  1. Thank You everyone for the responses.

We are getting a slightly better deal on the Royal Princess or Golden Princess earlier in the month but it seems to be docking at Glacier Bay instead of cruising it...I guess that would entail paying for an excursion to get the scenic views?

  2. Thank You all for the response....I missed the mark on these and now have some different options(all in a balcony with 3 adults in a room)

    1) Celebrity Millennium- Alaska Northern Glacier Cruise Vancouver RT (Inside Passage, Sitika, Juneau, Ketchikan, Inside Passage)

    2) Royal Princess-Alaska Gulf Northbound Vancouver to Whittier (Vancouver, sailing, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay cruising, College Fjord cruising, Whittier)

    3) Celebrity Solstice: Alaska Glacier Cruse Seattle to Vancouver (Seattle, sailing, ketchikan, endicott arm, Juneau, Skagaway, Alaska Inside Passage, At Sea, Victoria, Vancouver)

    Any suggestions appreciated...

Also for the 3rd would you do a upper berth or sofa bed?

  3. My dad has decided he wants to go on an Alaska cruise for this year's birthday boys trip. We will be three adult males looking for more of a relaxing vacation vs an adrenaline pumping vacation. We have cruised out of Galveston before but never been on an Alaska cruise.

Having read some of the posts on here it seems that it is best to do a one-way cruise (we are limited to 7 days) so I have come up with these:

    1) Noordam: Vancouver, Inside Passage (cruising), Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay National Park, At Sea, Seward

    2) Golden Princess: Anchorage, Hubbard (cruising), Glacier Bay National Park (cruising), Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, At sea, Vancouver

    3) Norwegian Jewel: Seward, Hubbard (cruising), Icy Straight Point, Juneau, Ketchikan, At Sea, Vancouver)

Q-1) Which one would you recommend for a first time Alaska (hope to do more Alaska cruises down the line).

Q-2) Would you recommend one room for the three of us (balcony or JS or two (inside and outside)

I am sure I will have a million questions for thank you in advance

  4. Attending will save you and your fellow passengers more time than you think unless you are too special.

Yes. They do have a brig.

Yes. They have made side trips to drop off those passengers who underestimated the ship masters authority.

Last time was two cruises ago. Many of the passengers were on deck at one in the morning to see us make a 20 minute pit stop in the Azores.

Two medical emergency passengers left in waiting ambulances.

And two shoplifters were left to their own resources to make their own way home.

    Relax. Enjoy your vacation.

Shouldn’t the shoplifters have been handed over to the authorities?

  5. We are "of that age", and we get our travel insurance through www.TripInsuranceStore.com

They sell policies from several vetted insurers (no extra cost).

What we get is from Travel Insured, and they have paid a couple of relatively large claims with no nonsense.

But you should ask Steve (owner, or one of his associates).

They'll ask you about the cost of the trip, and about several choices (and the costs), and help you/your father to make the right choice.

NOTE: For some types of coverage, one needs to start the coverage within something like 10-20 days (varies with insurer/policy type) of the FIRST deposit payment.

IF you've "missed that" already, there is another choice that requires starting coverage (actually, insuring all or most of the trip) within 24 hours of the "final payment" (defined narrowly, of course).

We also add an annual policy with MedJetAssist, which would handle any medevac if one of us were *admitted* to a hospital at least 150 miles of home. The good thing about this is that you get to make the decision, not any beancounters, etc. They also have a "per trip" policy, but the annual coverage is better for us, as it covers more than one large trip, plus any business/personal travel of more than 150 miles from home, just in case (e.g., if we are across country, and hospitalized and want to be medevac'd to "our" hospital/doctors).

    Thanks

This seems to be travel insurance and I am looking to get medical coverage—is that the same coverage?

  6. Great observation, I would say bit the bullet if I felt I HAD to book an old ship like Majesty or pay the crazy money to be one of the first on any of the new ships but Liberty is a solid choice,

    enjoy!

Hi--- by biting the bullet I meant have have no idea what to expect. My only other cruise was on the Carnival Liberty and we had a balcony. It was too hot to sit in the balcony or by the pool areas but I am hoping December will be a good time to lounge by the pool. Plus, I did not have much of an idea about the Liberty of the Seas when I booked but saw some YT videos and it seems like a great ship!

  7. Deck 8 is good -- 2 decks above you and below you of cabins and not public areas. Note that the "back" elevators are really more in the middle of the ship. It can seem like a long walk to the elevators if your cabin is near the back of the ship. Also, elevators on this ship are slower and more full than other ships we've taken -- because there are more passengers but the same elevator space as the voyager class. Plus, the liberty has been refurbished with more cabins added, making even more passengers. I do wish RCI could find a way to add more elevators. It's really not a bad walk up 3 flights of stairs to deck 11 (the buffet and pool) or down 3 flights to deck 5 (the royal promenade) -- the distance between the cabin floors is smaller than between public area floors.

Thank You. With all of the eating on board we can do with using the stairs to get where we want :) I am just hoping that there is no sea sickness

  8. This happened to me yesterday and I immediately called Customer Service, they said the promo code dropped out and they fixed it (they emailed me an invoice). I still owe the gratuities and it is past final payment date and I tried online to remove them but it keeps reverting back. Do I need to call them again and have them move it to my on-board account?

  9. Very good read, and timely, as we are taking it two teenage son's on Allure for spring break. I wanted to get two cabins, but the wife was nervous having them in their own room in their first time it if the country.

They are probably too old for most of the kids club stuff (14,16), so will have to find other ways to get them to vacate for an hour or two most days.

Lol, if they are like most teenage boys they'd be trying to get YOU to vacate the room so they can bring someone over
