  1. We booked a reservation for Chef's Table to satisfy my husband's affinity for exotic food. I only eat very plain food and I understand there aren't any choices for this meal. Can they accommodate me with a salad or something from the main dining room or even a caprese salad from Manfredi's. It appears to be a very seafood/fish heavy menu and I don't eat any of that. I don't want him to miss this experience but I also don't want to sit there watching him eat for two hours either.

Has anyone substituted anything at Chef's Table on previous Viking ocean ships?

  2. I was wondering about the sea trials. Doesn't that mean that they are testing only for seaworthiness? That doesn't necessarily mean that the whole interior is done (plumbing, linens, furniture, kitchen fit out, etc. etc.) It is possible that they're still finishing the interior.

I called Viking representatives but they know absolutely nothing. When I tried to clarify if Oct 4th was the first sailing (a few months ago when there was conflicting information) they told me it was already sailing! A supervisor tried to clear that up and then told me that Oct 4th was the maiden voyage with paying customers.

It would be good for Viking to give updates on the newer ships being built for the thousands of passengers who have already booked and want reassurances that all is well.

  3. I sure hope the first cruise with paying customers on the viking SUN is not December 1st!!! There are three cruises scheduled to sail the Adriatic in October and we're on one of them. From what I'm reading October 4th is the first paying customer cruise from Venice to Athens.

  4. We are so excited! My husband is reading Greece guide books and trying to learn Greek and Croatian phrases for Please and Thank you, etc. He's studying the geography and history and mythology of the places we're going. We just went through Hurricane Harvey (we live in Houston) and couldn't leave the house so I started packing a first aid kit and incidentals like make up and lotions and potions. Anything to take my mind off the constant rain. It's only a month away now!

  5. Question for seasoned Viking Ocean travelers: Are the menus for the week for Chef's Table and The Restaurant posted on the interactive TV in your room? That would be good to know before I make reservations for the specialty restaurants.

  6. We are very excited to be on the Viking Sun's first voyage (Venice to Athens) on October 4th. It is upsetting to see all the info about the world cruise in December being the Viking Sun's initial voyage and other info about the Sun being "ready to sail in November 2017". Feel kind of overlooked like we'll be the guinea pigs to test everything on board for the later cruises.

One question I have for seasoned cruisers is how do you convert your $20 euros to smaller change for tipping tour guides, etc.

Again we are thrilled to be one of the first cruisers on the Viking Sun. When we booked we didn't know it was the first time out with paying passengers. We liked the early October date for the weather that time of year as well as fewer crowds in port.
