  1. If you categorize a "suit" as something other than "formal attire," then I imagine that very few have worn formal attire on a cruise, since dinner jackets/tuxedos are only semiformal in that conception!
  2. Also, if it helps despite being a different ship, Symphony for my August sailing has Truly Hard Seltzer in addition to Strongbow and Angry Orchard.
  3. Assuming not a joke, hard cider refers to alcoholic ciders specifically, whereas cider usually refers to non-alcoholic ciders (at least in the U.S.).
  4. All of that is completely vile. It seems weird that you have a combination of really good/elevated food with total partiers, since you think you would save costs by just putting out cheap and greasy stoner/drunk food. Perhaps VV is appealing to the glitterati set of wealthy young party people who eat a fancy dinner and then do bathroom bumps at the club.
  5. Was the drug use marijuana, or did it also include harder drugs? That seems weird for a cruise line to allow, although maybe that is part of the target clientele (and not something that VV can openly advertise LOL). I am still pressed about the dinky pool though. Who thought that having only one deck pool the size of a hot tub was a good idea?
  6. Probably, yes. It likely means the infection is ramping up rather than winding down. Give it a couple days.
  7. When I tested myself because I was experiencing symptoms, the line was very dark. It became fainter over time until it disappeared altogether. I cannot comment on what my tests would have looked like before I was symptomatic, because I do not know.
  8. VV seems to pride itself on "doing things differently," so I would be surprised if the ships got a standard stand-up comedian. (As an aside, I am not complaining, since I find stand-up dreadful, but obviously a lot of cruisers disagree.) The lack of live music is inexplicable to me given the existence of Virgin Records.
  9. I will gladly dress far more casually than that to make you look formal in comparison. Huge sacrifice on my part, I know.
  10. Why do you not view the 18% built-in gratuity as adequate? What percentage is adequate?
  11. We are talking about actual probability and causation, not legal assumption: "Wore a mask on the cruise at all times, and got covid because nobody else was wearing one and there were a lot of sick people."
  12. I am not sure why people are incapable of understanding the idea of probability. Was the likelihood that OP would catch COVID reduced if everyone masked up on the cruise? Yes. Was OP's going on a cruise necessary to catch COVID as they did? Yes. Was it sufficient? No. Would different actions by other cruises have reduced the possibility of transmission on board generally? Yes. Good grief. OP, I hope you recover.
  13. It won't. I am not sure what lived experience you think is needed here. Since you seem to be my biggest fan, I will make sure to tag you in all my write-up posts. I will make sure to snap a few pics of me in shorts in various venues as well.
  14. Not an expert on Canadian food safety regulations, but it seems like BC (and therefore Vancouver) may have similar requirements: http://www.bccdc.ca/resource-gallery/Documents/Educational Materials/EH/FPS/Fish/SushiSafety.pdf
  15. This is serving big "celebrities talking about how COVID is manageable from the multiacre estates and mansions" energy, although I admire your honesty lol.
  16. Almost all fish in the U.S. is required by law to be frozen before being served raw in order to kill parasites. Primary exceptions include some major tuna species and salmon (depending on farming techniques). Not sure how that applies to cruise ships/maritime law.
  17. Probably, since there is no dress code and they are not fancy enough to justify wearing a suit. I need to get a new pair of Birks; now I just have Crocs.
  18. If I had expert advice on the topic, I would not have asked the question.
  19. Sure, but they should still just call it sparkling wine if it's not champagne!
  20. Is "trailer dweller" derogatory, like "trailer trash," or is it neutral/positive?
  21. No. Running shorts, along with many athletic shorts, have built-in underwear (or "liners"). They are made of different material than swim trunks, and swim trunk liners are generally mesh, whereas athletic short liners are typically woven-in athletic underwear. For example, these: https://shop.lululemon.com/p/men-shorts/Pace-Breaker-Out-Of-Mind-Liner-9/_/prod8980444?color=5410. They are very versatile and comfortable, which is why I have around 13 pairs.
  22. That seems consistent with what I have heard. The menus on VV certainly look better quality and more refined/thoughtful than the menus on most other cruise ships. That being said, the miniscule pools on VV and a number of other difference-for-its-own-sake factors are making me pause, especially given the price.
