You're right, I give up. Apparently I haven't been watching enough action movies, and the gangs could decide to put aside their attempt to take over Port-au-Prince, and instead mount a large scale operation to take over a cruise ship. Doing all this during broad daylight, since ships are only there during the day.

Pull up a map and see just how far it would be to take a boat from Port-au-Prince to Labadee.

There's nowhere for a plane to land at Labadee. The geography alone would make it difficult for a large group of people to get there.

It's also pretty isolated. Peninsula with pretty steep mountains blocking access from the rest of the country.

Not to mention that if he were to eventually take power, he would benefit from having RC bringing millions of dollars per year into Haiti.

Pretty sure he's pretty occupied trying to take over Port-au-Prince for now.

Look at a map and see how close Cap-Haitien is to Labadee. While they're not seeing the same level of violence as the capital city, there has been some violence and gunfire just as recently as this past weekend.

Cap-Haitien, which isn't far from Labadee, has seen a spike in violence as well. It's not just confined to the capital, but spread to basically every large city. That said, it would be suicide for any gangs to attack tourists at Labadee, try to rob them or hold them for ransom. Given the large number of American tourists on any RC ship, any such action would very likely draw a response from the US military. I don't think the gangs are that stupid.

Any armed attack on tourists at Labadee would be a quick way to get the US military involved.
