We're booked on a cruise in September as well.  We will be in Rome for a few days first so we were planning to take the train to Ravenna (I think it goes through Bologna), my only concern is trying to get a taxi at Ravenna on a day where there is a ship turnover. Especially as we will probably need 3 taxis.  I will look into the coach transfer from Bologna as that may be easier.

Try looking into a private transfer service.  There are 6 of us doing an RCCL cruise and booked a transfer from our hotel in Bologna to the ship in Ravenna.

  2. Next Spring we are on a cruise that leaves out of Rotterdam.  It will be Tulip time and the Keukenhof gardens will be open.  Should we stay in Amsterdam or Rotterdam?   Will stay in Rotterdam on the night pre-cruise departure but which is the best spot to stay to visit the gardens.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. We originally thought we would fly into Bologna and out of Venice.  After reading info about Ravenna I am not sure 3 nights isn't too long.  Plan to visit Venice after the cruise for 3 or 4 nights but everything is adjustable if 3 nights in Ravenna is too long.  Will check out the NH Ravenna -  thanks!!

  4. Multi generation family travelling on a 14 day cruise out of Venice (Ravenna) next June.  Original plan was to fly into Bologna - transfer to Ravenna for 3 nights then board the ship.  After hours of reading on here - I'm not sure that is the best way to go.  Is 3 nights in Ravenna too long?   Should we do a couple in Bologna and one pre-cruise in Ravenna (to see mosaics and the beach) or go into Venice and stay there (original plan was to see Venice after the cruise)   We have a "stress" traveller and one over 83 will arrange private airport transfers - just keeps it simple.  Also hotel suggestions for Ravenna would be appreciated.

    Thanks so much everyone!!

Maybe you will get lucky.  Here is how, sign into your flight as early as allowed.  Some international flights can be signed into up to 48 hours early.  Immediately after signing in check the app and check it often.  You may be given an offer to postpone your flight.  I have been offered up to $1500 on all of my domestic flights this summer.  There is a bidding process, it will give you values to bid.  The deal is you get the $1500 flight credit and your rebooked flight at no additional cost to you.  $1500 should be enough to enjoy a day In Amsterdam.  It is a travel credit, I don’t know the terms of the credit.  You could check your airline website for details.

Just curious as to which airline you were flying...

  6. Am thinking about booking a 3 night dining package on our upcoming cruise but I read somewhere that staff were continually wandering around offering specialty dining at 50% off during the cruise.  Pre-cruise dining package is 30% off so if they are offering 50% off on the ship I will wait.  Has anyone recently returned or is on a ship that can offer some help.

    Thanks   Marg

I've been to the Yukon and to every Canadian province.  Canada is a cold, cold country.  Some places are just colder than others.  (Try Haines Junction in the Yukon in mid-December.)

Not all of Canada is a cold, cold country.  You live close enough to us to know Bainbridge weather is almost the same as Vancouver and Victoria.  Just as an aside - for years Victoria never owned any snow removal equipment.  They almost never get snow.

  8. I am totally the same way - we usually do a test run the day before something to make sure we know where we are going.   Get him to send you directions explaining exactly where he is.  We took a cab there (to make sure we didn't get lost) and then it is easy to walk back.  I would walk into Cabo from the tender dock and then grab a cab or Uber from there.  It is just off the Blvd. Constituyentes and Camino Viejo A San Jose.  You could also use google maps and put in his address - give yourself an hour or so to get there.  It is really a non-descript place - if your early there is a restaurant there (in a shipping container) that serves amazing food and coffee.  The name of it is NIKTE.  Don't judge the food by the building!!  ps - the beach we found is not easy to walk on - very soft sand that you sink into with each step and it is a fair ways down the beach. - we found side streets easier to walk on.    Let me know if you need more help.   Marg

  9. That was an original disappointment for me also but truly I had (almost)as much fun watching my husband take off and land - it truly is worth it - was SUCH fun!!  There is a little restaurant there also that looks like nothing but don't judge the book by what you see.  The food was amazing and the chef is such a wonderful person.  Everything is cooked from scratch when you order so it takes time - but absolutely worth it and more affordable than a ot of Cabo.

  10. We just got back from 3 weeks in Cabo and did a totally different excursion.  There is a company called Cabo Sky Tours.  It is a motorized Hang-glider.  Ernesto (owner) is the pilot and he has a variety of tours.  Depending on your tour time he flies you over the arch, over humpback whales (yes you can see way down into the ocean) sea turtles, up the coast on both sides of the peninsula so you can see the resorts and amazing homes.  We "raced" a whale watching zodiac and flew over the sand - just feet off a totally empty beach.  I was amazed at how smooth the ride was - (like being in a motorcycle with no windshield) when we landed it was so smooth I wasn't sure we were on the ground.  You are seat-belted in with eye protection and ear protectors.  The view is amazing!!  Of all my vacation excursions this has to be my hands down favorite.  Google Cabo Sky Tours and have a look at the web site.  You do have to make a reservation.  Give it a go - you will not regret it.

  11. Don't do it! You will catch the Tahitian flu and be compelled to return time and time again. It will ruin future experiences to other exotic locales that will never measure up to the FP experience. Plus, the people are just too darn nice. As a favor to you, since you have already paid, we will go in your place and suffer through it for the fourth time. Bon voyage and remember that you were forewarned!

I totally agree with you. We visited 35 years ago and have been dying to return. Just booked a 28 night on HA from Papette to Auckland. Can't wait!!!
