  1. My daughter and i have been cruising together for the last few years. We've sailed rc and carnival; this was our first with ncl on the getaway over spring break out of NYC. I don't think i would sail again with NCL.

    1. Even though we got a balcony room (for the first time), it felt really narrow. I thought it would be roomier than an inside but it didn't feel like it.

    2. There were no kids channels on the tv. On RC, they have at least 2. For the late night before my daughter goes to sleep, she sometimes watches TV.

    3. The kids club was closed on port days. On carnival and RC, they are open. It's nice to explore the port on my own and knowing my daughter is in good hands.

That being said, I did enjoy the meals in the specialty dining. My daughter did enjoy herself; she loves vacations and making new friends.

Just noticed that as well on the ferry to St. George!

And another update: not only are we not staying a bit later, we are leaving early. The captain announced that we are sailing Thursday at 6 PM to avoid worsening weather conditions on the way back to New York.

This seems a bit dodgy to me—Windy shows poor sea conditions on Friday that seem to get better on Saturday. I’m wondering whether they are covering for propulsion issues.

They’ve issued us another $100 of OBC, but I’m less than thrilled.

I’ll write up thoughts when we get home, but we have definitely seen evidence of cutbacks. The food has been decidedly lower quality than in the past, and the entertainment hasn’t been great.

We’re booked for August on the Joy, and leaning towards keeping our reservation, but this trip has been somewhat disappointing. Some of that is due to weather, which is beyond the control of NCL, but the product has suffered a bit. Not as dramatically as I’ve heard on here, but enough to notice.

I missed this announcement! Glad I read it on here

  3. A little unrelated to your question but with the prices the way they are... I might start taking vacations during school time with my 7 year old. It's considerably less!

Thanks @mking8288! We’re going to be driving up from Philly at around 2:30 PM today, targeting an arrival between 4 and 5 PM.

I figure the terminal at 3 PM will be mobbed, so better to skip the initial rush.

Looks like we’ll have a nighttime sail away from New York—should be lovely!

Probably a bumpy ride tomorrow, but we’re prepared with Bonine, sea bands, ginger candies, and past experience.

Weather for Bermuda looks nice too! I wouldn’t be surprised to see us arrive late Tuesday or even Wednesday.

I'm coming from Philly too! Same time and everything. I figured it would be crazy at 3pm!

We brought three bottles just to drink in the room/on the balcony.  Two bubble wrapped in luggage that was checked and and one in a backpack, so it really wasn't any real burden.  Drank the dry rose' and the white, brought the red back home.  Your tiny fridge may not hold more than two sparklers unless you remove the door rack.

Yea. I bought the bags on Amazon for the wine. In the past, the room steward has been great with keeping ice in the ice bucket.

Our first cruise we brought wine onboard and honestly for us we thought it was kind of a pain having to carry it around all day until our room was ready.  Yes you get better choices by bringing your own but there are some good selections on the ship.  You do pay more then bringing your own but for us we prefer the convenience of just buying what we want onboard.

That's the other thing. I would bring a carry on (a smaller one) just for the wine. And then have to carry it around but I'm arriving pretty late so it wouldn't be for too long... I still have about 2 weeks to decide

We have the Premium Beverage Package on our Confirmation Email and also ALL4CHO in the "Promos" and can take on all the wine we want.

Check your Confirmation to check what you have on yours.

How does this compare with the "udp" that is quoted?

I dont have a beverage package. I usually bring wine or just get 1-2 drinks the entire cruise.

If you take the FAS udp ($21 a day) you can bring on unlimited wine without paying corkage. Otherwise, it’s still cheaper to buy your own and pay corkage.

I didn't plan on doing the udp... I'm still deciding on what to do. I did manage to look at the wine list

  9. I've sailed before gty before and we're 20 days out. I don't have a cabin number yet.Should I wait until the last minute possible to print luggage tags/boarding pass in case they do assign me a room? Or should I print them now with no room number assigned?

We’ve been cruising for over 29 years and over 50 cruises and many were inside, hardly ever in the room but now we do get balcony or ocean views often. Makes it better when sickness onboard as post pandemic travel seems more problematic than before. $300.00 would make sense. Sometimes certain websites include free gratuity with balconies, just got off getaway and had a balcony included free tips! Bjs club booking like costco

That was a part of the "should i...", the gratuities included lol
