THAT WAS YOU????? :-) I waved right back!! I took pictures of the Rhapsody, you could be in them. Who knows? I also videoed the dolphins swimming very close to the port side of the ship after it docked yesterday morning. Did you see them? I kept hoping to see whales or dolphins or any sea life really during the trip and was happy that before I got off the ship I DID. It didn’t matter that it was right here in Galveston... I hadn’t left the ship yet so it was apart of the cruise. You're going again in two weeks? How wonderful. I'd love to be able to travel that frequently. Hope you have a great trip!!

How funny you should mention b2b cruising because that’s exactly what I was wishing I could’ve done for my first cruise. I was on the 8/26/07 Carnival Conquest cruise and it was PERFECT! I don’t think I would’ve been happy with the decision to go b2b had I been able to what with Felix kicking ass the way he is right now.

I just got back yesterday from my 7 day cruise on the Carnival Conquest. This being just one week after hurricane Dean and just days before Hurricane Felix. This was my first cruise and the weather could not have been more perfect. Sunny skies EVERYDAY, with the exception of arriving back in Galveston yesterday morning. The ocean was for most of the trip was calm and smooth as glass. I have tons of pictures of it because I found it so amazing. You couldn’t even tell you were on a ship. It was so awesome!! We were watching the news on the ship coming home from Cozumel on Friday regarding hurricane Felix and I’ve been concerned for those waiting to get on the ship after our departure yesterday ever since. Felix is headed at full speed straight into their line of passage. It wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t get off the ship the entire cruise. I just hope they have a safe journey. It hasn’t stopped raining here (about 45 miles from Galveston) all morning. And when I say raining I mean pouring and its all coming from the coast. Keep those folks in your prayers and thoughts. They are going to need it. As for me, I have wonderful memories of my 1st cruise and about a million pictures. It was perfect. We made friends for life in our dinner partners aboard the ship. They can keep Jamaica... I wasn’t impressed at all. Although we had no problems with violence as some have. The Grand Cayman was a nice place but neither of them can compare to Cozumel. I look forward to flying back to Cozumel hopefully sometime this year or early next and spending 7 days right there. That place is absolutely gorgeous! I am hooked on snorkeling and I don’t mean with the stingrays. DONT LIKE THOSE AT ALL! :-) Good luck to those out on the sea as we speak. They need it.

I sure hope you're right about not getting much from Dean. We live just 45 minutes from Galveston and have had enough rain for the time being. Not sure what other ports they will have to choose from but my BF said he took a cruise a few years ago that stopped in the Progresso port and he hated it. In fact when we booked this cruise we specifically told our agent we did NOT want to stop in Progresso. My BF says its filthy and nasty and that if this cruise ports there he wont even get off the ship. Ive already cancelled my excursion in the Cayman Island as we were to take a jeep ride for the island tour and I just wasnt sure the island would be fit to tour. I'm gonna try and schedule a snorkling excursion or something to that affect instead. I guess we shall see. Good luck with your cruise too. Hope you have a safe journey.

I hadnt even thought of the possibilty of damaged to my truck back at the port of Galveston in the event that the storm affects that area or another storm comes in while we are at sea. I'll be interested to see what comments you get from this posting.

I guess for now all we can do is wait and see what mother nature has in store for us. I will be contacting the insurance company on Monday to see what constitues a full refund for the cruise itself but for those of you who may be interested.... Ive also checked on the cancellation policy for shore excursions. According to the info I found on Carnivals website shore excursions can be fully refunded. If you cancel before you sail the credit will be refunded directly back to the credit card for which it was charged and if you cancel after you sail the credit will be issued to your ship account which if not used during the trip is also refunded at the end of the cruise. I really wish my BF had scheduled this trip before hurricane season but it was a bit of a spur of the moment thing since we had origianlly planned to take our Harley and RV and make a trip to Sturgis for the bike rally and because of some damage to our RV we had to cancel that trip. I just hope this one doesnt get cancelled too and if we are able to sail that we still have a great time. We shall see....huh?

This will be my first cruise and I am seriously concerned about the weather right now. I really don't think Jamaica will be in any shape to dock there and I'm not sure about Cayman Island and Cozumel either. We bought insurance so we should be reimbursed if we decide to cancel and according to the rules the trip can be canceled as late as 30 minutes prior to sailing but I just don't know what to do. I really want to make this trip but not at the risk of endangering our lives. For anyone out there that has had to deal with situation, what did you do?

Well with your encouragement I am now not only not as weary about the visit but looking forward to it. I cant wait to see what the island has to offer. And the kids....well, I'll make it appoint to meet some of them and see what trinkets they have to sell AND have the honor of having my picture taken with them. We have a portable printer so maybe I can even leave a picture with one or two of them. (smile) Thanks allot!

Ya know when you stop and think about it you're probably right. I mean I live just an hour from Houston and it has one the highest crime rates in the nation. And besides which weren’t those tourist robbed in the evening? We aren’t planning to be on the island past 3 or so. At any rate, I think if we're just aware of our surroundings just like we are when in Houston or any other big city we'll be ok. Guess you just have to be aware and alert. Once when we went to the border of Texas and Mexico it was a terrible site to see those poor little kids begging for handouts. It broke my heart that I couldn’t help each and every one of them. So it’s nice to know that you found the children such a pleasure and that they didn’t hound you the entire time you were there. I wouldn’t mind buying trinkets from them, in fact I want to see what they have to bring back as souvenirs. Maybe with the trinket I'll bring back a wonderful memory as well. Thanks or the info. I can hardly wait for my very first cruise and island experience.

Thanks so much for the info. Kinda of sad to hear that Margaritaville was such a disappointemnt to you but I think we may go ahead and check it out anyway. Hey, maybe theyve cleaned it up since last year and the incident. I hope so. Thanks allot!

I am new to this site and am taking my first cruise in August on the Carnival Conquest. Our first stop is Montego Bay and this is the only stop that we don't have an excursion planned. Not because Ive heard anything bad about the place since today is the first Ive heard that it was unsafe but because I wanted to play it by ear. I kinda wanted to go over to Doctors cave beach for awhile and then take a walk to Margaritaville. My son is adamant that I check it out while I'm there and he's right how often does one have the chance to visit Jimmy Buffets "Margaritaville"? But now I am reconsidering because of the things Ive read here. Is making the trip to Margaritaville something I should really reconsider? As I stated this is my first cruise and I don't want anything to take away from the experience and certainly don't want to put myself and my BF in any dangerous situation. If I have to I can stay aboard the ship and still enjoy myself since its all so new to me. Anyone have any suggestions or input for me? PLEASE.
