  1. Wow.

As you have spoken to many people about your booking, which one(s) said there is “NO GUARANTEE that we will get a room”? I truly hope it is either an exceptional circumstance (see below) or the person was wildly incorrect. Depending who said the above I’d ask my TA escalate this concerns? Depending upon who said it, I’d contact the top gun.

I have always believed that a gty booking was a wonderful indeed a promise of a cabin would be provided on that ship and sail date and further that assigned cabin would be at least the gty category or higher. If the cruiseline can just turn you away if space is unavailable, they should be selling it as “stand-by” not as a guarantee.

I certainly can understand that a cruiseline could sell in good faith an appropriate number of cabins (including gty), then shortly before the cruise, discover a problem causing an oversold situation. For example, they could be forced to remove cabins from inventory due to unexpected mechanical/physical problem making cabins uninhabitable. Personally, if that happened, I would want the cruise line to contact local cruisers to offer a sweet “move over” deal to an alternate ship or alternate date. Having recently retired to Florida with a much more flexible schedule, I’d be happy to entertain such an offer.

I was told "ship is sold out" and "no guarantee" and "room assignment can take place up to the time the ship sails" by Royal Caribbean Customer Service AND by Crown & Anchor Customer Support. I do have the names of the individuals written down in case I need to reference them.

I agree 100% with the rest of your post.

  2. Sooooo, if someone books this and doesn't live 5 minutes from port, what? The customers has to buy airfare and hang out at the port to potentially be turned away? That sounds like horrible customer service.

Exactly. We are in Tennessee, planning to fly down in advance. We have already paid for round-trip flights and a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale prior to AND one night after the cruise. It's just irritating to me because I'd rather know in advance so that we could make new plans. This isn't a nice way for Royal Caribbean to tell me Happy Birthday. :(

  3. I am currently in this situation. Our cruise is in 11 days. We booked a "W" suite guarantee months ago. Still no assignment. I have called Royal Caribbean, my TA, and also talked to Crown & Anchor since we are Diamond members.

I have been informed that our ship IS INDEED sold out (and yes, it also appears that way online), with the exception of the 4-bedroom Presidential suite.

I have been informed that there is NO GUARANTEE that we will get a room and that the assignment can take place UP TO THE TIME THE SHIP SAILS. They made it sound like we could be standing at the port waiting for a "no show" and then take their room.

As a side note - I have booked at least 4 or 5 guarantee suites on past cruises and never had this issue. I received some very cool assignments and was happy. After this experience, I will never book a guarantee room again because it honestly has caused me to be stressed for weeks.

  4. Sometimes - it depends on the promotion. We had a Junior Suite on Allure and booked during a "free gratuities for suites" promotion. Our TA told us that Junior Suites were not included. When I read the fine print of the promotion, it stated that "Sea and Sky" classes were included. I provided the TA with the promotion details and proof that a Junior Suite is "Sea Class." She called Royal and confirmed, so we received the free gratuities.

  5. I'm sure some of you will think I'm crazy for asking this.......but when I look at the Room Service menu, I see items that I've never seen offered anywhere else on the ships I've been on. (where else could I get grilled quesadillas or chopped cobb salads or chicken fettuccine alfredo?)

Is it possible to request anything from that menu when in the Main Dining Room?

I am mainly asking because I've had issues with sickness on previous cruises and would have loved to just have some chicken noodle soup or a grilled cheese. My hubby really enjoys the dining experience, so I go with him even when I am sick....but usually don't eat much. So if those items are available for room service, why wouldn't they be available for request in the MDR?

  6. What in your wedding attire was "objectionable?"

We totally incorporated Disney into our wedding attire.

I went for the traditional Cinderella wedding dress look, but instead had the dress altered to be super short (way above the knee) and I had hidden Mickeys in my dress. I wore custom-made wedge flip flops that matched the dress. It was suggested that I change into dress shoes before going to Palo. NOTE: I did NOT change my shoes.

Hubby wore a Disney shirt, dress shorts, and Disney shoes. It was suggested that he change from the dress shorts into pants. It was also suggested that he switch the Disney shoes to dress shoes. He obeyed.

Ironically, while in Palo, we were spotted by a guest who had seen us taking photos around the ship after the ceremony....and they wanted to know WHY he had changed out of his Mickey shoes.

  7. We ate at Palo after our wedding ceremony. Our wedding planner "suggested" in the nicest way possible, that we needed to change before going to Palo. I actually thought this was a bit extreme. We were definitely dressed up for our WEDDING, but we ended up needing to go back to our room and switch certain items of clothing before we could go to eat at Palo.

  8. I totally agree with your comparisons. I posted a VERY similar comparison on the RCCL board when someone asked me how I could justify the price difference of a Disney cruise. For me, the 2 main areas in which they differ are food and service.

Until reading your post, I had actually forgotten how horrible embarkation AND debarkation was for Disney. YIKES! And we were the FIRST people to get on the ship because we were getting married....but we waited literally 4 times longer than it would have taken on RCCL. It was a complete zoo.

  9. We had a similar experience in Palo - server brought us an extra entree to try because it was something "new" they were going to add to the menu. We couldn't make up our mind on dessert, so we ended up getting several and sharing them. There was no extra charge.

  10. Have some friends getting married on an upcoming sailing and my wife and I would really like to go. Ship has been 100% full for past several weeks i have been calling and checking website daily. Anyone ever been in this type of situation? What are the chances of a cancellation happening with only 20 days until sailing?

Definitely keep checking. We recently had to cancel a cruise just 3 days before sailing because of a health emergency with my dad. So yes, cancellations do happen within 20 days of sailing!
