We are cruising on RCCL and spending the day in Ponce - looking for information on it.
Can anyone help??

Remember there are less than 200 passengers on the River Boat. Nothing like Ocean Cruises with thousands. Sailed Avalon Expression cabin 205 (check ship layout) and the only noise was from passengers passing door while talking. May have more demand for your cat. cabins so since you are booked, they are offering you upgrade to the more $$$$ cabin. Talk to TA and ask his advice. On our river cruise, most passengers turned in early and up early for breakfast /excursions (much different than ocean cruising). Have a Great Cruise:)
Just got off the Illumination and I say GRAB the upgrade.

We just came home and yes, you have time to wander around - you are docked within a 10 min. walk of the central train station.

We leave tomorrow for Budapest for the Illumination - our trip from Budapest to Amsterdam on the 26th of May - will take any and all last minute tips you might share.

Thanks so much for the info - we leave in 3 days for Budapest - Amsterdam trip on Avalon. Our first river cruise and your packing (clothing) info was perfect. Took out my husband's tie (he's thrilled!!) We have 2 waterproof jackets packed so we are good in that department. Thanks again.

Thanks Jake
exactly the info I was looking for. Since you just got off - any pointers you can pass along?

We are taking our first river cruise (/avalon Illumination) and I am wondering how the temperatures inside the ships are - eg: is the dining room on the cool or warm side. We usually take ocean cruises and the temps. inside the ships vary greatly - will help greatly with what I pack.
Thanks Marg

We just returned (July 11) from our Avalon Budapest to Prague trip. We arrived to our hotel, the Corinithia at around noonish. As our room was not ready, we went for lunch & were in our room by 1:45 PM. We took it easy the 1st day as we had a long flight into Budapest from Vancouver, BC.
On the 2nd day, we had an inclusive city tour of Budapest in a comfortable A/C coach with stops at the Fishermens' Bastion & Heroes' Square. This tour was about 3 hours. Upon return to the hotel, we freshened up & took a cab (2000 Ft or Hungarian $) down to the Central Market. Get the front desk to get you the cab. We could also have taken tram 6 which stops in front of our hotel, but then you have to transfer to tram 2, to reach the market. The ticket cost 350 Ft/person/tram, which would have been 1400 Ft vs 2000 Ft for a direct A/C no fuss ride to the market. You can easily spend a couple of hours at this market. If you are into farmer type markets, this is for you. On the 2nd floor of this market, you're in luck if you're a foodie, as there's a lot of kiosks selling street type food.
You can easily walk & munch your way to the Chain Bridge from the market. We meandered back to the Corinthia Hotel in about 45 minutes.
On embarkation day, we had to check out of the hotel by 11 AM. Our transfer to the ship was at 3:30 PM. You can leave your luggage at the hotel, wander around, take a HOHO bus, have lunch or take an included lunch excursion, as in our case, by Avalon & get dropped off at the ship at 4 PM.
In any event have a great time.
We are also from Vancouver BC and have just booked our 1st Avalon cruise - would love to hear more about yours and how was the hotel? Was it centrally located to everything?

Do they always use the same hotel in Bucharest? Can you tell me what the name of it was -

We are looking at Avalon for our first river cruise - what was the men's dress code for dinner? Do we need to pack a sportsjacket ( hubby hopes not) Thanks for the info

This has changed a bit; there are some rentals available from the Bikini Tiki Hut, as well as drinks and food. The hut is currently the #1 rated attraction in all of Nassau on a certain well-known travel website. It's not a great beach, but it was a lot better than we were expecting, it's a short walk from the pier and it's relatively cheap.
Like the sounds of walking there - if you come off the pier which way do you turn? I am guessing the walk is less then 30 minutes?

We just got off the Indy and spent 2 weeks in the aft cabin 6720 - the balcony was HUGE - a good 10 feet larger than the same cabin on the 7th floor. A good portion of it was under cover (good protection in case of rain). View was wonderful ( yes we did have a small issue with soot) but to me the view more than makes up for the inconvenience of soot. We had 2 lounges, 2 chairs and a small table (was still tons of leftover room) I have included a couple of pics to give you an idea of size.

Thanks so much for the info.

we are doing a B2B and have the day in Fort Lauderdale - we were thinking of spending it enjoying the water taxi ride then stopping for lunch somewhere - can you tell me where the closest water taxi stop is and can we walk there from the ship or do we have to take a cab. Thanks for the help

Am looking for pictures of 9727 both inside and what you see from the balcony.
Thanks for the help

Denise - were there any good beaches close to where the ship is or are there an abundance of taxi's to take you to one.
