  1. I have a room in south Georgia tonight and a reservation in Miami for Friday so I have a place to stay if I get there.

I have a large gas can and several gallons of water along with food if I get stuck for a while.

I plan to make the call Friday morning if I can proceed to Miami and stop for gas every chance I get below 1/2 a tank.

I'm not just going into this with no concerns but I have quite a bit invested in this trip so I am going to make every effort to safely get there.

    Enjoy...be safe!

  2. My wife and I are not what you would call regular cruisers, in fact this will only be our third and the first with NCL. This was a last minute trip decision and we booked the Escape for 10/8.

Of course we never even thought to look for pending storms (like I said, not experienced cruisers) and just booked this trip last Friday 9/30. I did buy insurance but after checking, they say that since we bought on 9/30 and the storm was named on 9/28 we are SOL.

I don't trust that the airlines will be flying to Miami on Friday so I am now leaving tomorrow afternoon and driving part of the roughly 1200 mile trip.

My plan is to get to south Georgia tomorrow night and then go the rest of the way to Miami on Friday. I am just hoping that if I stay on I-75 along the west coast, I can make it through on Friday.

I know, lots of people are in the same boat (no pun intended). Hopefully all will work out well and we will get to experience a cruise on NCL.

    Wish us luck!

Good Luck to all!! I consider myself a "seasoned" cruiser and didn't see this coming. I booked 3 weeks out and did not buy insurance. My flight from NJ has been canceled twice already. Now flying into Tampa Friday and driving to Fort Lauderdale to relax at the hotel we booked before the cruise. I hope everything goes as smoothly as it can under the circumstances...most importantly that everyone keeps their cool! :)

  3. My wife, family members and friends (30 all together) just returned from our cruise on the Oasis of the Seas, Western Caribbean (July 18-25). We had a fabulous time!! Below are some of my Pros and Cons of our trip.

    Entertainment

Water Show – Always exciting and entertaining

Glow Party – It was cool seeing all the glow outfits and accessories. It is a family event.

70’s Party – Lots of people dressed up in 70’s attire. It was a lot of fun.

Take a nap, it starts late night!

Prohibition Party - Lots of people dressed up. It was also lot of fun.

    ICE Show – Always good

Love and Marriage – Barely funny. It should be replaced. Not kid friendly.

Battle of the Sexes – Funny!

The Quest – Hilarious, interactive and competitive. Not kid friendly.

CATS – This has always been a show that you either love or hate (even on

Broadway). So I will not comment.

Headliner – Mixed reviews. On some ships it has been great. On Oasis, some in our party loved it while others could do without it

Come Fly With Me – Just OK – Royal has had much better shows

Comedy Club – Both comedians for very funny. We had a good time

Bars – All the bartenders were personable and very attentive.

Photo Package – Can be great! But do not buy in advance. A lot of people could not find pictures they had taken. Plus, on the last day of the cruise, photo package specials are offered. Even though the photographers tell you it is based on ‘face recognition’ give them your card anyway to make sure your photos are in your file.

Drink Packages – If you buy at least 3-4 drinks a day, these packages more than easily pay for themselves. Keep in mind that most drinks you buy on the ship can cost $12-$14 and then an 18% gratuity will be added.

    Ports

Cozumel – You have to try Paradise Beach. It is beautiful and clean! Very nice beach, beautiful pool and open air restaurant. The staff is very professional and friendly, the drinks are real drinks and the food is great! The cost was $10.00 round trip per person cab ride there from the International Pier. DO NOT fall for the pitch men inside trying to sell beach packages. Go out front and grab a cab. Paradise Beach is $3.00 per person for entry. They ‘request’ that you spend $10.00 per person on food and/or drinks. This is NOT a problem. Another option is $15.00 per person to have access to various water activities/equipment.

Jamaica – We had a wonderful bi-city tour of Falmouth and Montego Bay for $30.00 per person. They also stop by Scotchies for the best barbecue and jerk chicken, beef, pork and fish found anywhere. For beach goers please send me an email for details on the do’s and don’ts.

    Dining Venues

Park Café – You have to try the Roast Beef on Kimmelweck. To die for!

The Grande - Great for dinner every night. The wait staff was top notch.

American Icon - Nice sit down service and/or buffet for breakfast.

Silk – Sit Down or buffet lunch. They make the best salads found

    anywhere.

Sabor - The food was just OK. Guacamole dip was very good.

Izumi’s – The Sushi is absolutely perfect. They also have a great hibachi

    lunch or dinner

Chops – Always great, but has become very pricey ($39 per person).

Johnny Rockets – The kids loved it.

    What is prohibition party??!!

  4. You are going to love the Dawn! Your style sounds just like my husband and I. We enjoy relaxing on deck with a bucket of beers, and also taking part in things like martini tastings, karaoke, and trivia. I don't have specific answers about times things stay open until, but there were always people dancing in the Spinnaker, singing karaoke in Pearly Kings and listening to piano music outside Gatsby's well into the late evening.

    Here are my must dos:

Star Bar cocktails - love to listen to the piano player up there. After a couple of cocktails people start to sing and dance a bit (maybe that was just me)

Curling up with a book in one of the window seats inside on the main drag, I think it's deck 6.

Second City comedy shows, especially the adult show.

    The Quest!

Getting a spot at the Bimini Lounge for BDA sailaway. Great spot to people watch and reflect on a great time in Bermuda as you head back home. The fries are delicious at Bimini too.

    Dinner at Cagney's during sunset

Martini clinic (Find out if they will offer more than 1 as they usually do. The second tasting on a later sea day was much less crowded and we were able to select our drinks)

Laying out on Deck 10 Forward. There are usually plenty of loungers and the breeze cools you off.

Enjoy! We sail here again June 12!

Oh my gosh!! The quest...YES!! Don't miss it!!

  5. In 2010 I took my then 3 teenagers (the eldest turned 18 on the cruise). It was the most memorable cruise for me in along time.

I remember it had a lot of comedy nights and Second City was awesome! I was disappointed in Second City on the Epic in 2012. All show were fantastic. Bollywood was better than I could have ever imagined...the kids enjoyed it too!

The front of the ship, about deck 13? has a hot tub that looks out the front of the ship. It never seemed to be used...great spot!

We also had, who I consider to have been the best Cruise Director in history... Matt Baker. He really made the cruise.

The Dawn was my first introduction to Freestyle dining, and it was a hard transition. I was used to the 6 and 8 dining. But we met a waiter that made it a great experience for us. He said come here at the same time and I will take care of you. We didn't go to many of the other restaurants. It worked for us at the time. :D

  6. I keep trying to imagine how that works and picture people pile-ups at the wall. But maybe there isn't enough traffic, given the design problems, to cause a problem.

    Thanks for the response!

It took me 4 days to find the way out there. It was kinda rough out and heard it wasn't open, so thats probably why I didn't see the way out there. It is VERY dissapointing...imagine a "track" but the straight away part, with only two lanes with arrows showing which direction to go.
