This is all I know for certain.

I do not envy anyone involved with this. Not the passengers on board. Not the crew. Not the Princess executives trying to figure out what the heck to do. Not the doctors and nurses hoping to keep people healthy. And not the Japanese government faced with balancing the health needs of everyone on board and on shore. The weight put on all these people’s shoulders is crazy.

Now... is anyone else confused by the pictures of food? I’m not talking about the confusion about who is preparing it. But some passengers (assuming no one is faking it) are posting pictures of packages things like cup of noodles. And others like David Abel are showing menus and somewhat fancy prepared foods. Are people getting different food???

Here’s a photo of lunch from the couple I’m following on Reddit.

  2. I'm not one that will initiate a hand shake, but my job has me meeting clients and when I do, they almost always offer a hand so I will take it.  But I immediately use the restroom and do a good scrub down.  And on the off chance we're somewhere without a bathroom, I just be sure to order something where I can confidently use a fork or the wrapper.

  3. I did a search and wasn't able to find exactly what I needed, but we're sailing aboard HAL (Eurodam) for the first time in June this year.  We are wanting to book Pinnacle for my birthday (16th), that much is a given, but I'm a planner and like to plan everything way beforehand, including where we will eat each night.  Another CC member here posted that he prefers to eat in the MDR on Gala nights because the menu tends to be better.  So, we were hoping someone here could guess on when the gala nights might be given the following itinerary.  I assumed Sunday night would be the first, but don't have a guess as to the second.  I also noticed that Sel de Mer pop up is on June 17th based on the HAL website.  Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Sat June 13        Depart Seattle
    Sun June 14        Sea Day
    Mon June 15    1pm – 10pm    Juneau
    Tue June 16    7am – 4pm    Glacier Bay
    Tue June 16    6pm – 10pm    Icy Straight
    Wed June 17    7am – 5pm    Sitka
    Thur June 18    7am – 1pm    Ketchikan
    Fri June 19*    6pm – 11:30pm    Victoria
    Sat June 20    7:00am    Seattle

    DivotMaker,

Last week I was finally able to make reservations for my August 9 cruise. But I got a similar screen  as you when I clicked on the Available Dates section. However, if I clicked on Buy Now, a screen opened up that allowed me to choose a day and time and complete the reservation.

    Ahh, thank you, that worked!

Thanks for the responses all.  I decided to go ahead and book the specialty dining in advance and pay now.  One less thing to worry about when boarding.  I'll find something else to spend the rest of the OBC on.

We're sailing Eurodam to Alaska on June 13th but we still can't make reservations online.  Each time I select a date for the restaurant a screen opens with the following weird message

on the Diamond Princess the number of confirmed cases goes up each day with the infirmary very busy with people with high temps...I would be calling the government too. Now they have them walking on deck supposedly xxx number of feet apart with gloves etc. and yet videos of this show distances are not maintained and most don't have gloves on. I think I would pass on that activity.

This is what surprised me.  I saw a photo earlier of three females taking a group selfie, couldn't have been more than 6" apart.

Joanie, I don't know if anyone has told you this, but your font is almost totally unreadable on mobile devices.  There's a problem with this site pertaining to that particular font (comic sans).  I highly suggest changing it so your posts can be read.

Thanks for posting this...Indeed very hard to read (see below)

Ironically we see Celebrity's suite prices increasing from what we used to pay for them, especially for the Celebrity and Royal suites.  For us, HAL's itineraries FAR exceed X's and that's the first thing we look at when picking a cruise.  And doubtful X will ever offer anything that will entice us to try one of those sensory-overload Edge-class ships either.  Thankfully there are lots of options for everyone. 🙂

Exactly.   I just spent quite a bit of time on Celebrity's website.  I might be in the minority here, but I just wasn't all that impressed with all the "cool features" they advertised.  I agree, it seemed like sensory overload to me, almost like a carnival.  We chose HAL because we just want to unwind and relax, and the more I compare the two the more I believe giving HAL a shot for this particular itinerary (Alaska) is a better fit for us.  YMMV.

It really wouldn't be a huge hardship for people to give up nonessential travel and gatherings for a few weeks to let things stabilize.  We really have become quite spoiled, I think.

While I agree with you, it's wishful thinking at best. People are selfish.  I'd assume most, if not all, know someone who comes to work even when displaying cold/flu symptoms, no matter how many times we're told to stay home.  It's just the new norm unfortunately.

Thank you.  I suspected that it would have those kind of qualifying statements.

On the other hand most publications from medical sources are using the 3-6 feet figure at practical infection range.

You bet.  When I read the other poster's 200 feet comment, I did some research as well and came across the same 3-6 feet generalized statement.  That said, I still wouldn't want to be within 500 feet of an infected person 🙂
