  1. Another plus is knowing everyone on board most likely won't get sick.
  2. The one that takes over a week to get the results. It may not be 100%, but it's damn close. The one that's, at best, 80% accurate gives you results in less than 48 hours. I got that information from Dr. Robert Murphy, who is a professor of infectious disease at Northwestern University`s Feinberg School of Medicine and the executive director of The Institute for Global Health. He appears daily on the morning news on WGN in Chicago.
  3. Focusing on the part I highlighted in red: There are 2 tests. One you get back quickly, but is only about 80% accurate. Good example of its inaccuracy is what happened to Matthew Stafford when he had a false positive. The test that is 100% accurate takes many days to come back. So if they do want to test, they'll need to deal with the outcomes of passengers who get false positives and appropriately reimburse any and all losses. IMO, what they should do is have the passengers get tested by their own doctor prior to the cruise and have the passenger provide documentat
  4. A "dinner cruise" on the Spirit of Chicago is nothing at all like a real cruise..... plus the food sucks.
  5. So when did Chicago get a cruise port?? I've here my entire life and I never knew we had one!!!
  6. The current issues notwithstanding, I've never had any issues with Seattle. Love the city and it's a place my wife I would love to retire to one day.
  7. I know you didn't ask me, but I think so. I think by April actually.
  8. If it's the drug that was developed by Oxford, AstraZeneca is already in production. They expect to nearly 2 billion doses ready to go by mid-October. 400 million of which is earmarked to the US and UK. if it passes and the FDA approves, they'll be ready to go as soon as "the day after" approval.
  9. Unfortunately, there are far too many of them.
  10. Very true. As I said, it's only a suspicion on our part. And according to our family physician, she's expecting a vaccine to be available late November/early December. I'd be curious to know what others' doctors are saying...
  11. My wife and I strongly suspect we were infected in early March after attending C2E2. We both were feeling ill a couple of weeks later, but nothing serious. Are we 100% sure? No, but the timing was suspect. We'll know soon enough though when my wife is sure to be tested prior to upcoming surgery.
  12. To follow up what up what you just mentioned: Celebrity and the other cruise lines that operate out the of US have all stated they'll follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC to ensure safe cruising for the passengers and crew. As of right now, we do not know what those guidelines might be, but it's reasonable to expect that passengers being vaccinated and masks being used as a requirement to sail.
  13. My wife and I have a cruise booked for October of 2021and we both fully intend to be vaccinated. Period. What other people do is on them.
  14. The OP only mentioned Covid-19, no other disease or ailment. And that's the vaccine being discussed. Bringing up the flu or anything else is not taking the pandemic seriously.
  15. Wearing a helmet protects you, as does wearing a mask.
  16. You most certainly were comparing, otherwise why even mention then flu? Especially in a thread where the discussion is about a vaccine for Covid-19.
  17. If you want to take the risk, fine, but by not wearing a mask is potentially risking the lives of others. Something I'll never do. I'll wear a mask to not only protect me but others as well. That's the responsible thing to do. Just like getting vaccinated for childhood diseases, or wearing a seatbelt, or attending a muster drill, or even wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle.
  18. Illinois is up because Gov. Pritzker is making establishments enforce it. To the tune of a $2,500 fine if they allow people in without a mask. That was the problem with bars and restaurants was allowing larger groups of people than was mandated, so Pritzker is no longer playing games. Good for him.
  19. Smoking is a choice, catching Covid is not. 1.35 million people are killed on roadways worldwide. 800,000 people die from suicide every year. I could go on and on and on, but so what? Smoking, driving, committing suicide.... you cannot "catch" those by being breathed on by someone. You cannot spread those unknowingly to someone else. Trying to use the deaths of something else does NOT lessen the danger of Covid-19. So people really need to just stop by saying, "Yeah, but..." By the way, IQR is 67–87 years. My wife is 73 and I'm 57. So, yeah, I take this stuff seriously.
  20. Just like wearing a seat belt when flying infers a risk? Just like getting a shot from polio or chicken pox infers a risk? Just like going to a muster drill infers a risk? Shall I continue...?
  21. This is NOTHING at all like the flu. And I wish people would stop comparing it to the flu. This year 39,000,000 – 56,000,000 people caught the flu resulting in 24,000 – 62,000 deaths (figures taken directly from CDC's site). Whereas there has been approximately 5.1 million people who have caught Covid in the US with 164,000+ dying. Comparing Covid-19 with the flu is dangerous and ignorant. By the way, global deaths from influenza for 2019 were approximated at 389,000 (uncertainty range 294 000-518 000). In 2017 the upper range was your figure, with the lower range being 290,000,
  22. Why not? This is a pandemic. Keeping people healthy and safe and alive is what matters. 725,000 dead worldwide is no joke. Getting a polio shot is required before going to school, it should be the same with any covid vaccine.
  23. Simply put, yes I would wear a mask. Why? Because I care about my health and the health of others. Period. And I'd wear one even after I've been vaccinated, too. Why? Because I care about my health and the health of others. Period.
  24. Very true. One way or the other, I personally feel that only people who been vaccinated should be allowed on a cruise or out of the country. And they need to provide proof.
  25. It will be very easy to monitor. For those who get vaccinated, they get their passport stamped. I your passport doesn't have one, sorry, you go nowhere! The thing is, people will rail against ANY supposed "attack on their rights!" Even if it's for the greater good.
