  1. I don't know if you can switch to MTD after your cruise has started. They require you to prepay your tips for MTD as well so I don't know how that would work.

As the others have mentioned, just let someone know you want to switch tables after the first night. We did this once and felt terrible about it, but honestly, it was the best choice we made.

Usually the head waiter will make an appearance the first night. I was able to simply give him a knowing eye and he found us after dinner. They are so prepared for these situations!

  2. I believe the e-cig's have the same restrictions as a regular cigarette.

If they don't have a smell, they could get away with it on their balcony.

I AM NOT SAYING THEY SHOULD, just saying they could.

I know nothing about e-cigs, btw.

Either that or maybe get some nicotine patches for cravings when you don't want to leave the balcony?

  3. It is super early to be asking! The season has just started. Has it even been a month yet? We went at the end of May and we did not get close because of all the ice. We could see the glacier, but it was far away.

  4. Yep! A large hotel chain is going to build a monster smack in the middle. Understand other brands, bars and restaurants will jump on the bandwagon. One is told it is called progress.

I thought I remember there being houses up there though? I wonder if this means we'll never have access to that beach now?

  5. Take a taxi to Cable Beach. Not many go there, as most of the ship just add to the congestion of Paradise Island. Cable Beach has plenty of space to spread out with facilities at hotels is you wish.

Do it this year as next year Cable will vanish under investors bulldozers (building more hotels etc).;)

Are you serious? No more private little side beach? We're talking about the beach just east of the major hotels? :( :( :( There really isn't much room between the road and that beach....surely there isn't enough room for a hotel?

To the OP, check the excursions that Royal offers. Last time we were in Nassau, we did a historical tour. It would have been too far for us to walk and it was good for the price. You get driven around in a air conditioned little bus with comfortable seating. They do stop and try to get you to buy at local shops (which was not stated in the description), but you don't have to buy anything. I'm sure since you've been to Nassau before, that you understand that part of the push-to-buy culture. The tour though could provide a nice history lesson!

There's the flea market (which is an experience in itself, both good and bad, lol) and there are restaurants with real local food just down past the market and past the little beach that is popular near the cruise ships.

  6. I agree that if you know you're not going to eat in the MDR, let the staff know so they can move people around who need it or so they can get dinner started as soon as the remaining guests arrive.

But as far as not wanting the other people to feel slighted, that sounds like their issue. Why is sitting at a table with empty seats 'embarrassing'? It's not a reflection on you if they never show up. (Or maybe it is...?)

This isn't high school. No one is looking at you thinking 'loser' because you're sitting alone.

There are people who expect others to handle or behave in every situation in the same way that they would and when that doesn't happen, they label the people 'rude' or 'mean' or 'don't have any manners' when in fact, they're just DIFFERENT.

    I agree.

I think these boards warp some people. If you were never on the boards, would you even consider going to tell someone you're not eating in the dining room? Heck no. You'd just go to your other dining venue. I don't know about you guys, but I'm very conscious about the needs of others, but when I'm on vacation, I'm focussed on what I'm doing - not focussing on how I can make my vacation better for someone else.

That doesn't make me rude or self centered. I'm just minding my own business and enjoying my vacation.
