  1. We were on the Sapphire 4 day last week, and we had two drink tickets in our cabin. We are both Elite, and we were in a suite, so I can't say if that was why we got two or not. The catch to them is you can only use them in the Platinum, Elite, Suite evening reception which on this ship was in Skywalkers, and was open from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Since we had early seating Traditional dining, we were unable to go there at that time. Oh well, we did not go thirsty, I can tell you.

  2. While Princess may serve lots of fish, do not expect it to be fresh, local fish. It will be the same old frozen stuff you get on any other cruise. Now, I am a very big Princess fan, and have sailed Alaska a number of times on her, but when you get off the ship in a port and see boats unloading fish nearby, you immediately think you might just get some for dinner that night. Not so, as the cruise lines do not stock in ports in Alaska. Your fish on board will be frozen and loaded in Seattle or Vancouver, depending on where you board.

HAL also did not offer any fresh local fish when we sailed on them one time.

I have only experienced fresh Alaska fish (salmon) on one cruise line, and it is not on your list. Your best bet is to plan to eat somewhere in port. That's what we do. . .

  3. Like ptiprof when I printed all my documents I did not find anywhere to order luggage tags. I did it right after final payment, so I was printing everything early. I talked to my TA about the luggage tags, and he said he would take care of it for me. Then I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally I went back in, closer to cruise time and low and behold, there was the place to order luggage tags. I did so, and then waited some more. It took 3 weeks for me to get them, in California. But they did come and now I'm ready to go.

I think there was a period where there was a glitch on the website (but that never happens, does it?) and when they got it fixed I could then order.

Keep checking back, OP, but since you are approaching just a month out, I think I would go ahead and print some myself, just in case. Turns out that's what my TA did for me, as I got them a few days ago.

  4. We have sailed Azamara in the type of suite you mention, as well as a mini suite on Princess. The cabins are very much the same size, with the big difference being the butler and all inclusive on Azamara. You will get no special attention or services on Princess in a mini suite over what you would get in a balcony.

The choice between Mini Suite and Balcony comes down to how much room you really need, both in the cabin and in the bathroom. My choice would be the mini because I like the tub instead of the very small shower, and a place to sit (other than on the bed) while in the cabin. Others see it differently, so it is going to be up to you to make the decision.

  5. I believe the sommeliers have been eliminated fleetwide with my recent wine tasting events being led by headwaiters. As I recall several years ago Princess had multiple sommeliers onboard before eliminating them & later adding only one per ship. It's disappointing that with such a large staff Princess made the decision to once again eliminate the knowledgeable sommeliers. :

While I agree that it would be a shame to eliminate KNOWLEDGEABLE SOMMELIERS, we never found one on board while they were operating on Princess. I much prefer the headwaiters, which we found much more knowledgeable, and less "stuffy" than the "know nothing" sommeliers Princess had on board for a few years. They were not "certified sommeliers" who had completed an extensive training course and testing. They were just people who "thought" they know all about wine.

  6. Last time we sailed out of Vancouver on Princess there was nothing but one line. It is not my favorite place to sail out of, but sometimes you have to do it to get the cruise or ship you want. We will see what happens again this June.

I hope someone else can post with the good news that things have changed, as we have not sailed from there for a couple of years.

  7. We have had flowers and the fruit bowl removed a time or two in the past, but the one that disturbed me the most was when we came back to dinner and found everything that was still in a cabinet or drawer placed on our bed. I know the steward was just trying to help us and make sure we didn't forget anything, but I felt my privacy was invaded.

  8. I don't understand why you are unwilling to let the porters handle your bags for you. We have sailed out of San Pedro many times, and never had a problem with anything, including cases of soda and water. Our bags are always in our cabin by the time we return from the muster drill, and often there before we go.

Things have been different in other ports, and on other cruise lines, but Princess in San Pedro has never been a problem for us.

  9. We are in Kern County, and I got the email - but my husband didn't, and neither did my daughter. Makes you wonder. . . Anyway, we are booked, and will use the credit on our June Alaska cruise. All confirmed by my TA with Princess. He said he is going to try to do one himself. You can't pass up an opportunity like that.

  10. Not really. I request what I want and don't worry about it until I board. Then I check and see if I got what I requested, and if not I go wait in line to see the whoever is handling changes on this particular cruise and make adjustments so I am satisfied. Only one time did I have to sit at a table that I didn't want, and that was the first night. The next day I had an acceptable table assigned for the rest of the cruise.

  11. My husband used the patch and experienced the same things that others have mentioned - dry mouth, vision problems, etc. I would suggest that if you want to try it you do so at home, prior to the cruise. My husband uses Bonine now, and he does take it at bed time every night, starting with the night before we board. I know it comes in two strengths at our pharmacy, so you might try a lower dose. He takes his at bed time each night, starting the night before we board the ship. Again, I would recommend you try it at home, and don't drive until you know how a lower dose might affect you.

Good luck! And enjoy your cruise.

  12. I have been reading reviews of the Royal, searching for a mention of the coffee served on board, without much luck. My TA was on the short cruise to nowhere out of Ft. Lauderdale, and he came back and told me that Princess finally got something right. They served brewed coffee everywhere instead of the dreadful stuff we are used to getting.

Can anyone who has been on her confirm this?

  13. My husband and I have sailed several times with our adult daughter. In the interest of harmony and privacy, she has booked an inside cabin as close to our cabin as possible. We make the larger, outside room - be it mini or full suite - available for her use during the waking hours. When it is time to sleep, we go our separate ways. I take post-its along and when we get up I put one on the outside of our door to let her know we are awake. If we leave the cabin before she gets up in the morning I leave one on her door to let her know where we are having breakfast. It works very well for us.

I should mention that one time we shared a mini-suite. She complained about her father snoring and wasn't too happy. Sleeping with the two of them, I have to say that she did her share of snoring as well, but nothing wakes DH, so he didn't know.

Whatever you do, though, make that Alaska trip! There is nothing to compare with it at all. It's the best. We will be going for the 7th time since 2008 this June, and can't wait to get on the ship once again.

  14. I get mine at Trader Joes, and it comes in a cardboard box - not shrink wrapped. We add tape around it just for a little extra security, and it has never not arrived at our cabin.

It's usually more than I can drink on the cruise unless it's a 14 day or longer but I don't mind leaving what's left on board. It cost me less than two bottles would cost from the ship.

  15. I have enjoyed reading all the stories of those who were successful in getting this promotion applied to their bookings. Congratulations to you all, and I hope you have a happy and safe cruise.

My problem is that it seems that cruises to everywhere in the world except the place I am wanting to book are eligible, and my cruise is not. We are going to book a Hawaii cruise, in the time period covered, but I can't find Hawaii anywhere. Alaska has cruises eligible, but not Hawaii. It certainly makes me sad, but I will probably go ahead and book this first cruise with Celebrity anyway, and hope for a pleasant experience.
