  1. We have cruised on Wonder with friends, also in adjoining balcony rooms, and the stateroom attendant opened the partition between our rooms for us (we also had a door between our rooms). It was great having an extra long balcony! Ask about this if you’d like!

    Thank you!

  2. Since you call yourself a Newbie, you may not be aware that private taxis or other shuttle options will be cheaper than Princess transfers.

If sailing from a North American port, search the North American homeports section on CC, if sailing from somewhere else search the Ports of Call section for threads about transportation.

Sorry, Alaska Newbie was my name from our Alaska cruise in 2009.

Will be flying into Vancouver, cruise return to Vancouver, fly to Victoria then to Windsor.

Our first cruise we did all princess hotels and transfers. It was just easier, hubby had had a stroke 2006 and we started travelling again and Alaska was the bucket list cruise.

I'm sure we could get taxis from the airport and cruise port etc.

  3. September in California is beautiful (been in the Bay Area 13 years). April is definitely cool, and will be cool in the evening if outside for sure. Very little humidity here and the Pacific Ocean is always 53 - 57F so sets the tone. So-Cal is also better in Sept. To sum it up: I would not hesitate to book Sept - would think hard about April.

That sounds perfect to me. Thanks for the weather info on San Fran.

Next September is far away but it will come quickly, lol.

  4. My vote is for the California Coastal. San Francisco is on our bucket list and hotels there are expensive!!

We're thinking of booking the 10-day RT from Vancouver in 2018. I posted on the West Coast Departure board with little response, so was happy to see this discussion. My question...

April 25 (includes Monterey, Star Princess) vs Sept 24 (substitutes San Diego, Emerald Princess). Both O/N in SF and the other ports are the same. We've sailed on both ships before. Might the Sept 24 sailing have better weather and/or seas? Unpredictable with climate change, but interested in people's experiences.

We are booked on this cruise celebrating our 40th anniversary while on the ship 🚢

  5. Hello Neighbor!

I would say go for the Coastal cruise. We did our first one March 2016 and it was a really nice change of pace from Mexico.

It is a cooler weather cruise for sure but being in SF for about 15 hours was great and you have a great view of the Bay Lights on the Bay bridge. Our itinerary was a little different than the one you're thinking of, we went to SF, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Ensenada, so I called it the cruise in our backyard.

Especially since you've never done it before, I would go for it and it can still be quite warm in October.

We are doing the 10 day coastal from Vancouver 2018.

    Any tips?

  6. Any suggestions for hotels before a cruise in Vancouver.Wondering if it's just as easy to book hotel and transfers from the airport and cruise port through princess.

Want to stay 2 nights in Vancouver pre cruise and then will fly to Victoria and home from there.

  7. Alaska is beautiful and so is the Emerald Princess

I was worried when reading other Emerald reviews.

Our last cruise was on Royal Caribbean, The Liberty.

It kind of turned me off cruising, but my hubby enjoys them so we are trying it again next year for our 40th.

I (we) enjoyed Alaska immensely and that was our first cruise ever so I think the coastal cruise with touring is more what I would enjoy.

    And, Larry loves his wine🍷

  8. Thank you for the comments. Have only been on the Sapphire in 2009 and then Liberty of the seas and Freedom of the Seas.

I did not really enjoy the Freedom and wasn't sure if I wanted to cruise again. But, next year is our 40th and my hubby enjoys wine so thought why not try the coastal 10 day cruise with California in the itinerary and go from Vancouver which means we will go to Victoria as well to visit our son.

And this cruise is actually when we celebrate our anniversary.

  9. I just got off Emerald today; 16 Jul; I will be writing a review so watch for it. This is my first cruise with Princess line; and I have nothing but 5 stars for the entire trip; the ship; the crew; the cabin, the excursions. etc. so stay tuned

Perfect, thank you. Can't wait to read it.

I know food is a touchy subject but wondering your thoughts on the meals.
