  1. Last time I was there I stayed at the Hotel Mazarin. It's about a block off Bourbon Street, clean and comfortable.

I will be sailing from there again on Feb 17, 2018. I tried the Mazarin, but it had no rooms for the day before the cruise. I ended up booking the Hotel Monteleone. It is also a block off Bourbon St. I'm looking forward to it--they have a fairly famous revolving bar, a long history, and a supposedly haunted 14th floor. (But maybe that isn't an attraction for you!)

  2. Definitely the smaller the better. I love the feel of the ocean which you don't get on mega ships. A little rocking and rolling makes me sleep like a baby. I also think the food and service is better on ships where the crew is dealing with hundreds of people instead of thousands. It's also easier to meet people that you will see every day and form friendships.

  3. My wife and I are flying in on the 24th, cruising out on the 25th, do you normally use Galveston Express for your return trip to the airport?

I usually use the ship's shuttle, but this time I decided to try Galveston Express from ship to airport. I was not happy with the shuttle on my last trip. Also, Galveston Express is cheaper. Round trip from IAH to Galveston hotel and ship to IAH is costing me $65.

  4. My parents were married in Cartagena about 70 years ago. There is a picture of my father with his foot up on a low sea wall with the ocean behind him. My mother is now 90 and I want to surprise her with a picture of me at the same wall, but I don't know where it is.

Any ideas? Old city? Fortress? Any help locating this wall is appreciated. I'm going in October, and it will be my first time there.

  5. I am starting to look at excursions for Grand Cayman. I will be there in October on the Carnival Triumph. We will be the only ship in port.

I'm debating between "Rum Point beach escape" and "Turtle and wildlife adventure with lunch". I have been to stingray city on a previous cruise.

I sail solo, so I usually stick with ship excursions.

Any opinions from those of you that have done these Carnival excursions?

  6. I go to insuremytrip.com and usually get a policy from Travelguard which covers everything. The premium is pretty cheap, and it is "primary" or "first" coverage ( I don't know the exact term, but it means they pay first--I don't have to go throught my insurance first.)

The first 2 times I bought it, I made a claim, and they paid very fast with no hassle. (Cruise line went belly up, non refundable air fare, etc) They covered everything. I won't sail without it now. On my last cruise, I fell and broke my wrist--Travelguard would have covered all the medical bills on the ship. However, I was lucky--Carnival did not charge me a dime for the care I got on the ship.

If you get the insurance when you book, they will cover pre-existing conditions that may come up before you sail. If you break your leg before your trip and are unable to go, they will make sure you get reimbursed for the cruise fare, prepaid hotel, air fare, etc)

My recommendation....don't leave home without it!

  7. My husband and I both wear them, and we are NOT newbies, we are Princess Elite. I never carry a purse, and sometimes I don't have any pockets. I don't put it in my husband's pocket because we are not glued at the hip 24/7.

I just want to clarify the response I made earlier.....We only wear the card on a lanyard while onboard. It's just easier. We NEVER wear them ashore! I don't want to call attention to myself as a tourist any more than I have to for security/safety reasons.
