Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I can confirm that this is the case (Valiant Lady 2-15 May) You pay the whole amount if over not a difference. So althought the Moet is free by the glass and you can also enjoy the Champagne Hour on Richard's Rofftop (4:30-6:00pm) daily. If you want a Rose Champagne you have to pay
  2. We were Megas but the red book says you're not supposed to be charged if you are a rockstar. Phone, email or check with your agent on boarding.
  3. Sorry I should also add the Pizzas and Salads at the Pizza Place are really good. That and the Dockhouse Mezze were regular haunts for lunch. The Galley had started running a special of the day that you could find out about by looking at their offering at their stand.
  4. You are allowed 3 bookings for dinner on each restaurant ie Gunbae, Razzle, Test Kitchen, The Wake, Extra Virgin, Pink Agave. You can get further bookings, by joining the queue or booking late if its not busy, or by talking to your Rockstar Agent. So we went to the Wake 4 times, twice for brunch twice for dinner. That seems plenty as the menu does not really change on any of them. Test Kitchen was delicous but there is no menu, but I believe they are starting to alternate the menu between two choices weekly but Ican't really confirm that. I thought Razzle and Gunbae were also a bit limited in dishes so we only used them once. The others can definitely support 3 visits. The entertainment seemed spread out engough for us to have variety over the two weeks but a) we were not really there for that b) we made the most of port days. We did like the bands, and went to hear live music quite often. We had no interest in the Ship Show or many of the individual acts, but that's us not them. Duel Redemption was good I don't really want to outright name the figure for our upgrade as I don't feel that's fair to virgin. They have a minimum bid amount. We bid somewhere above that. We saw they were still selling suites so we didn't necessarily bid hugely higher but obviously it will depend on your cruise. Bids got accepted/rejected about 48 hours out. You can make as many bids as you want. They give you a rather inexact slider between the minimum bid they list and the equivalent of full price.Your highest acceptable bid will probably get chosen if you succeed. Suites are perishable goods, so any revenue is profit and the minimum bids is so they can make it viable.
  5. _tacocat_ What you say is accurate, but I only really wanted the paper to know which restaurant was open when , they vary a lot as to when restaurant or bar is open so it is frustrating to wait for the app to find out. Events we used the app I do have a three year old phone but that's no excuse for the app. janbear I didn't check the bill, so I think we were but TBH the staff do seem to be helpful for Megas. We bid on multiple suites most of which were not Rockstar, we made an effort to bid better for the Mega Posh Suite which is the lowest tear but perfectly fine. I researched which ones were still being sold. In a not unsrprising turn of events they chose the bid that cost us the most but frankly we had no regrets and we would buy it again though probably not at full price, after all who pays full price
  6. Right I'll try and keep this briefish. Just back from the above cruise. We booked a Sea Terrace on Offer but used bids to get Mega Rockstar byt paying extra. The ship was maybe around 1/3 capacity. Me and my partner have never cruised but we do our best to travel on a fairly luxury budget but usually using 2 for 1 sales etc. We usually fly everywhere in at least Business and sometimes 1st with a good 2 for 1 deal. We eat at good restaurants and even booked a couple of Michelin stars on shore during the cruise. Overall verdict: Fantastic Time. Really felt like a great holiday and I understand the attraction of crusing Favourite Dining: The Wake, Test Kitchen, Extra Virgin, Pizza Place Favourite Bars: On the Rocks, SIP Lounge Extras that were worth it, wine list is pretty good and quite reasonable, Afternoon Tea (SIP Lounge on sea days) It turns out as we like our wine/cocktails that Mega Rockstar was the package for us. We saw a copy of the notional beverage spend (almost all food is included) and frankly it was close enough to the price we paid to upgrade. Having the Mega Rockstar agent do stuff for you was great, eg fresh bucket of ice twice a day. free laundry, sorting out bookings without using the app. Getting bookings when places were notionally full The food is really good. We didn't use the Galley a huge amount, but its really nice and we tried most sections. One day we got a bottle of wine from Richard's Rooftop and the barman opened it put it an icebucket and carried it to our room on the floor below. We then went off and got a picnic of favourite dishes from the Galley and ate in our room while catching up with a bunch of stuff on laptops. We ate in room for breakfast mostly. This was nice but see caveats. Bottomless bar is truly bottomless. We had way too many mornings with tender heads. Its effectively almost all individual drinks are free and you can order bottles of wine up to $90. I said we like our wine so on a couple of occasions we had bottles above the limit or pink champagne which is above the individual drink limit. To be honest the overall wine selection is very good. And in fact its reasonably priced. Strangely the crew do not know what they have and never tried to upsell me to better drink which is frankly crazy. Oh and if you buy someone a drink then you pay for that. Cabin was lovely and kept very clean with turn down services etc, always fresh still and sparkling water and as we had a Mega Bar in room a bucket of ice was brought twice a day. Your Agent will ensure its stocked with what you want so we always had plenty of tonic for your G&Ts Caveats: The Coffee. I'm a dinosaur I like a European espresso. The Inteligentsia is a American or Modern or Hipster roast, I could tell just by looking at the beans. As we had plenty of port stays it was not really an issue but it would make me think twice about say a Carribean or Australia Cruise or one with lots of sea days. I freely admit I'm a coffee snob and we normally check out hotel pictures for Nespresso machines and bring our own capsules. Currently bringing your own is not allowed which is a shame. Ship Eats - Room Service breakfast was struggling. Every day had a random but unforgivable fault - toast with no butter, toast still white, drip coffee not speciality coffee. Our agent tried to fix this but was being let down by Ship Eats. I spoke to the "Hotel Manger" equivalent and I think they found a place to check the order before delivery and the problem was resolved. I think this is just teething troubles and accept that it was our choice to have room service not go to the Galley which was on our deck and not far Restaurant Service. Everyone was really good and friendly and happy to do stuff, but overall the service felt a bit rushed like they were over anxious. So you'd get a menu then be asked if you wanted a cocktail, no wine list was automatically offered in many restaurants, so we'd order and our starters would arrive and then the cocktails. The menus are printed for US service, so they talk about local florida tangerines, maine lobster east and west coast oysters. I do care about food miles, so this is a bit crazy, we did ask and were told the oysters were from the last but one port and were fantastic. But this leads to further problems that dishes won't always quite match the description, nothing too terrible but chanterelles became King oyster mushrooms and that's depsite us seeing nice chanterelles at the local market. Anyway I just think the servers need better instruction on changes an or they print out new menus. The App/Wi Fi. The onboard wifi is about tolerable. but on sea days beware if you have say a sensitive banking app. I think over time it got better because people avoided using it. I still have free roaming so I turned WiFi off immediately on arriving at port. Everybody struggles, even the crew who are looking at their devices. This is not that they are doing personal stuff, its that your orders are charged via your wearable and even their app is so unreliable that its contstantly restarting. By the end of the voyage I really avoided it. If your are a Rockstar ask your agent to deliver a printed daily for the ship. This is important so you can see which venues are open easily, you could lose 10 minutes trying to do the same on the app.Again teething issues as apparently the developers were on board our cruise trying to fix things. Feel free to ask any questions. Really quite sad to leave, we had such a nice time.
