  1. Flying in the same day as your cruise? Unless you are on a red-eye getting in first thing in the morning I would not chance the train; check your roll call to see if you can share a ride with someone else or pay for the cruise line transfer bus from MIA to your ship.

If you do take the train I would ride to the FLL station. If there are no cabs at the station ride the shuttle to the airport and then cab to your ship from there for about $15.

Remember, you need to be checked in 90 or so minutes before the ship sails (see your cruise documents) in order to clear security/TSA/immigration, etc.

I will have been in Miami for 5 days already and have the whole day to get to the ship. There is no roll call or transfer. I will take the train to the FLL airport and get a taxi.

    Thankx for your help.

  2. If you arrive during the day and are not in a hurry you could ride the Tri-Rail train from MIA to FLL for under $5 each. http://www.tri-rail.com/

Hi, I was thinking of taking this train as I'm travelling on my own and the limo rates are extremely high.

What station should I get out at and would I be able to get a taxi easily to the Port Everglades? It will be on Good Friday April 3 - a public holiday.

    Thankx for any help offered.

    Cheers

  3. We had a slight snafu checking in for our Air New Zealand flight at LAX. Since we are flying into New Zealand but leaving by ship, they needed proof that we would be leaving the country.

Bon voyage Victoria! :) Hope u and Bob have a lovely cruise and I look forward to seeing u in Sydney!

  4. All u ever wanted to know about the SS new included excursions is here in an interview with Kristian C. Anderson.

    http://www.fromthedeckchair.com/2015/02/09/silverseas-inclusive-mediterranean/

"Our guests – our Venetian Society guests – were asking for it. And when our Venetian members speak and voice their feelings and their views, it’s our responsibility to listen. After pretty significant feedback, we also modeled the proposition to potential guests and in both segments [prospective and past Silversea guests], it was a resounding “Yes!” to the question of exploring this new program."

    Oh really??

  5. When I was in Guatemala in 2010, I was booked on the Tikal excursion. We got as far as the airport (military), waited, waited, waited and no plane turned up. Apparently, the farmers were burning the sugar cane fields and there was too much smoke and zero visibility for even a little plane so the trip was cancelled. SS gave a full refund for Tikal and very quickly organised for us to spend the day in Antigua at no charge. Very good customer service I thought but extremely disappointing...what can u do?...accept and move on.

  6. SS friends

Many of u would have known Debbie Hoffren or DebbieH103 as she was known on Cruise Critic.

Debbie passed away in Jamaica on Monday. My heart goes out to her husband Todd and family.

Debbie was such a beautiful soul, with so much spark. The world has lost a true champion. May she RIP.

  7. I'm so glad you got your onboard credit worked out with your solo 10%+. I am booked as a solo on the same cruise' date=' FLL-SFO 16 April - and was able to get both too! YAY for us! I will look forward to meeting you then...Jen[/quote']

I'm on the FLL-FLL cruise before u and I got the upgrade and OBC 2 days before I made final payment. It never hurts to ask and from my limited experience with SS, they have been quite accommodating.

  8. Wow, u have some astonishing photos, h2so4. When u were in the buggy, were u allowed out in the snow or was it too dangerous with the bears around? Is November the best time of year to see all the bears?

Churchchill has just gone onto my bucket list...sigh

  9. I got the invitation via email but it was of no interest to me so it went in the trash.

A couple of weeks ago, my brother who has never sailed on SS or even made an enquiry, got a brochure via snail mail.

    I didn't get the brochure.

I couldn't understand how SS could get his details and then it dawned on me that I'd put him down as an emergency contact for my last cruise.

Interesting that SS is now 'targeting' emergency contacts!

  10. Really loved your pics and travel blog, yourSLCwoman. Glad u enjoyed your cruise so much.

I note that u are from Salt Lake City - I've just come back from a holiday in Utah...it's a really beautiful state with the most stunning scenery! :)

  11. I chose Crystal over SS last year purely for the itinerary and I'm glad that I did because it gave me the opportunity to experience another cruise line.

As a solo cruiser, I didn't feel that Crystal looked after me like SS has in the past. I also didn't like the fixed dining times (like everyone else on this board).

However, the Symphony was a lovely ship and even though one of my sectors was fully booked, it never felt crowded. I also liked their 2 specialty restaurants and the evening entertainment was very good.

Plus of course the ice cream bar was to die for...Ben & Jerry's ice cream. :D We can get it in Australia but it's crazy expensive.

SS is my cruiseline of choice but if I found a Crystal itinerary that suited me, I would go again on Crystal.

  12. I stayed there in 2012 before going to the Galapagos. Nice hotel. I had a huge issue with a tour that I'd booked to the Cloud Forest and the concierge really helped me...even made a call on my behalf to the USA to try to sort out the problem. Very very helpful.

  13. My wife and I have just this week returned from a Singapore-Singapore trip on the Shadow, which included three nights in Yangon.

    Hi machotspur

Thankx for giving me all this detail. It sounds really interesting. Glad to hear u enjoyed it so much.

    Cheers
