  1. The Peggy’s Cove excursion may be considered by some as a long and/or boring ride with a few stops along the way,   However, we had a wonderful guide who told great stories with heart, enthusiasm and true love of her home of Halifax.  ( including details of the explosion, Titanic rescue/recovery efforts, the citadel etc.) Peggy’s Cove/lighthouse is quite beautiful.  Snacks, ice cream, souvenirs are all available in this lovely little area. Colorful Adirondack chairs are perched on the rocks facing the sea and lighthouse for pleasant relaxing/viewing.

  2. Check out the Titanic gravesite area at the lovely Lawnview Cemetery …a short taxi ride from the port. ( Our driver was very informative and waited for the short time we visited the site.) It is a peaceful, nicely designed area to honor those who perished.  Follow up at the museum along the waterfront ( boardwalk).
We had time to visit the cemetery, before taking the ship’s tour to scenic Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, and then stroll the boardwalk . (Did not get to the museum.)

  3. I just read that you will be in Boston in August.   Hopefully not hot and humid, but be prepared!

Enjoy Boston from every angle. Enjoy Salem however you get there!

And a heads up for anyone reading this who might be considering Salem during Halloween week(s)….don’t!  It’s always mega crowded. Last October, the traffic was record-breaking and admittance to the town was stopped at some point!

  4. Looking to book shore excursions … “ manage me cruise”

The lists on the web site when I log in  for my cruise seem to show more than those listed on the app for my cruise in November.

Perhaps using the app too far ahead of my cruise?

  5. After many cruises I have learned to streamline my packing with travel size toiletries and mix-match outfits.  With the fees for checking luggage, I prefer to roll and jam stuff in a carry on then send clothes out for PRESS ONLY once unpacked… less $$ than checking luggage and less packing stress. Wash and fold services can be cheaper than checking luggage also.

I don’t mind hand washing and hanging to dry overnight.  If not completely dry, I hang inside the closet until the cabin cleaning is done so not in the stewards way. Washing undies or a shirt while taking a shower is multitasking. 😉

Safety issues with a self-serve laundry:  overloading, over detergent, hot irons (yes, even auto shutoff), lint traps….

  6. This will be out first cruise on the Explorer of the Seas. (Alway's sailed / preferred smaller Royal ships…D+ finally 👏)

Looking forward to the shows at the ice skating rink… assuming there are some. Do I need to book a showtime for any performance?  I guess the same question can apply to any shows on the Explorer??

  7. Tho we would likely add to them once on board, we have already prepaid gratuities with our booking, and included HIA.
Are gratuities included in the Pinnacle and Canaletto restaurants with HIA?
