  1. Hi, guys, Mitsugirly. I found this thread when I decided to get hotel suggestions for our pre-cruise night. I forgot you were sailing on the Dawn soon, Kim. Keep her safe for us!

Carol, so you are recommending the Best Western Adams for one night pre-cruise? I like the fact they have shuttles both from the airport and to the cruise port. We leave 9/25, and there will be three couples. I'm totally unfamiliar with Boston, just starting my search, and was surprised to find a recommendation on the first thread I read! Almost is too easy!

Any thought on must-do restaruants nearby there for the night before the cruise? Thanks in advance.

  2. I have been on both, and twice to Alaska on the Pearl.

I agree that itinerary should be the first determining factor, as I think everyone should visit Glacier Bay at least once.

Other than that, I would vote for the Pearl, as she has what I consider the best spa in the fleet. But if they don't intend to use the spa, I'd go with strictly itinerary.

They'll have a great time on either ship.

  3. Just back from Sun today. The aft suites now have the small Lavazza . Would guess all suites would have them. Nothing fancy but a great improvement from the four cupper we had in Nov. Coffee was very good.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you are so lucky! There was not one when we sailed in the aft suite in November! Glad to hear they have made the change; we sorely missed it!

  4. Am I the only one that loves to read entertaining reviews where everything is horrible? And I don't say that to be funny or sarcastic....I just love reading them.

There is another one put up today "where do I start....we were never given a wash cloth in our cabin and had to use a towel." OMG now THAT is a tragedy of epic proportions. But the best part was the irony part about smoking. The writer stated he/she printed out NCL's smoking policy and took it with them on the ship. They complained the cleaning crew used some sort of cleaner that aggravated their throats. But when their cabin attendant told them they were not allowed to smoke on the balcony it was the final straw.

Hmmmmm..... you worry about a cleaning product smell bothering your throat? What about the cigarettes you are smoking on your balcony? You don't think those are much worse for your throat and health than the fragrance from the bathroom cleaner?

I just get a kick out of the lousy reasons to hate a cruise. When you have to stoop to the hard carpet and cleaning smell....... Its so funny! :)

I'm with you, David; I love reading something to make me laugh during my lunchtime perusal of the boards! :D

  5. Hey, Mitsugirly! Just getting a chance to get on board with your review. Tried following along a few days during lunch last week, but only get (choose to take) a half hour, and have to eat, too, so didn't get very far.

But we're driving down to Las Vegas today so I have a few hours to play catch-up.

So you liked some things about the Sky better than the Sun? Can't wait to hear about it.

Now to get back to it, I think I just got to the day we got to Roatan.

  6. Hey, Mitsugirly! Finally ready to join in with your review. Tried reading some during lunch a couple of days at work, but only get a half hour, and have to eat, too.

We're driving down to Las Vegas today, so I have a few hours to catch up. Can't wait to hear about the Sky, to see what she is like compared to the Sun. So she had some things you liked better, huh? Anxious to read all about it.

  7. I was on the same cruise as pnerissa.

There was a Chef's Table being promoted, but since we did not go, I don't know what night it was offered.

I liked the first comedian, but he got off in Cozumel and they brought another one on board, and I did not like him or the ventriloquist. Loved the Rock one, can't remember the whole name, but it was really great.

I think the karaoke is every night, if there are interested people there to participate.

Didn't have kids participating in the Splash program, so can't answer that, either.

They don't call it BAGS program anymore, but I did see in the daily that you could sign up for transportation to the airport. Check the dailies!

  8. i think people are nosy no matter where you are on the ship, but at least at the aft balcony, you only have the cabins beside you to worry about their nosiness....rather than the bow-cams, and the entire length of the ship.

    :p:p:p:p

    .

    hahahaha

  9. When I had dinner with the F & B director of the Sun on my cruise the very end of September the goal was to have the new menus out for the MDR around the 1st of November. He said it had been pushed back from the original 1st of October date. So it wasn't a firm date but they are changing.

Oh, I do hope so, as I will be on her in 7 days, and have been looking forward to some of those new menu items.

  10. We had some friends in a forward suite on the Jewel's sister ship, the Pearl, and I've been in the aft suite on the Jewel. I didn't like the forward suite as much, as there is a large picture window, then a bulkhead door to go out onto the deck. Felt more closed in. The balcony was larger, but it rained so they had limited usage of it then, not to mention the wind and having to keep exterior lights off and curtains closed at night so the bridge did not have light coming up to them after dark.

In the aft, our balcony was covered enough that we could be out on it during rain and stay dry, but granted we didn't go out there for sitting during the rain, just to look out and/or take pictures. It seemed more open and light since the large sliding-glass door was across most of the back.

I've never experienced ashes/soot that some people have talked about on occasion, and you aren't subject to people from Great Outdoors throwing things down on you if you are on the second deck down rather the uppermost deck of aft cabins. We did experience the wonderful smells from the bakery that would waft up from below in the evenings; it would often instigate a trip to the buffet to get some cookies for a late-night snack!

I'd pick aft over forward every time, JMHO.

    Good luck with your choice.

One must apply for their first pp in person. Did she actually go to the office without her bc?

I do not think this is true in the US. I did not apply in person.

My DH and I applied for our passports via the on-line-downloadable documents and then sent them in, too.
