  1. I'm cruising solo in November. I'm looking for tour recommendations for St. Martin and St. Kitts for 1/2 day island/beach tours with minimal shopping. Trying to find tours who are the most solo-friendly. I'd like to be put with a group but not be the lone stranger attached to a large party. I generally do the Carnival excursions but for these islands, nothing fits what I want and I'd like a little more freedom to customize my tour.

  2. I've been asking this question for 6 weeks but have never seen an answer. I am traveling solo on the Splendor in a 1A for my first cruise. Here is my invoice for a trip that was marketed for $369 per based on double occupancy. Thanks in advance!

    Your Price: $315.00

    Taxes and Port Charges: $298.29

    Processing Fee: $24.99

    Total Price: $638.28

Generally, if you book a solo 1A directly through Carnival, you pay 150% of the base rate (cabin + taxes) plus port charges. Your numbers are broken down differently, so it's hard to tell what you were charged. Also, there is no processing fee when booking directly through Carnival.

  3. I have 1249 booked on the Pride. This isn't normally in a location that I'd book, but it was the only 1A that was available. Does anyone know anything about the noise level? I believe it's under some public areas on Deck 2. This is my first time on the Pride so I know absolutely nothing about this ship. Thanks.

  4. I posted this on the Barbados board but didn't get any responses.

Does anyone know of a private tour where you can snorkel and go to the wildlife reserve? I can find one or the other, but not both. I'm not thrilled about having to take a private cab to the reserve and would prefer to spend the day with a small group. As my cruise time gets closer, I'll try to get something going with my roll call group. Thanks.

  5. This is a cabin that was converted from a 1A to a 6B. The pictures are taken from the window down the hall to the door, a picture of the double bed, and a picture taken from the closets to the vanity area. There are the usual number of closets, and the bathroom is standard.

  6. On my last cruise (Valor, November 22) there were assorted sandwiches and desserts at tea, but no scones. Funniest part was that I practically had to beg for milk for my tea. The chicken salad sandwiches were wonderful. I wish they served them full size in the deli. It was in the main dining room from 3:30 to 4:30 and you could tell the servers wanted us in and out fast because they had to set up for early dining. It's nice to sit at a table in the dining room, but tea in one of the lounges is less rushed, and you get piano music.

  7. Does anyone know if they have tea on the shorter cruises? We will be on Sensation for a 3 night in November and my mom and I love tea. I think my boys would enjoy it too; they both enjoy tea and love little snacks. And if anyone will be on the crui9se with us, I promise to keep a close eye on them and make sure they behave themselves.

Yes, I was on a 3-day Elation cruise and there was afternoon tea on the sea day.

  8. NCL has several ships chartered as floating hotels for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. I looked into booking one but they were outrageously expensive.

I'm planning on going to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and then taking a transatlantic cruise home afterwards, but that's about as close as combining the two as I'll get.

  9. This may have been answered before and if so, I apologize. I've cruised before, so I understand how customs works when you disembark. Because we are flying out of San Juan, will we have to go through International Customs (yes, I realize that Puerto Rico is a US territory, but when you call Delta to ask about flights to San Juan, they transfer you to the International department) when we land back in the continental US? We're flying on Delta from San Juan to Atlanta and then on to Kansas City and I wonder if we're going to get stuck in a line at International customs in Atlanta. Any experience with this? Thanks!

I flew in and out of San Juan last year for my cruise and never got anywhere near US Customs at the airport. Only had to do it getting off the ship. JetBlue considers San Juan a domestic flight. If I were you I'd call someone else at Delta.

  10. RCCL has some great single senior rates on the Majesty for their 3 dayers out of Miami. They're generally under $300 all inclusive, sometimes for an OV. If airfare wasn't so high, I'd be doing more of those.

I just booked another great solo 1A on the Carnival Victory for a Southern Caribbean cruise out of San Juan for Thanksgiving week 2010. When those 1A's with a window are available, I grab them as soon as I can. With the early saver price it was only $797 including all fees and taxes.

  11. I've read about the 1A cabins on this forum. I have looked at Carnivals website and when I try to check prices for a 1A cabin for various different cruises, I am quoted double the prices shown. I am changing the number of passengers from 2 to 1 and all the prices double, nothing about a 1A comes up. What am I doing wrong? How can I find these 1A cabins online?

    Thanks in advance.

After you get to that point, click on the tab labeled "Category" and scroll all the way to the bottom. You'll find the 1A cabins there. Make sure you check all the special rates you qualify for - location, past cruiser, senior, early saver, etc.

  12. With the future cruise certificate - do be aware that the onboard credit for a solo traveler is only 1/2 the amount for double occupancy - even if you are paying a 200% supplement for the cabin.

    Em

I pay a single senior rate. It generally works out to about 140%. The OBC is just icing on an already wonderful cake so I don't care how much (or little) it is.

  13. Is there a lA cabins on the Sea Princess. Or equivalent?

If so what are the cabin numbers?

    Thanks

    Doris

As far as I know 1A cabins are only found on Carnival ships. Other lines have single cabins, but they are not the same thing. Princess does not have an single occupancy cabins.

  14. Where do you see a $100 FCC and $100OBC discount?

It's not on the website, it's just something I've seen discussed on the Carnival boards. I intend to check it out on my November cruise. I've seen the future cruise desks, but never stopped to talk to anyone before. However, even without those incentives I'll still book the Carnival cruise.

  15. I just priced my November 2010 Thanksgiving week cruise on both Carnival and Princess. Both to the Southern Caribbean out of San Juan, ports almost similar. The early saver 1A price on Carnival (with a cabin with a window or portholes) is $733 (not including a $100 FCC discount plus another $100 OBC). The solo inside price on Princess, including a $100 FCC, is $1198 and an obstructed OV is $1348, almost double. As much as I love Princess, this is why I cruise Carnival.

  16. Just got back from a 3 day Elation cruise to Catalina. I had cabin U175, an inside 1A. Not having natural light wasn't too bad, but I think I'd rather have a window or porthole for any cruise longer than 3 days. Having room service as a wake-up call every morning helped. It's exactly like the pictures shown here. Lots of room, especially for one person.

  17. Thanks for all the information. I'm really looking forward to some R&R after a week visiting with family in California (I live in Maryland).

I'm talking with some girlfriends about a Canada/NE cruise in September, but even with friends going, I think most of us are going to get solo cabins since we all live alone.

  18. Thanks for the pictures. I booked the cruise - going on the Elation on June 4 for a 3 day Baja quickie. I have cabin U175. What did you think of the ship? I generally do OVs so I'm kind of concerned about the lack of natural light, but I guess I can use room service or a wake-up call or alarm clock to make sure I don't oversleep. The price was just too good to pass up - $268. It was almost double that for a solo OV. I'm going to check closer to sailing to see what kind of upgrades they're offering.
