am a rule follower and not everyone is like me, lol.

I don't agree with going to the room early as I have posted above, but I love your sense of humor!

Don't you think having anyone in the hallways would make their job harder? Anyway we rather board the ship between 1-3 with no lines and go straight to our cabin.

  6. We have decided to cancel our day at Dreams, after reading the latest news on this mosquito disease. It appears to be running rampant in the DR.

We'll take the day and enjoy the ship to ourselves.:D

My question is, are there shops right in the port area, for t-shirts, souvenirs, etc?

I would love to be able to walk off for a little shopping, and then get right back on.

    Anyone?

    Thank you!!!!

You are posting this to tell people it is unsafe to get off the ship? Please!

  7. The best way to avoid fakes is to find a La Casa Del Habano in the ports you are visiting. They are the only Cuban 'sponsored' Cuban cigar store. There are some very good fakes out there so just find a reputable store. Google La Casa Del Habano and the island you're visiting. As TEXASMUNK already said, these days you can buy as good or better Dominican and Nicaraguan cigars but it's always nice to try the Cubans.

If you get caught smuggling Cuban cigars and customs determines they are fake, do you still get in trouble? :D

  8. Inspect them carefully! Fakes are rampant in the Caribbean. And, if they are real, check to insure they are fresh, and do not crumble in your hand!

    Enjoy!

But personally, Cuban Cigars have lost their glow, a quality Domincan is, to my taste, far better these days.

How do you spot a fake? I wouldn't know a fake from a real one.

  9. This is listed in the Fun Times.

  10. Can't wait to read more! We are going on the Sunshine out of NOLA on spring break! We are staying on Marriott points too. We are staying at the Courtyard by Marriott by the convention center. I'd like to know what you thought of your hotel. Maybe we should switch.

Just curious, why would you leave the City to stay in Metairie? You are close to the port, and plenty of walking options.

  11. I posted on the family board about being concerned about having milk for my son if he wakes up at night. I assumed there will be a mini fridge in the room, we haven't cruised in a while but I thought there were always mini fridges. We're in an ocean suite on the Pride. Will we have a fridge?

Just returned from a cruise yesterday, no fridge.

  12. DW and myself keep every receipt. Yes it stinks but total it up everyday and usually charges are pretty quick to show up on the TV. We had one accidental charge we didn't catch on our 1st cruise so now she watches it like a hawk. And we have found stuff that didn't match in the past but got it fixed without any questions! But OP I admit I love cruising with carnival but dw and myself will never cruise on the conquest again (My son got not yelled at screamed at for a drunk guy knocking him down in customer service line)! I kept my calm and said never carnival again but cruised other ship's on carnival and never had a single problem like that again!

I understand your frustration, however you do realize some of the crew does move to different ships? The same people you dealt with on the Conquest could be on your future cruise.
