The Cloud is not in a run down condition. The carpet in this suite looks new or freshly cleaned as does the furniture. There are 2 small marks on the cabinets but only noted as I am looking for defects and the ship is over 20 years old. The wee man was out and about with the bucket of white paint doing touch ups today.

So far everything up to the usual good Silversea standard.

  2. SS used to do a Personalized Voyages Program. Individual day prices were quoted and joining the ship and leaving had to be in a proper destination port and on board for a minimum of five nights. I have not seen any reference to this on their website for a long time. The SS reservations team would be the ones to best advise on that.

  3. In the 2017 brochure it states 'One hour complimentary wifi access per guest/per day' in vista and veranda suites and unlimited in the larger suites.

On our recent 14 day cruise in a veranda suite we had 840 each, 1680 minutes suite total. 28 hours on the internet would mean that I would miss about 4 days of my cruise.

  4. Mel,

Anywhere the ship docks in Venice there is access by road and you might be lucky to find a taxi as there are no taxi stances at the ports.

Near the end of your cruise you will receive a sheet with alternitives for transportation to to airport, a bus or a limousine or if you have a late flight maybe a city tour with an airport transfer after or maybe even a water taxi. If you choose Silversea transport it will be a little more expensive but for the peace of mind and convenience it is worth it.

Unrelated to your question. If there are one or two large ships in port the airport will be very busy and will try your patience.

Have a great cruise and I hope you enjoy the Silversea.

  5. At least once a cruise I have eggs Benedict and a glass of champagne at breakfast which draws some strange looks from some people as all they can see is someone having alcohol at breakfast time. They appear to be outraged. Make me smile.

Tomorrow, off to Copenhagen and join Whisper on Friday. Second day is a sea day and that could be a champagne breakfast?

  6. On last years cruise on the Whisper during a busy time at lunch in the terrazza, they opened up La Champagne for overspill seating for extra capacity with the usual self service at the buffet. As previously stated it's only open for full service in the evening.

This is only noted for information as the OP stated the quote was for the Wind.

  7. This is not consistent with the requirements for the job. All waiters should already be very experienced before they arrive aboard any Silversea ship according to the website for Silversea shipboard positions.

Maybe human resources is not sticking to their own requirements when it comes to qualifications for staff.

We have had plenty days on Silversea, but never experienced anything like this before.

Below is a copy and paste of part of the restaurant waiter job application requirements.

Candidates will require a minimum of 2 years experience in a quality branded 5* hotel or Michelin standard restaurant. Hospitality education and or/apprenticeship is preferred.

  8. Catlover54,

Last year we had good stay at the Olissippo Lapa Palace. The only box it does not tick for you is it's a bit out of the centre of town.

On the other hand If you enjoy sea food, the Sea Me fish restaurant is a definite for a visit and it is near the centre of town.

  9. "Just out of interest Jeff, when did you last cruise with Silversea?"

Reasonable question asked in a reasonable manner.

"Just out of interest Jim, what business is it of yours?"

    Reads a bit aggressive?

  10. Thank you all for you wise, dispassionate answers and information.

So Silversea has an excellent record for health at sea.

We will continue to use the hand sanitisers and know we are staying safe as we can. With this information we know we have been safe and we can continue to look forward to our upcoming Silversea cruises.

  11. Now that Seabourn has disposed of the small triplets that visited many small ports and with their larger ships they no longer have the ability. So it could be that Silversea has seen an opportunity to move in to this luxury area using the Cloud and/or Wind.

I am not taking into account any other cruise line as I am blinkered to Seabourn and Silversea.

  12. Rocchi, there is a small soft covered book, measuring 8" x 5" containing 112 pages, in our case. Near the front of the book is a page headed 'Your Ticket' giving our names, the booking number and the boarding time and place. The following pages cover the itinerary and dress code, My Silversea website explanation, a sales pitch for future cruising and Terms & Conditions. There a few blank liked pages at the back for notes.

There are four luggage tags each.

    All rather under-whelming.

    Thanks 57

The proper luggage tags as supplied by Silversea (and not a home printout) are still important to to the Lady R. and me.

  13. Made a new booking for next year a few days ago and this is a small section of the official e-mail from S/S

In an effort to protect our environment, this eco-friendly email replaces the former pre-cruise documentation information pack. Silversea will now send you one mailing containing all final cruise documents approximately 21-30 days prior to sailing.

    What's in the box?

  14. Hi All,

I just tried to book a day room with the Newark A/P Marriott for October and was told no. It is only an on the day/walk in rate and then only if the hotel has the empty rooms to accommodate you. Was told I had to phone in on the day of arrival or maybe to try the night before to find out about availability.

This is not suitable for me so will try some other place.

  15. I am watching this on the three ship's webcams on the laptop and keeping track on marine traffic. On the Cunard website there is a link to youtube for 'Live footage of Cunard's #3Queens in Liverpool' that will start in about 12.30 UK time.

  16. The only cruise from Lisbon on the Spirit departs is 5509 on 25 April 2015. No other departure from Lisbon appears on UK website for the Spirit and it goes out to Oct 2016. A bit late now I think. Or it could be the one in Sep. 2015 on the Cloud 1525.
