  1. I followed that previous thread and read the research results. The Purell product was VF481 Instant Hand Sanitizer. It is available from Amazon.com, but is mostly in large, industrial-sized containers to be used in the machines like those on the Princess ships, or in large lots of 2-oz pocket-sized bottles. Therefore very expensive.

I wonder which Purell product the ships use. Anybody know?

    Howard

Good old soap and water is the best. No need to purchase industrial size Purell.

  2. This is probably unusual (giving a black card to a non-Elite.) I became Elite on day #2 of a 15-day cruise and no matter how much I joked or begged for my black card, I was turned down. The website clearly says "after" a completed cruise. That said, there are no events or perks the non-Elite booked in the cabin can't attend or take advantage of. With laundry, just have the Elite member sign the slip.

Except the wine tasting. They would have to pay for that.

  3. Please see my comments in red.

If you use a large online TA they will probably not check rates for you or keep on top of your booking. It will be up to you to stay on top of it and call them. They don't really care and are too large with too many clients to watch each booking closely. Many also charge a fee to change your booking. If you use an individual TA they are more likely watch prices for you. They are also notified of sales in advance so have a heads up. You will get more personal service and they will do all the work.

It is true, if you book through a TA, Princess won't talk to you and you must go through your TA but either way it is a phone call whether to a individual TA or a Princess TA.

  4. I,m sure you would have found it more aggravating to be confined in your room for 3 days just be glad they took the measures they do to prevent the spread and taking about aggravating I overheard the person in front of me refuse to sanitize their hands stating they had just washed their hands just before coming to buffet well let me tell you if ever I hear someone say that again I will turn into one of those arrogant cruisers that customer service has to deal with and hasn,t got a chance on hell of pleasing

I will give it right back and tell them what selfish and ignorant people they are and take a course on infection control

and so many wonder why we get noro on ships

The sanitizer does nothing to prevent the noro virus. Soap and water is the best thing.

  5. Just back from last weeks cruise on Oasis.

We also stayed in the Hyatt Place 17th Convention Center, it was great.

Free Airport transfer, Good Breakfast and the port transfer for $7.

The good thing is it's only a stone's throw from the port.

Stones throw as in walking distance if you choose?

  6. Looking at a partial canal cruise. What is everyone's opinion of either a bumped out balcony on the Aloha, Baja or Caribbe, vs a Dolphin or Emerald balcony. I would like to be able to look out and not have my view blocked by a bumped out balcony so that is why I am thinking of these cabins. I don't mind the sun. On other ships I prefer the Caribbe balconies due to the larger size and being half covered an half not covered. It has been a while since I was on the Island and can't recall the ship layout. I know we had a balcony on the Emerald deck and it seemed just fine.

  7. Just did a B2B. We booked as two separate cruises with two booking numbers. As was explained to us, if you are staying in the same cabin you use the same card. You do need to get off the ship for the zero count as someone else explained. We did choose to get a new card for my DH since he became Elite after the first let.

  8. So maybe something new? Cause they were on our platters. Here is a pic of one (look at 3pm). The whole trip every time you bought drinks at happy hour you would get a ticket for a raffle.

There was happy hours all day at different bars last one was skywalkers lounge from 11 to midnight

Thanks for the tip. Just curious, what ship, when and how long was your cruise.

  9. Hummm, don't know. Can you truly ground an outlet on a ship?

The ship I am sure has a surge protector, of sorts, to protect their equipment and TVs, etc.

Maybe we will have an electrician answer.

Per my electrician husband you can truly ground an outlet on a ship. If it is a three prong outlet it is grounded to the generator source, which is the source of electricity. I have no idea what all that means but I am quoting my DH and he knows.

  10. With just two people I agree. We are flying down in a couple of weeks vs. driving because we did the math and it comes out cheaper when you factor in gas and parking. You can stay at one of those hotels that have free parking but then you have to factor in hotel costs. If we have a carload of kids it is not worth it to fly but with just two I think it is. Also look at Jet Blue. They have some great prices and are closer to the port.

  11. I was quite surprised to see that they gave us the obc for the two three days... I will take it :)

I know, makes the cruise very affordable. We are doing Nov 7 and Nov 10 and get $200 OBC for each cruise. I don't think it is refundable, or so they said, so it will be fun to spend $200 in three days and $200 more in four days.

  12. Seems like there is some confusion here. The Three for Free sale is for cruises to Alaska, Europe or Japan in 2015. The great prices on these California 3 and 4 day getaways is Princess's Endless Summer Sale. They very clearly state the OBC is per stateroom and applies to guests 1 and 2 only, however I just did a dummy booking and it does show $300 OBC.
