  1. Yep, that is the way to do it and save money. Two devices for one person just means 2 concurrent devices can be logged in. If you want a different device to log in, just log out one of the 2 currently logged in. The only thing about doing it this way is you do share one login and  she could potentially log you out by logging into 2 devices herself.  Not usually an issue when you know you are sharing.

  2. Just got this email. It has more details on the engine troubles. Plus we are now getting a full day OBC!

    Dear Guest,

We wanted to provide additional details about Quantum of the Seas’ August 15th, 2022 adjusted itinerary and update you on the speed limitations caused by a technical issue with one of the ship’s engines.

Quantum has four engines. One requires some repair and there’s a delay in receiving the parts needed. Additionally, another engine is scheduled for routine maintenance soon, which means we’ll have to reduce our overall speed during these sailings. While we’re doing everything we can to expedite this, the global supply chain situation that we’re all experiencing is further impacting the delay.

Safety is always our top priority. Our ships can safely sail in these kinds of situations, just at reduced speeds. We’ve been working tirelessly to find a way to visit Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier for your sailing, but this would result in drastically reduced port times. And given that there’s always a risk of missing the Glacier due to weather, it’s best to go with the surer option of keeping better times in port. The decision to modify our itinerary wasn’t taken lightly. We’ve done everything possible to minimize the impact to your time with us and are sorry for the inconvenience.

To help make up for these changes, we’ve increased the compensation offered. You’ll now receive one full day of your cruise fare paid, per person, as an Onboard Credit.

These credits can be used anywhere onboard. And if at the end of the cruise you have a remaining amount left over, it will be refunded to your card on file.

While we can’t wait to set sail with you, we understand this was an unexpected change. Should you no longer wish to sail or want to change your sail date, please contact your Travel Advisor or give us a call at 1 866 562 7625 by July 17th, 2022. You’ll receive a full refund of any paid portion of your cruise to the original form of payment, including non-refundable deposits and any pre-paid amenities, within 14 business days or we can help move your funds towards a new sailing.

Again, we apologize for these changes and appreciate your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you onboard Quantum of the Seas!

    Sincerely,

  3. I had an idea what could be the reason for this. From what I hear only the 1st 3 Aug sailings have received this change. None in July or none after. I was thinking what engine wise could be a reason. What if it's an engine repair? They have an issue that needs to be fixed soon, but the engine is running now. When the parts arrive they need to take the engine offline for 3 weeks to perform the repair. That would explain how they could know it was only those 3 sailings. It is because they are scheduling the work for then.

No facts to back this up, it just fits what we know.

What is the new itinerary that the Quantum will now be sailing for your cruise?  What is RCI offering you for the change, just the $100 OBC?  So sorry this is happening, I know how much of a disappointment this is, we sailed with Princess in May to Alaska and had the same issue and we ended up with cancelled ports and were late to all of them.  Resulted in all excursions cancelled and about 15 total hours in Alaska.

For the 15th this is the new itinerary.  Skagway changed to Ketchikan, some of the port durations reduced, and no Dawes.   So far the OBC is the only offer and if I am reading it correct it is per cabin not per person.

We know you were looking forward to visiting Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier, so to help make up for this unexpected change, we're providing you with an Onboard Credit to use during your cruise – $75 USD for Interior and Ocean View staterooms | $100 USD for Balcony staterooms | $200 USD for Suites. These credits can be used anywhere onboard. If at the end of the cruise you have a remaining amount left over, it will be refunded to your card on file.

  5. Just got this email for our Aug 15th sailing. It sounds odd they know about engine issues this far in advance and are unable to resolve them. I suspect it is more about the Skagway dock landslide.

    ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS

    Dear Guest,

Due to a speed limitation caused by a technical issue with one of the ship’s engines, we’ve reduced our speed between ports, which means we’ve adjusted some of our arrival and departure times in Alaska and British Columbia. As a result, we’ve replaced our visit to Skagway, Alaska with Ketchikan, Alaska on Wednesday, shifted our visit to Sitka, Alaska to Thursday, and we’ll no longer visit Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier on Friday. We’re terribly sorry for any inconvenience caused by this, but the safety and comfort of our guests and crew is always our top priority. Below, please find our revised Quantum of the Seas August 15th, 2022 itinerary.

  6. Ultimately it comes down to what you want. Smartphones can take some excellent pictures, but they are still a tiny sensor with small limited lens. They use software to get the most out of it. Where they shine is is well lit fairly stable shots. Where they lack is in zoom quality, low light, and fast moving subjects. You also don't have as much flexibility in the settings.

You don't need a DSLR. Unless you plan on really learning how to use one and plan on investing in lenses you should not get one. The above suggestion of a bridge camera is a much better option for someone who wants better pictures but does not want to mess with an interchangeable len system.

The Sony 400 is a great option for this. Sony does well with their compact cameras. If you want a bigger step the DSC-RX10 would be a great choice. It is similar quality to some of their interchangeable lens cameras but with a good superzoom lens permanently attached.

  7. I use to pack mine in checked luggage until the one time I had to spend a bad night when my luggage was lost for a day. Never again. I carry on mine in it's travel case.  On airlines at least they do not count against your carry on limits.
