  1. A good TA will beat the cruiseline every time. I usually get the NCL promotion (the same as those who deal directly with NCL) + a nice separate bonus from my TA. If there is a problem, THEY handle it and I don't have to do anything. If there is a price cut, THEY will get it for me. If the cruise changes in any way, they do the work and I wait for their email - no phone holding needed.

Why use the NCL website to book your cruise??

Agreed! Working in customer service means that regardless of whether you are having a bad day, you have to be pleasant.

I recently booked with a large TA and they were very pleasant. I also had the option to work with a NCL rep but didnt feel as comfortable. When the price dropped, I let my TA know and she gladly readjusted the invoice.

  2. I'm on the same ship. Feb 1 breakaway. It sounds like we should bring ginger ale and motion sickness tablets.

Also judging the weather from past five years February is a brutal month to travel via plane. There are usually delays due to storms. You can't predict 100%. This is judging from my experience traveling in the past couple years.

    Glad I'm not flying!

  3. We brought everything with us last month when we cruised with our 18 month old on the Freedom. Granted we drove, so that made it easy. But even if we had flown, I'd have packed what I could and then made a Walgreens/Target pit stop on the way to the pier.

We planned for the worst. I brought enough diapers for the worst diarrhea for 7 straight days. Same with wipes. I would MUCH rather lug some extra diapers on the ship and not need them then end up with a sick little one and panic because we ran out. We brought a lot of diapers home, but I still felt at ease having them. I packed a shoebox and filled it like a medicine cabinet. Snot sucker, baby saline, child SeaBands, infant Tylenol/Advil, bandaids, Neosporin kids, gas drops, aloe, hydrocortisone, Benadryl, etc... I put the shoebox inside a huge Ziploc and packed around it in the center of the suitcase. The shoebox was great since I could just put it on the shelf in the closet and didn't have little bottles and stuff everywhere!

Our son is a temperamental eater at best, so we brought quite a few pouches and snacks with us. With meal time being so off and him being so active all the time, we ended up using the pouches a lot for lunches and snacks when we were short on time. I just packed a little duffel with pouches, snacks, water bottles, a few spoons, a little bottle of dish soap for washing, and a bottle brush and carried it onboard.

Prolly more information than you wanted to know (sorry) but I was lost when I was packing and looked for all the tips I could find!!

Good tip about packing shoebox like Medicine cabinet!

  4. Sailing on Aug 23 BX and just got mine assignment a couple of days ago, 10158. Kind of wanted a starboard side. By I am so happy to be going regardless of the location. Any one had any luck with getting a cabin switch once it's been assigned?

I posted a similar query. Hope someone can answer.

  5. We also have a BX for our cruise next feb. Will be traveling with an infant so I hope we get one of the BX rooms but it is risky.

Does anyone know when they assign us a room and as it gets closer to the sail date like one week out. If we see a better room avail can we request to change rooms?

  6. I was in 8122,no noise or smoke.Deck 8 is perfect for getting to 678 ocean place. The only negative is you are 7 decks from the pool.

Good to know. I actually don't frequent cruise pools. I'm not into the dining, shows and relaxing. Also my baby won't be able to go into the pool. We will probably bring an inflatable tub for him to play in.

  7. Did you book BX with a specific cabin assignment 8112, 8110, 8710, or 8712? If you did, you're assured that nice large balcony. If you aren't assigned one of the 4 staterooms I listed, its a BX guarantee reservation and you could end up with the tiny balconies.

Here's a great picture of the BX balconies. They are the 2 cabins all the way forward:

    Norwegian Breakaway in Rotterdam

The TA said NCL would assign cabins since this is just a guarantee. I mentioned if they could put in the notes to reserve a large balcony if possible since we have an infant. Crossing my fingers!

  8. Probably because these cabins are really forward ... more wind, more noise, more movement, more walking ;)

Also look at cat. BX cabins (next to MX) ... 8110, 8112, 8710, 8712 ... these are the same size interior as the BA-BF cabins ... with a balcony about the same size as the M6-MX ... but the balconies are just set back a little :)

I just noticed BX.. I might book these instead since it's almost 900 cheaper. Thanks!

  9. Ditto ... :)

I actually prefer NCL ... DH prefers RCCL ... but we agree that BOTH have lots of different things to offer ... and it's a GOOD thing ... or else we'd ALL be on the SAME ships ;)

Thanks all for the suggestions! Will definitely be leaning towards an M6 then.

I'm keeping an open mind and trying to share the good qualities of the ship to help change his mindset. It looks like a good ship overall.

  10. Whenever we cruise, I always enjoyed having a lounge chair out on the balcony.

I'm planning to book a balcony room for my family (hubby, and 1 infant who will be turning one years old on the ship) on Breakaway mid-January. Previously we have been on Royal and Celebrity. Originally we wanted to try Royal Quantam but the price was too high. So my husband believes it is a step down for him to try NCL.

Any recommendations on what room to book for a family of 3, including baby?
