  1. Hey Everyone,

In addition, for the November 16 sailing, I was able to go into the Cruise Planner and book Mama Mia and Starwater. There are 4 restaurants available for booking; Silk, American Icon, Chic, and Grande. All times were available for my choice of nights in American Icon and Silk.

I hope everyone gets what they want. :)

  2. Your post should realy get their attention, but I fear they will not react quickly.

Consumers buy on Value! That said, the value spectrum is not equal between consumer groups.

Another fact is that lines like NCL oversell categories targeting solo travelers, using their Studio category to really offer 1.3 to 1.6 fares on a guarantee.

I just sailed last week on their new Getaway and was assigned a balcony BA category in the end, having paid the T1 GTY studio fare.

While 200% has always been the industry norm for 'brochure' pricing on cruise ships, the industry has never before had the current inventory available nor was the societal shift toward more and more solo travelers prevelant.

While I fully expect and want RCI to do everything to remain profitable, I also now expect capacity controlled offers on some sailings with excess inventory projected to make cruising affordable for solo travelers.

They recently had been running a 2 for 1 offer on Vision in April, where a couple could book an outside for $700 for two and then they wanted $1098 for me as a solo. The real issue also became that a family could add an additional passenger and still get a fare that was below my solo total price. I do not see how that is not just discriminatory!

That is interesting about the NCL pricing, thanks for pointing it out. I haven't sailed them in several years due to 200% single rates on almost every sailing.

  3. Anyone looking for a TA next Spring? Independence of the Seas is coming up at ZERO single supplement for the May 4, 2014 sailing from Miami to Southampton - 14 days. Insides are $688 (plus taxes), balconies are $1153 (plus taxes) - some nice stops in the caribbean as well! I've booked even though I'm not sure I can get the days off work, but I have till February to try and work that out...

Thanks, I'm using this as a placeholder for a spring sailing.

  4. This may be old news to many of you, but Princess will be home-porting the Grand Princess in San Francisco beginning late 1Q or early 2Q, 2013. They have scheduled multiple 15-day Hawai'i cruises as well as shorter AK and Mexico trips. Sigh:rolleyes:... oh, if only it were a Celebrity ship! Princess' frequent cruiser benefits suck compared to those of Celebrity and RCCL.

I agree, we can hope for a Royal return to the West Coast. :)

  5. I, too, echo the praises of Luca. BTW: his name is Luca Iorio, NOT Lorio. For some reason, folks keep spelling it with the "L" when it's an "I." So please correct the listing, thanks.

Good catch. All along I thought that his surname was Lorio, but, in checking his card I was wrong. :)

  6. NCL Spirit New Orleans to Barcelona

    April 15-28, 2012 13 Nights

Single Inside from $644 plus taxes and tips

Single Outside from $749 plus taxes and tips

These prices may reflect basic (not even Bronze - yet) Latitudes membership

Similar, if not exactly the same, prices from Miami for 11 Nights

Plus, today - Friday, March 2 - only: $100 per stateroom OBC (NCL website)

Flights from/to ORD, for example, day before/day after from $1330

Great find, I wish that I didn't already have plans....... :)

  7. Charlotte, is that you, my tablemate from the Voyager last May? I almost emailed you to see if you wanted to room with me on the Voyager this April on the Ta, then on to Dubai. I see you are taking another cruise, just not the same one as me, lol

    Hey barbyj,

I see that we are on the same itinerary. See you onboard.

  8. We had Israel on Voyager and he was great. But our cruise is upcoming in March and folks on our Roll Call were hoping to hear about Luca....preferably GOOD things about Luca....

Without intending to touch off any firestorms, can you elaborate somewhat on whether Luca provided good service as the Concierge and, if not, why not?

    Thanks,

    VR,

    T Lex

Luca was very good on the Navigator out of Rome back in the summer of 2010. I don't require much from the concierge, but, he was helpful with information on the local area. He had great lunch suggestions for all ports and was able to get my passport back from Guest Relations. He was very proactive in dealing with guests, not one of those who sit at the computer much of the time.

  9. I am thinking of going on a cruise with royal caribbean .What are they like for solos? can anyone give me information on what kind of things they do ?

I've become loyal to Royal Caribbean because they have great solo rates on many sailings, many are WAY less than 200% of the single fare.

  10. I noticed that fares went down yesterday for many of Royal Caribbean's Transatlantic saililing in April and May. There were reductions for the Grandeur, Jewel, Adventure, and Liberty (maybe more). If interested head over to the Royal Caribbean site and select Transatlantic sailings in the 'Find A Cruise' front page function. Work your way through the booking process to get the final fare for one passenger.

For example the Adventure of the Seas, April 15, 2012, from San Juan to Malaga, inside single guarantee, comes out to $649.76.

I booked the Voyager which is a bit more.

Deals like these are what we wait for each year !! :)
