  1. My wife and I are going to be on a Crystal Serenity cruise which leaves in May from Rome. We are considering staying at the Rose Garden Palace in Rome. We are not familiar with Rome, but we decided on the Rose Garden Palace, because that hotel is a hotel that Crystal has listed as one of two hotels that they recommend for their guests to stay at. We are basing our staying at the Rose Garden Palace, because we assume that a hotel that Crystal recommends that their guests stay at will be a very good hotel. I do note that TripAdvisor seems to give the hotel mixed reviews. I was wondering if any persons on this forum know anything about this hotel or know people who have stayed at the Rose Garden Palace. I would appreciate any opinions on this hotel.

  2. Look, I'm running a business too. And I have a cancellation policy as well. NO REFUNDS. But I'm making exceptions when necessary. A little compassion can actually greatly benefit the business, not hurt it. I know it does in my business. I know that if Oceania made an exception and allow us to reschedule (even for a small extra fee), I would become their customer for life.

Believe me, nobody wants to cancel on purpose or "game the system". Most people who book a cruise want to go - unless unexpected happens.

Hotels allow cancellations in most cases. Airlines allow you to rebook in many cases for an extra fee. Why it is different with cruise lines?

Plus 1. I agree completely. Very insightful and well written post.

  3. I emailed Mike Moore about this on August 6th because the Singles Offers used to say what the price would be.

    His response was

It does appear that the website isn't properly calculating he single supplement rate. I'll advise the team, but I'm not sure how quickly the issue will be resolved, so unfortunately you'll have to contact our call center or your travel agent for quotes.

I emailed him again a month later and he said they were still working on it

Thank you, but the problem is that it does not even show the single rate much less compute it.

  4. as I said above

clicked on the cruise then click on see all offers

Find the cruise you are interested in then under the banner that says

"Ask about cruise only pricing "

you will see a link "view all offers'

in the panel for the SS it has the percentage 25% or 50%

LHT, I clicked on both the links that you posted. I found no panels or anything else that said "SS" or single supplement percent or percentage.

  5. Do you mean a dollar value ??

I suppose you could go through the booking process up to the payment stage ...not really sure if that would work

Thank you LHT. I meant percent not dollar amount. Like is the single supplement percent for a particular cruise twenty percent or fifty percent. It only states on the Oceania website that there is a single supplement. It does not state what that single supplement percent is for that cruise or any cruise for that matter. Hope this clarifies my question.

  6. Thank you. ORV and LHT. Also, is it possible to find the single supplement percent on the Oceania website? For example, if the single supplement is 25 per cent or 50 percent or whatever. It doesn't right that we would have to call Oceania to find out what the percent is, does it? I notice that Crystal states on their website what the single supplement is for each of their cruises.

  7. I notice that Oceania Cruises has some cruises that have a single supplement. I tried to find those online and could not find them. I called Oceania yesterday and the agent told me that you have to go to Oceania's home page to find the single supplement and then click it and it will bring up all the Oceania Cruises with the single supplements. I did so and up came a bunch of Oceania Cruises with single supplements. I saw several that I was interested in, but NOWHERE did it tell me what the single supplement is. I called Oceania back and talked to a different agent yesterday, and he stated that they are not shown online and you have to call us. Is he correct?

He also stated the single supplement for the cruise that I am interested is 50 percent. My next question is this: If I want to compute the single supplement and it is 50 percent. If it states the the rate per person double occupancy is 2900 dollars per person. For one person in that room what would the cost be for one person, and how would I compute it?

  8. My brother is currently on Oceania Sierna with low expectations after reading the reviews. This is his first Oceania cruise. He just sent me an e-mail. He stated the food on Sierna better than on Crystal. He has cruised numerous times on Crystal and Regent. Also, he states coffee on Sierna better than on Crystal. Good entertainment on Sierna. He states better than expected he states maybe because cruise is transatlantic. Sierna has best and most comfortable library of any cruise ship he has been on. Service he says is very good though not quite as personable as Crystal. His room especially the bathroom is much smaller than Crystal. He states Sierna may now be his favorite cruise ship. There you have it.

  9. If it were me, I would not insure a trip that was priced at 5k. My chase sapphire card covers that.

I would get medical and evacuation insurance regardless. Usually less than $100 pp.

I just had $100,000 in medical expenses because I fell! Needed a helicopter and then a medjet. Two surgeries. A travel nurse and a $7k flight home.

And I am a very healthy fit person. Had been trekking but fell in a temple. You never know.

I thought that there was no charge for the patient to be transported from the ship to the closest hospital by helicopter. Is that right?

Did MedJet Assist pay for your flight home? If so, did you have any problems with them? I notice that most of the people that post state that they have them for peace of mind, but that they personally have never had to use them. If you have used them what recommendation would you give them?

  11. I’ve done a search but cannot find any recent substantive discussions of Exclusive Excursions. The only thing I’ve learned is that the tour group is smaller. Is there anything other than size that sets them apart from the standard or Oceania Choice excursions? The descriptions of the tours, where both categories are offered, are virtually identical. I did a small group tour of Florence last October on another cruise line and it offered a more in-depth visit to the sites as well as a gourmet-type lunch rather than the standard bus tour group lunch. Are the Exclusive Excursions similarly enhanced?

I am well aware of the advantages of DIY tours, but my question here is focused on the Oceania tours. I’m on the Feb. 4 Nautica Singapore to Hong Kong.

    Thanks.

Excellent question! I am wondering the same thing. Does anyone have any answers?

  12. I am posting this question on this forum because Oceania is closed today-and our final payment is due June 1. I decided to check and see on Oceania's website, if there has been a price drop. When I login and go through the Oceania website I put in the cabin category, then, options, then finally I get to the Review page-just before the page that states guest information and payment. The review page at the bottom has the word total with the total amount.

It does not state if the total includes taxes and or port fees. Does anyone know if it does?

  13. You couldn't buy more than one at a time?

I like ships where washed and folded laundry is included. Happened on the Mekong, but it was limited to 7 pieces per person in 7 days.

I don't remember whether you could or not . However, I don't think that there were any refunds if you did had any tokens left over.

  14. Does Crystal have included laundry?

ORV, yes the washers and dryers are free. Also, they are open 24 hours and day. In addition, I almost always saw available washers and dryers-no matter what time of day or night I went in to use them.

  15. Oh, I'm sorry. You're right. The washers and dryers aren't free, just the irons. It's pretty inexpensive, though - certainly better than paying for the cruise line to do your laundry!

They are inexpensive as you say. However, I don't like hassles-and I did not like having to constantly go to reception to buy those tokens to put in those washers and dryers. To me there is simply to much nickle and diming with Oceania-which is one reason why my wife and I have to decided to cruise with the true luxury cruise lines-like Crystal. But hey, to each his own. :)

PS: I will give Oceania credit where credit is due, and in my humble opinion the food on Oceania was excellent. However, for us the excellent food did not outweigh, (in my opinion) the mediocre service and the nickel and diming.

  16. Sorry, I spelled Seabourn incorrectly! Also, just for the record, Oceania has free laundry rooms too.

Is the free usage of the washers and dryers on Oceania a recent change? The last time I cruised on Oceania Rivera, they charged for the usage of their washers and dryers.
