  1. I booked early Saver not realizing that the rules have changed since the last time I had to cancel -and there was no fee.

Of course now my hubby and I have decided to cancel and have found out there is a fee. BUT I read two different answers on the Carnival site. One said it was the whole deposit ($500) and one said it was a $50 fee, then the other $450 goes into a future cruise credit.

Can anyone clear the air? I have searched for the answer but can't find it. Thanks all!

  2. I enjoyed the Oasis - however, when we went it was double the price of a regular cruise for us so that turned us off a bit. Obvioulsy that isn't an issue for you.

I agree with the pp was said that the focus was not on the seeing the sea so to speak but the ship was a unique experience from other cruises we were on.

I loved having the flow rider, zipline & rock climbing but the lines for these things were a bit annoying.

It was also annoying to have to pre-book your shows as we couldn't get into the ones we wanted (comedy club filled up early!).

For a $300 difference I wouldn't hesitate but imo doing the oasis once was enough for us.

  3. I say do as you please. Its you vacation. I always bring my own glass of wine. I have no idea if others bring cans of soda or tumblers. I don't look at others tables. I think that would be more tacky then anything. Enjoy your vacation your way!

This is funny becuase I am sitting here thinking back and I don't think I look at others tables either. I personally wouldn't bring a travel mug to the table but I do bring my own wine in a glass to the dinning room. Sometimes I have white wine in a 'red wine' glass and I wonder if other look at it and think it is 'unclassy' but then I give my head a shake becuase I don't really care what others think!

  4. I personally wasn't impressed with the gluten free options on our recent cruise.

The gf bread was the worst I had ever eaten. I found that it just wouldn't toast! I worked with the deli station and she tried and tried to get it toasted but no luck! She even grilled the bread before making the sandwich and then again after the sandwich was made. I ended up ordered a sandwich without bread on the last day and ate it with a knife and fork. It was pretty good. I wish I thought of that eariler.

We tried to order the gf bread in the dinning room for breakfast and we sent it back 3 times to get it toasted but it came back just warm not toasted. We found it tasted gross.

The did NOT have gf muffins, french toast, bread, or pancakes at the buffet.

The gf pizza was also horrible. It was really puffy. At home I get gf pizza from the grocery store freezer section or at pizza pizza and it is always a thin crust.

For dessert we usually had ice cream or the gf chocolate melting cake. I was dissappointed that they didn't make gf brownies or cake. I am not a big dessert person but my dh is and we both thought there would be more options.

  5. It is an interesting walk if you choose to do it and know how. The first 15 minutes after you leave the port is best done from the walking trail that goes down the center of that main street Crewsweeper was describing. Check this blog for photos and more detail. http://ahhhmahahual.wordpress.com/2012/11/21/great-use-of-median-strips-in-mahahual/ Most do not even know that trail exists but it is a gravel trail with lots of foliage, birds, butterfly's and so forth. Don't try a stroller on the trail though. It is heavily wooded so plenty of shade and log benches to sit an rest. Right before the highway portion of the walk, about 15 minutes into the walk, there are a couple small stores to get water if you need it right before the highway. There is no Pemex, it is 2 miles the opposite direction as you are leaving the town, but the trail ends at the highway. The walk along the shoulder is as described above, wetland mangrove trying to recover from major hurricane damage 6 years ago. That walk is not unsafe, the shoulder is wide, but it is in the sun and not much to see unless you like wetlands. It takes 5 minutes. The last part of the walk is along the ocean. You'll see the lighthouse as you start down the highway. Walk towards it. The malecon starts there and there is a small navy base there. You can see the entire downtown oceanfront from that location. Also good snorkeling in that same area before you go into town!

We took this trail and walked. It took us longer then this suggestion, a total of 45 minutes each way. Also the stroller was not an issue on the trail. It was a pretty hot walk. My DH was eagar to get back to the ship so we didn't spend much time there. Just walked the strip. If we had of stopped and had a drink (we did buy drinks at a store but kept on walking) it would have been better but DH doesn't like all the people harrasing you. We brought water for the baby and he didn't mind the walk at all - slept on the walk there and the walk back. Ended up swimming in the pool at the port to cool down.

  6. We just returned from travelling with our 10 month old. We did have a car seat with us but that was mostly becuase we were renting a car after and HAD to have it for that.

That being said, we used it more then we expected. We thought we could avoid the car seat issue in Florida by taking shuttle "bus" as it is not a legal requirement on a bus. But every shuttle we were on was either a mini van, an svu or a passenger van so we needed it for everything.

On the islands we avoided the whole issue by taking the stroller and walking everywhere. I know that isn't an option for every island or every person (and one day that we walked 2 hours in the blazing hot sun was a bit much!).

I like the boat option for your particular case - a life vest is much smaller to bring.

Like some others have said, the taxi cab may not even have seat belts as well.

I have read that some people strap their baby to themselves with an baby wearing/carrying item (Egro and Beco are good for babies up to 2 years old) for the taxi and that would be easy to pack too.

    Good luck!

    :)

  7. Just back from the Legend and we booked a Vista Suite for this exact reason.

While it is not a totally separate bedroom, it has a living room and a dressing room (in addition to the bedroom). We used the dressing room as a bedroom for our 10 month old. There are doors on all of these rooms.

You do, however, need to access the dressing room to get to the washroom which was a bit of a pain.

$2400 (taxes in) for an end of January cruise for 3 people.

  8. Just checked my email and I got another one from Carnival. In it has lots of packing tips, guidelines etc. Also says:

"If you want to beat the rush and have flexible travel plans, please arrive at the port to check-in between 10:30am and 2:30pm."

This is a direct quote from the first email regarding this:
