  1. We are excited to be taking this cruise next year.  Just booked it today with our Princess agent.  MY DH is mobile but not for long piers like some in the Caribbean..he walks with a cane..for those of you who have been to Greenland, please let me know if the piers are a long walk..I can't tell from the pictures.  Thanks very much.

  2. Thank you everybody for your prompt responses to my post re not able to use the Medallion.  First, we have been loyal Princess cruisers for many years and as one poster suggested that we look for a cruise line that does not employ this system...that to me is an insensitive reply. Nor, if I had a nut allergy would I expect the cruise line to cease  offering nuts!  Faced with the potential situation with the Medallion, I simply put it out on Cruise Critic to find out if any of you have dealt with the problem/or will be dealing with it and what have you/or are you doing about it.

I appreciate the quote of keeping it 6" away from the medical implants.  On a lanyard it is impossible and the option of wearing it on the wrist would require constant vigilance that he would not bring it near the chest or face areas. On our b2b Regal cruises in December/January, he was given the regular card to use...no problem from Princess personnel.

However, I have been led to believe from reading  postings on Cruise Critic that this option  will not be available for our next cruises in December/January. So, I posted the question to all of you for some guidance/experience with this type of situation.  You have been very helpful!  I will let you know when I find out the answer to my questions about the Medallion.

Again, thanks very much for your thoughtful replies to my question.

  3. My DH has implants that prevent him from using the Medallion.  We were on the Regal Princess in December/January and were not sent in advance the Medallion so had no problem upon checking in to request the ship card only.  We are booked on the Sky Princess for the holidays and then later on the Caribbean Princess.  Who do we contact in advance to make sure that the Medallion is not mailed to our home because we can't use them.  Also, we usually leave for Florida a week or two in advance of our sailing so it won't reach us for either sailings. I appreciate any insight you can give us on how to handle this.  Thanks very much.

  4. My DH has mobility problems -- he can walk but not down and back long piers.  We have never been to Falmouth before and would appreciate it if you could let us now how much walking he will have to do when he gets off the ship to the port where the shops and restaurants are located.  It would be good if he could just get off the ship and have an opportunity to sit at a restaurant and see that part of Falmouth.

We wish there were golf carts for transportation but that they are available in few ports.

Thanks very much in advance for your input in this matter.

  5. We will be on a Holland America cruise ilater this year and it will be our first time going to their private island. My DH walks with a cane and he is not a sitting on the beach person. Are their places for him to to sit before the restaurant area? I noticed there was a tram on the map...where does it go to? Any suggestions you can give us will be appreciated. I don't want to have him go there and not be able to enjoy it.

  6. Thanks Marco for the comparison report. It answered most of the questions we have about the difference in the two cruises. We were under the impression that MSC had set times for food and that none was available after dinner.

We are also wondering if MSC accepts your Princess Elite credits, do you then lose the Elite status on Princess?

Also, what is the casino like aboard the Divina? Do they have room service; for example, for breakfast. We always book a mini suite on Princess ships so what type of room would be its equal on the Divina?

We really appreciate your response to our above questions.

  7. In our upcoming Christmas cruise, it will be our first time in Martinique and we would really appreciate any information about the length of the walk from the ship to where where the taxis are located.

We are trying to find out how long the pier walk is because my DH has some mobility issues in that he cannot do a lot of walking and not on uneven ground.

Thanks in advance for giving us this information so we can plan on what we can do in Martinique.

  8. Can you tell me how far the walk is to Marmalade Restaurant...my husband can't walk too far...could we get a taxi to the restaurant? Do we need reservations?

Thanks so much for answering my questions.

We've cruised out of Old San Juan a couple times (check out my reviews for detailed data on it). Our favorite places are Barrachina, Marmalade and Cafe Manolin. All of them are easy to get to and not too far from the port. And congratulations!!! We love sailing out of Old San Juan!
  9. My DH is a big/tall man and he can't walk the 1000 feet without any place to stop and rest. you said that the scooter ride was bumpy.... was it uncomfortable and is there any reason to be concerned that the scooter might tip? Thanks very much for your reply to my questions.

And the majority (if not all) the streets in the dock area are cobblestone and hard to walk on if she has mobility issues. I use a scooter and was able to travel on most of those streets but it was a very bumpy ride. I too can walk but not very far. I could NEVER have made it from the ship out to the street where the shops begin. It was longer than the entire length of the ship which is about 1000 feet if that gives you any idea how far she will need to be able to walk. And I don't recall seeing a place to sit and rest a moment along the way. There is no golf cart or shuttle there like in other ports.

Also it would be very difficult to push a wheelchair on those cobblestones and up the many hills. The whole area there is hilly. I had to swallow my pride when I needed the scooter but it has made my cruises and other vacations so much better for me and everyone travelling with me.

  10. Bandits Wife...Can you send me the contact info for the private driver that you hired in Belize. We will be there in December and want to hire a private car and driver. Thanks much.

  11. We will be in Belize in December and are looking at a Viator Tour of the city, etc. Have any of you had any experience using Viator for tours in Belize?

Thanks for your input on this.

  12. How did you contact AJ Meddy? Was this a private tour or a group tour. How long was the tour? It sounds like a great tour and I would like to get in touch with them. We will be in Grenada in late February -- one port that we have never been to.

  13. I would appreciate if you could help me decide which hotel to book in FLL pre- and post-cruise in December. My husband can't walk too far to restaurants, etc. so that is why I am reluctant to book any property without dining facilities.

I'm the opposite -- I enjoy walking and exploring new areas.

We have stayed at the Hyatt Place and Embassy Suites in the past. I didn't particular care for the Hyatt Place -- nothing much to do nearby.

Renassiance and Pelican Grand are a bit pricey near the holidays.

Any suggestions will be truly appreciated.
