I'm sorry that this happened to you and let's face it, conflict like that right then and there with the Dad feels horrible. When we were on the Apex last year there was a family that brought their maybe 4-5 year old to the hot tub every day outside of posted family hours. Someone said something to them while they were in the hot tub and they just blew it off. I felt like the biggest grump because this little boy liked to splash and wanted to talk to all of us while we were trying to have adult conversations. I felt so old, crabby and annoyed!

Enjoying your report! Thanks so much for sharing your vacation and can't wait to see your Royal Suite photos!

We’re booked in one on the Beyond on the 9th deck next year. If I had to choose between 6 and 12 I would choose the 6th due to the “teeth” of the MC protruding below it when it’s parked above the 12th deck. Photos show the prongs and I think I wouldn’t be able to unsee them.

This is not new. It’s been in place since at least early fall. Does not make a difference if you’re booked in the retreat. Everyone who books specialty dining pays the gratuity.Thanks. I had booked that first Eden reservation prior to the fall, I suppose why it wasn't included in the previous reservation.

Interesting change to making reservations for specialty dining ahead of time. I had booked us in Eden on our Beyond cruise for Feb 2024 and realized our reservation was for the same night as the Super Bowl. We'll enjoy participating in whatever is going on for Super Bowl so wanted to switch nights. Changed the reservation for another night and a gratuity charge of 18% was added to our new reservation. ($140 for 2 of us as opposed to $120). I'm sure that when we booked our cruise in the Retreat that gratuities were included. Will have to find our paperwork. I'm not going to complain over $20 but I did find it a little strange.

I suggest purchasing the weekly pass as soon as you see them online. They disappear without warning and aren’t available on board. I’m kicking myself for not getting them for our last Apex cruise. We’re booked for a 10 day on Beyond in Feb 2024, I’m already stalking the site.

On Beyond $466 (Canadian) for 10 days.
How far in advance were you able to purchase?
-
We paid the $200 deposit and had 90 days to book. Within 2 weeks of getting home we chose a 10 night Southern Caribbean in a sky suite. We were able to book w/$200 deposit (normally $900 for a 10 night cruise in suite) and received an extra $300 OBC. The same room has gone up by $3,000. We’re so glad we opted to give on board booking a try!

This thread is reminding me to get business like cards w/our personal info to share while traveling. I'm a realtor and have business cards but I think personal cards are a great way to stay connected.

What type of things would we use it for during the cruise? On Millennium in May.
You'll be able to see the daily planner on the app. You can add shows and other events to your day and you'll get a reminder about 30 minutes prior that you have an event coming up. You can message each other through the app as well. It was fantastic!

Are there a lot of kids on this sailing? (I know it is spring break in some areas).
I’m guessing 10-15. It’s funny though when we’ve talked to the parents of some of the kids and asked how they’re enjoying their cruise the common comment is that it’s “boring”. I think most of them are a case of not really knowing what Celebrity is about beforehand.

Why don’t you speak to a member of staff? Not much that your fellow CC posters can do.
Not asking anyone to “do” anything. Just sharing that the policy surprised me.

The captain has the ability to open the solarium to children for limited hours a day when the weather is bad. When this happened, it is published in the daily program. It sounds like these parents have made up their own rules. The pool attendants will not enforce the rules. You need to get an officer involved.
An officer stopped by with the 3 yr old in the hot tub and reminded the parents that it wasn’t good to exceed 15 minutes in the hot tub for the toddler. This was during normal prime time pool time not a designated “family” hour at the solarium. The hot tub was crowded with adults at that point, maybe his attempt at adults only at that time.

PS: I just read on other threads the Solarium is open to families on some ships from 4pm to 7pm and on other ships from 4:30pm to 7:30pm
This wasn’t during those times. It was mid day amongst the busy times.

We are on board the Apex now and having a wonderful time! Something that has surprised me on this cruise has been children swimming in the solarium pool and hot tubs. A 3 yr old in floaties in the pool, boys 7 and 8 “swimming” in between guests and conversations in the hot tub. Mom of the boys said they’re allowed to be in the solarium hot tub but not the solarium pool. I’m assuming this is the case as staff have passed through and not said anything. Go figure! I thought the solarium was strictly an adults area.

I'm wondering if the new message appears as protocols may change on January 15th as the CDC order expires? We sail at the end of February and I'm really curious if there will be changes.

Cancel or Cruise: Cruise
Rebooked or not? Other travel plans:
Comment on why you made the decision (if you want) without bashing anyone who made a different choice: We still have time for Omicron to run it's course and hopefully get back to fall levels that brought almost normalcy. I'm saddened for the crew and company as they've tried so hard to keep things going. We'll plan on going unless Celebrity cancels the cruise. We have a sunset veranda booked and aren't worried about port calls. We've never found excursions to crowded beaches appealing. We prefer to book a week on an outrageously beautiful beach and plop ourselves there to get our beach fix.

Just ordered e-Med tests yesterday. They've shipped and are expected via FedEx tomorrow. Thankful given the shortage of tests available.

They took a chance with getting any possible cabin within the Sunset Veranda category or higher, not being put in a lower category. I mean are you “taking a chance” if you booked a veranda with a cabin number but the cruise line overbooks and decides to put you in an inside cabin? You are aware how the guarantee program works, right?
Celebrity considers an Infinite Veranda (IV) an upgrade from the Sunset Veranda (SV). When I recently booked our Sunset Veranda they asked me if I wanted to upgrade to an Infinite Veranda. Celebrity did not attempt to give them (OP) a lesser cabin. They operated within their upgrade policy.

"Average passenger BMI in general appeared higher than on luxury lines ( which can be an issue on already crowded excursion transport with forced physical closeness, despite Covid)."

You both are going to absolutely love your sunset veranda on the Apex!! We were on the 10th floor last year in a sunset veranda on the Apex and it was absolute perfection! Enjoy!
