  1. It is right up the rear - this pushes all of the worry and expense onto the passenger - someone shrewd came up with this at Royal/Celebrity......now it's YOUR PROBLEM/FAULT.......it leaves a bad taste in your mouth for this sudden change of "protocol".....
  2. Glad you won't be on EDGE with us in September! You sound like someone who needs to switch to Carnival.....
  3. Thanks for all the comments….looks like Captain Kate will be joining us Sept. 4. and, for the record, we would NEVER book a cruise for a specific Captain or cruise Director……
  4. Does anyone know if Captain Kate will be on the Sept 4 sailing on the EDGE? Rumor is that she is taking a 3 month break sometime in September- wife wanted to book this cruise specifically for Captain Kate…….TIA!
  5. Can anyone confirm that although Celebrity is advertising Roatan as one of their Western port stops, but that they are not stopping there? I noticed on Cruise Mapper that Roatan is NOT expecting Edge in September in their online schedule , even though our itinerary includes Roatan as a stop. Can someone clarify this? Celebrity will not comment on the fact that they are advertising Roatan even though they know that they are not going there.... TIA
  6. Yes - seems kind of silly doesn't it? They will apparently book night one or two for you, then you have to book the rest of your nights once on the ship. So much for you pre-planning a schedule......
  7. Those days are over - I can tell you - Rhapsody VOOM guy said "no more" - he said that this policy is ship wide, and NO exceptions will be made. Just another screw job to C & A loyal members....When he would not fix it, I cancelled the Voom package - we already get 4 free days (Diamond Plus) - so why should we give them $75-90 for an additional 3 days?? One other thing: We were on the same ship in early December, and when I was talking to this same guy - he said "no problem - just come down and I will transfer your wife's 2 days to you to use". 8 weeks later , and they have again changed the rules of the game.....we take our 2nd Princess cruise soon, where everything is less expensive (drinks,internet,soda)......
  8. Thanks for the constructive comments! Not sure why the five (5) different Royal representatives (on the ship and Royal's wonderful telephone customer service reps) I have spoken to could not verbalize this logical explanation to me. We purchased this particular cruise over a year ago, so yes, port fees probably go up every year, not down. Since there is no transparency with these mysterious fees, you can't tell anything. And, these fees are sometimes equal 15-25% of the fare, and going higher all the time. Just like the resort fees in Vegas - they can do it, so they do! Thanks again!
  9. One other thing on the free internet - if you purchase a VOOM package prior to boarding, they TAKE your free day(s) and you cannot assign the free time to your spouse or significant other.. I think this is a real kick in the balls to Royal's loyal C & A customers......
  10. We just returned from a 7 night Western Caribbean cruise on Rhapsody of the Seas where we paid over $238 in "port Taxes & Fees" for this cruise (2 people). Our last port of Costa Maya was cancelled due to the windy conditions - the port closed arrivals at approximately 5 AM prior to arrival time of 8AM. In the past, we always received a small ($15-30 pp) OBC credit on our SeaPass account for the cancelled port of call. This time we received zero. After spending an hour with the customer relations group (after transfers, disconnected calls, and poor reception) I was told that no refunds were coming because the fees paid to the port were more than what we paid - huh? Has anyone experienced this before? SOMEONE had to pocket the fees that we were charged for visiting this port, and it sure wasn't the LOYAL paying customer...... Prefer positive, constructive comments - not interested in any comments from shareholders or Pinnacles who attempt to defend or rationalize this practice. Thank you for letting me vent.
  11. I would be more concerned about the stench of smoke coming from the casino.......or, just make sure your cabin is not directly under the casino. We were just on Rhapsody in December, and will be on it again in 3 weeks. They have machines running in the casino, but the areas outside of the casino still sometimes smell of smoke. They need to prohibit all smoking inside.....
  12. In May we will be stopping in Seattle for the day on our way to Victoria and Vancouver (from Hawaii). Royal is only offering 5 excursions in Seattle, and they all really suck. Any thoughts or ideas for this stop? Any idea how far the port is from downtown (Pikes Market, Space Needle, etc). We thought about taking Uber into town - but not really sure if this is practical. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They do have a 4 hour "self guided" tour for around $100 - or a deluxe tour for $180. I guess the $100 tour is for transportation and a very hefty profit margin, but not really sure how they arrive at $100 per person for a bus trip to downtown.....seems grossly overpriced and underwhelming.....thoughts? Many thanks in advance.....
  13. My bad - but I really didn't need the extra 2 days - if I had needed it, I would have gone down earlier. My point is that they do something (again) with telling anyone. Just another case of no communication from Royal - and a "heads up" to anyone reading this post. Have a great day.........
  14. Just got off the Rhapsody - I had purchased a Surf and Stream Package for my wife for the entire 7 day cruise. When I tried to use her 2 free Diamond Plus days, the system said that she already had the internet, and would not allow me to establish an account to use her 2 free days, which was an earned BENEFIT (I thought). On the last sea day I went down to talk to the Internet dude, and I mentioned this to him. He said "all you had to do was come down here, and I could have arranged for you to get the 2 free days". I replied "thank you for telling me this on the LAST day". Not sure what everyone's experience has been, but here is another case of Royal attempting to eliminate another benefit that was earned and due to the LOYAL customer. They continue to nickel and dime the customer, and their communication skills lack in many areas.......
  15. Looking for suggestions for a pre cruise hotel in Boston - prefer an IHG, Hilton, or Marriott property property to use hotel points. Not going until next October, but want to get your thoughts on a hotel for 1/2 nights in Boston that is 1) close to the port and/or located close to some Boston sights to visit. Also, how difficult is it to catch Uber from the airport to the hotel? Is there a better/less expensive way to the hotel? And, to the port. We are booked on the 11 night Beantown to Beaches repositioning on Brilliance of the Seas. Many thanks in advance for your thoughts/suggestions/etc.
