I wish I could consider some of these short-term deals, but I have cruises booked for 10/26 and 12/6. Right now I'm looking at March or April 2016.

Sorry to be dense, but I'm still amazed you can leave Florida, go to Hawaii and end up in San Diego in 14 days.
I was thinking that they went from Florida to San Diego, then to Hawaii. Back to back. The original poster says they didn't do that, but I think it's possible.

John&LaLa...I assume that 1jazzylady crossed the Panama Canal to get from Florida to California, and then Hawaii. Is that what you were asking?

Many thanks for link. Coming up at £347 this morning for inside gty. The daily gratuity semms to be £8.50. Not clear if they will add on 18% service for the value of the UBP. Do you happen to know?
Sorry if I'm asking you to explain the obvious, but what is UBP? Thanks in advance.

Don't be made to feel like your choice is wrong or weird. On some occasions I dined alone because I felt like it, other times I asked to be seated with others. (I'm talking about anytime dining.) They are happy to accommodate you.

How are the prices for solos?

Perhaps if the person who wants to share a specific website without directly naming it, could say "It's the one that sounds like...ice wine, or bugle." That way, interested people would know if they're on the right track. I've seen TV hosts do that when they want to say something negative about a company without getting sued.

With Carnival, I have found that when it gets closer to the sail date, you can probably upgrade to the next level for not much more money.

I am with Velvetwater...I was brought up not knowing there was any other way to eat steak or roast beef than well done, because that's how my mother liked it. I'm sure I was an adult before I discovered that it doesn't have to be tough and leathery. Make mine medium rare and juicy, please!

Could you come up wit h a bigger signature? Goddamn, dude. It covers the whole screen even at 1920x1080 resolution.
Sorry, I am using my phone and I don't see the signature graphics here. I actually have 3 upcoming cruises to add, so I'd like to find a way to post a countdown which takes up less space. Oh, and I'm not a dude. [emoji15]

I have to say I've never heard of durians. They look tasty, of course I can't smell them. Are they sweet at all? Does cooking remove the smell, or does the smell overpower it all?

Usually on at least one night, Carnival serves an expensive or not-usually-seen fish at dinner. Two cruises ago I had roasted sea bass, and in April one night I had corvina, which I had never tried before. Both were delicious.

I neglected to mention that this cruise is out of Miami.

I don't consider myself an introvert, but I do like cruising solo, maybe I just don't feel comfortable sharing intimate space like showers and bathrooms with someone unless I know them very well. I posted this earlier, but I would encourage you to check out the Bahamas cruise on Norwegian Sky, Dec. 5, 2016. It's a 5 day that goes to Freeport, Nassau and NCL's private island. As a solo I was able to book a balcony for $604. I'd love to have some of you come along and have a few drinks with me! (This fare included a free beverage package.)

The sticker was on our card when we got it at check-in (we pre-bought).:D
That is good to know! I am one who has debated in the past about whether the package would be worth it for me. I have a cruise coming up in October on Carnival Ecstasy which is a 5 day-4 night, and I'm going to try it on the shorter trip and judge from there how I feel about it. I tend to think that I will drink more than I normally would, but then on other cruises I have passed on drinks at times when I would have liked one, because I didn't want my bar tab to be too high.

Not true on Princess.
I know...an earlier poster had done this on Princess, and wondered if the other cruise lines do the same.
I was just letting them know.

To those who are wondering...most cruise lines require all adults in a cabin to purchase a beverage package. They don't allow one person to have it and the other person not have it.

Last cruise I didn't get a call, but I did get an email telling me I had to call within 24 hours, and use a certain code. It was probably 2-3 weeks prior to sail date. I didn't have a PVP then, but I do now, so maybe that will make a difference.

Red, I would say book the oceanview...at only $100 more than inside, that's a no-brainier. You can check as it gets closer to cruise time to see what the cost would be to upgrade to a balcony. If you are already in an OV, the upgrade would be less than if you had an inside cabin. Good luck!

I booked an oceanview for this cruise. I'm hoping when it gets closer to sail date, they might offer a balcony at a reduced rate. That happened my last time on Carnival, but there's no guarantee of course.

The cruise I have booked for Dec. 6 on Carnival Splendor was also a casino rate. I can't explain why, since I do not spend a lot in the casino. I only play slots, and usually only about $20 at a time. If I lose it I quit. But besides giving me a good rate, they gave me $25 in casino cash.

Just booked a 4-night Bahamas on Norwegian Sky for 12/5/16. Got a solo balcony for $609. Doesn't sound that great but it includes a free beverage package, which I intend to make use of. First time booking on NCL, see how I like it on a short run. Most other dates were much higher.

It helps if you get a Personal Vacation Planner at the individual cruise line. Then, if you see a deal you think you like, you can call your PVP and he/she will tell you if they can do better for you. I found out the hard way about this on the cruise I booked for this December. I called the PVP after I had actually booked it myself. She told me if I had checked with her, she could have gotten me the same deal, but with price protection added. Right now I have no price protection. [emoji31]

I haven't heard of it either...is it one of those things where they try to match you up with a compatible roommate? I think most lines have done away with that, probably because you can't please everybody.

I don't know if you consider this a bargain or not, but I just did a mock booking on the Royal Caribbean website for a 14-day transatlantic on Vision of the Seas from Tampa to Barcelona, 4/16/16 sailing, solo Large Interior stateroom, $1342, plus $85 port fees and $89 if you want travel insurance. RCCL is having a 30% off sale, claiming that this is $578 cheaper than their normal fare. The regular (smaller) interior staterooms were sold out.
