  1. Thanks for the tip about the 5th floor. That will come in extra handy since our family(2 rooms) is on the 6th! We are sailing her Dec 9th for a Journey cruise. I've read the reviews, both good and bad, and figure 'Eh :cool:we'll see.' If its good great, if it's not it is a port heavy cruise we'll make the best of it.

  2. I see the Sunshine getting beat up in some reviews. That would explain the tremendous deal we were offered by our PVP for one of the Journeys sailings. Worst case scenario we will see some warm weather in Dec. Thanks for all the info and I'm glad the OP was able to have a good time despite a few issues. I like their attitude!

    :D

  3. Hey all,

Jumping back in here. I have been following the program pretty well until this weekend. It was my son's and my birthday. So two meals with birthday cake and on my birthday I made my favorite food--Shrimp and grits with greens. Big time carbs, big time fat content but big time yummy, definitely a once in a while treat anyway.

So Monday I was up 2 lbs for the weekend.

My mom is staying with us thru the end of the year. She just got out of the hospital with an acute COPD episode and is on full time o2 and lots of meds. She is 5'3" and weighs (get this) 99lbs. So her dr wants her to gain weight.

So I make her carb laden meals. Whole grain cream of wheat for breakfast, potatoes, pastas, whole grain breads, bananas.....not fair I tell you! But if she stays off the cigarettes and gets better it will be worth it.

My goal is to lose 6 more lbs by Christmas, so I am in for the Sunday weigh ins!

  4. Hey all,

Jumping back in after our b2b cruises. For the 12 days I gained 5 lbs. Not to bad really as I was expecting 10ish lbs. I am already back down 3 of them in 1 day. I was able to enjoy a few drinks and dessert each night. We walked a lot and used the stairs as much as possible.

Dh and I got right back to low carbing Sat AM. It is really great to have him eating the same way.

Our next cruise is in May, so I have to consider what kind of goal. I would really like to be at my goal weight, that is 61 more lbs. I am not sure that is realistic though.

  5. Just a few weeks to go til cruise time and I am up 2 lbs . Of course it is TOM so hopefully that is the biggest reason.

On the up side, people are starting to notice a change, and I am fitting into some of my smaller size clothes(by smaller I mean 16's and XL's). I am still a pretty good size girl but I am working on it.

  6. Is it just me or the weather ~ read, ' time of year' ~ that makes me want to eat junk certainly not Atkins friendly?? You know the culprits, pumpkin bread & other cool day

    favorites...

What in the world do most of you guys do to over ride a craving or opportunity to 'indulge'??

I know what you mean about food this time of year. I was saying this just the other day. But then I thought "I think I say this every season." I know I said it about 'fair food'. You know elephant ears, funnel cakes, cotton candy....

How do I get cravings to pass. I guess just ride them out. For some reason this afternoon I was thinking about Peanut Butter Fudge. I have no idea why I just was.

. Now, we are getting ready for the 13 hour drive for our October cruise!! I have been packing today and I am almost done with packing!! I just hope these last three days don't drag by!!

I know that I am still losing and I am actually wearing my size 13 jeans now!! :D

Have fun on your cruise! And enjoy your new 'ride'. Congrats on the size 13s. That has to be so exciting.

    Hello Atkins buddies...:D

Where has everyone went??? Yes I am a professional lurker, having read these boards for a couple of years... Always looking for advice and info...I have been on Atkins for several years now, prolly ten or so, and am on maintenance, so I feel for each & every one who have come and gone thru the years.... those who have been successful and those who seem to yo-yo...:o

I just went on the Carnival Conquest 9-7-08 (yes, we were in Ike, lost our truck in Galveston...:() but we, DH & I,. took the stairs EVERYWHERE & therefore allowed some xtra carbs in the form of BREAD, WARM CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE...etc, etc well you get the idea;). The point is, don't cave in to the mentality that, well I blew it so now I'm off my WOE...just remember, the next meal is, well, the next meal & just go from there...

We are very active, so maybe we can allow ourselves the occasional "slip up" but always back on track the very next meal, therefore it has really become our 'way of life'.

Thanks for the cruise advise. My plan is to take the stairs exclusively. I know I can't avoid all the great food and drinks so I have decided not to beat myself up over it and work around it.

I did really well this week with my weight loss. Saturday was Fritter Fest at my favorite apple orchard. Dh, dFIL and I went there yesterday to get apples so I can make pies for the freezer. I knew I would have an apple fritter. Then yesterday I had 2 wonderful Honey Crisp apples(that is a type of apple). Today I was still down another pound. I think all that fiber in the apple helped.

Every Fall I make lots of apple pies for the freezer. It is so convienient to pull out a pie and throw it in the oven for Sunday dinner, or to take someplace. I made one for dinner today. But for dh and I(we are both lo-carbing) I made fried apples w/ Splenda and cinnamon that we put over carb smart ice cream. An acceptable substitute for apple pie with ice cream. So I think I will freeze some apple slices for us.

Hubby is at the grocery store now getting stuff to make crustless calzones for dinner. An aceptable substitute for take out pizza, something we both miss.

I am really glad I have .4 lbs to go until my goal for this cruise of being down 27 lbs. I think I should be able to do it.

  7. Donna, What are your plans for maintaining during your cruise? This is something I am really thinking hard about. I know there is no way I can resist the DOD or dinner desserts. I can pass by the bread and potatoes and probably forgo the pasta but desserts are a big weakness for me. I just plan to do the stairs as much as I can and hit the treadmill a few times.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

  8. After struggling last week and waking up Sunday proclaiming how much I hate eating this way(I even called it a diet when I know it isn't), Monday I had lost 1 lb and today I was down another 1.6 lbs. I'm not doing anything differently. Truthfully Sunday I was 'bad'. I had 2 diet sodas, 1 Atkins 'candy bar' and a bowl of carb smart ice cream. I guess I had to shake up my body a little.

  9. Still here.

Great job Donna! Seafood is such a great thing. I just love crab, shrimp all that stuff.

We went to Red Lobster this weekend and I resisted those lovely biscuits. So this morning I was down 1 lb! I am finally over this cough/cold so I am off the cold medicine. At 215lbs,we have 3 weeks til our next cruise. We have another cruise in May with friends. I would like to be at my goal of 150 by then.

  10. Hi Mama Hao....

Chinese is so hard to resist for me! I love it!:D

Chinese food is impossible for me to avoid. At least once a month we meet with her Chinese school for culture class at this buffet. There is no way I can not go, it is too important to Serenity. But is is only once a month.

Pinkbikini, sorry to hear you are under the weather. I have a cold/cough right now.

I think the cold/decongestant I am taking may have something to do with my stall. Any thoughts on this, anyone?

  11. Hi all! Just 'keeping on keeping on' here. I did lose last week but Saturday was cultural school for my daughter.(she is adopted from China) at a Chinese buffet restaurant(the teacher is the owner). I did my best to pick and choose but there must have been some hidden flour or cornstarch in some of the meat and veg because the next day I was back up a pound. But just went right back to the plan and today I was back down 1/2 pound.

I did find the absolute best diet pop though. Jones Soda Sugar-free Green Apple! It taste great. I am still only drinking 1 can with supper but it is so hard to stay away from the rest of the day because I know how good it is. Before I drank one diet-rite cola or cherry cola with dinner, but just one a day.

  12. I am trying really hard to stay focused right now because we leave in 35 days for our next cruise. :D

I hear ya! We have just over that until our cruise. I have been staying on induction since I have so much to lose. I really want to it my goal by our May 3 cruise with friends. I have been seeing some good results that keep me going!

  13. After my slip last weekend I have been faithful to the plan all week. Lots of good veggies, lots of water and only 1 diet soda a day(not even every day). I am happy to report a 1.8 lb loss. WooHoo!!! Off to the store to buy fixins for dinner tonight as well as proper snacks for our card game tonight,

  14. So far so good w/ the ice cream. I have found that if I start feeking sorry for myself re: what I can't have is when I cave. Like passing a Dairy Queen and thinking how much I like DQ and poor me I can't have any. But knowing I have an acceptable alternative at home helps sooo much. My 18 year old son really appreciates a little L/C Rocky Road during a study break.

I cannot use nutrasweet, it makes me sick to my stomach. So I use Splenda. We had been drinking Diet Rite with dinner or Fruit 2-0 in the afternoon. One thing I have found is after this much time w/o sugared drinks, I am finding even these diet drinks too sweet. So I am preferring plain water or if I want some punch to a drink, flavored seltzer/club soda. This from a 15 year Dr Pepper addict! Yeah for me!!

This weekend we are having a big cookout at our camper. We are smoking some pork and beef, so I am off to make some sugar-free rub and bbq sauce!

  15. Howdy all, I'm really glad to find this forum. Dh and I have been doing Atkins for 3.5 weeks now. I am down 14lbs and he is down 12. I have been a little more vigilant than him. I want to ultimately lose 73 more lbs. My 18 yo son jumped on the bandwagon last night.

I have enjoyed getting a little creative with our family's dinners. Last night was crustless quiche, one was bacon, onion, swiss and the other was mushroom, spinach, feta, with tossed salad, and low-carb ice cream, diet-rite float for dessert!

It can sometimes be a challenge to find suitable substitutions for favorite things. Like I really enjoy flavored creamer in my coffee, and I like plenty of the flavored creamer in my coffee! I found some sugar free flavored syrup in the coffee aisle so I can whip up a mean flavored latte right here at home!

I have found keeping Atkins book in my bag to refer to when I am out is really handy, because I am still re-learning how to think about food.

Now to go back and skim 70 pages of posts:eek:
