  1. I'm doing an B2b starting next week.

For the first week I had a Fantasia Balcony booked.

I logged on last night to look at the cost of the thermal spa for the week and after I purchased it, I noticed that my cabin number had changed from dec 11 to deck 15 I was a little miffed at first  because i had booked one of the large balconies and didn't want to be moved but when I looked up the cabin number 15034, I saw it was in the YC.:D

This morning I received new e docs confirming that I have been upgraded to the YC for the first week.:D I am already booked in the YC for the second week.

Now I'm even more excited for my cruise next week!

I guess I will have to call and cancel the drink package and thermal spa passes that I booked for that week.:D

    Hi Lois

We have been given a free upgrade to YC too! Can you give me your views on it and how was it? We have brought a drinks package, not sure we need it now though???

  2. You're going with a great attitude - I'm sure (and hope) you will have a wonderful cruise - YC is fantastic! Your drinks package inclusion is bound to be honoured so you can enjoy the bars and lounges outside of the YC area too. I've been in YC and it's nowhere near as snobby as my experience in a suite on Celebrity. We ended up dining in the main dining room on that one - even though they had a dedicated restaurant for suite guests - something I never even contemplated doing on 3 YC cruises - in fact, we took most of our meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner in the YC restaurant.

    Enjoy your upgrade! ;)

Here's another link you may find useful:

Oh, thanks again! you can't beat advice from people who have actually had the experience! lol

If you are YC does that mean you do not eat in the other dining areas then?

Incidentally, my favorite Cruise was with Celebrity :) it was an amazing cruise but not YC lol

  3. You don't say what you've experienced before or if you originally booked a Bella, Fantastica or Aurea 'Experience' balcony. Also, you've had your cabin upgraded but not the "Experience".

Here's a link to what the 'Experiences' are:

According to one poster who got an upgrade to YC you won't get the perks of YC. I've no idea what 'perks' they didn't get as I can't imagine you won't get butler-assisted (priority) boarding for instance. Also, YC is a separate area on the ship so I can't see from where perks could be withdrawn. Perhaps the free mini-bar perk will be withheld  It'll require someone else who received this upgrade to answer this.

    Many thanks for your reply.

We booked a Fantastica cabin with benefits. As I say we also already have an all inclusive drinks package.

We have done 9 cruises, our first was an inside cabin (this was all that was available) after the cruise we said we would always be happy as long as we had a balcony in future. We did one cruise in outside cabin as no balconies on ship, and that was fine. One cruise our cabin was on the stern, last cabin available, not so keen on that.

To be honest we have often found a huge amount of snobbery attached to cruising and so much comparing of ships and cruise lines. Personally I feel totally privileged to be able to cruise and love it. We have numerous holidays a year and I feel so people complaints totally crazy, but we are all different. This will be a first with MSC and am soooooo looking forward to it whatever it brings. I will read your attachment with interest, thank you very much.

  4. I have a balcony cabin booked on Splendida in March with an all inclusive drinks package on deck 10. Found out yesterday we have been given a free upgrade to a YC suite on deck 16, guess I should be happy? 1st time cruising with MSC. What is different about YC to what we had?

  5. Oh thanks for the response goody1, that's great news.

We have the option of the same drinks package, sounds good.

Haven't even looked at the formal nights part as yet! Hoping to be able to get my lovely cruise dresses out though! I am assuming there will be a few dickie bows on the ship? lol

thanks again for the useful reply

  6. I am almost at the point of booking our first MSC cruise in March 2017 from Genoa on the Splendida. Have previously sailed with Fred Olsen, P&O, Thomsons, Princess, HAL, Celebrity.

Have chosen this particular cruise for the ports of call.

Now that I have delved into it more the ship is larger than I would like, but as long as there are not too many kids which I am hoping in March there won't be, I can cope! Also review suggest the ship is well organised for getting on and off etc.

But what I am most interested in is the amount of English speaking passengers on board. I am happy not to have too many Brits (badly behaved ones anyway! lol) but as we are from the UK would like to have a few people to chat to!! Our Celebrity cruise was to the med and was mainly passengers from USA and Canada which suited us well.

Also is an all inclusive drinks package worth having?

Any advice or suggestions GREATLY received.

    Thanks in advance

    Clare

  7. Did you feel safe walking in Bridgetown?

We have been into Bridegtown a couple of times now, the last time we walked through the port terminal and along the waterfront for about half and hour, everyone was very friendly. When we were nearly back to port we came across a fish market, my husband is a commercial fisherman and they welcomed us in and allowed us to walk around and watch the comings and goings, the speed they gutted these tiny fish was amazing, it was a lovely experience.

  8. Sorry forgot to mention, we have only ever done this when staying at a hotel within Gatwick or Heathrow airport, the additional cost in getting to and from the airport would mean we wouldn't bother.

We worked out the cost once before, a stay at Travelodge was going to be £78 and a friend who had done this before told me her taxi cost £23 on day of flight! and we paid £92 for a night at the Soffitel so sums done there was no comparison and totally stress free!

We are happy to pay a little more for the hotel in airport as our circumstances are such that it is the best way to start a stress free holiday!

  9. Hi

We are going on Azura on 21st. Feb. flying from Gatwick and arriving by train on 20th Feb. Hotel near airport. Can you tell me how you do the "bag drop" check in.

    Thank you

    Martyn

    Hi

We have done a bag drop 3 times now and it's great!

Due to a long journey to London once we are at the airport hotel it's wine

and nibbles, shower and dependant on bag drop opening times we either drop bags and have dinner or dinner and then bag drop. We then have the rest of the evening to chill out and relax. Obviously next day we do not have to be up quite so early so we just have security to deal with and then a leisurely breakfast.

Each time we have done this has been when flying with BA and I am very happy to be flying with them again in January and hope that we will be able to do the early drop again! It's fab!:D

  10. Hi

Does any one know why you now have to check in at Gatwick 4 hours before the flight time to go to Barbados. We are travelling on the 7th Februay 2013. In the past we had to check in 3 hours before.

Can I ask where you heard that? I have not been notified of this.

We have a long trip up to London from Cornwall and always stay over night now at a hotel within the airport which we choose to do by train. We have found that this works well for us in that we are 'onsite' with no worries of getting to airport on the day of flight, we have worked out the added costs of transport from hotels to airport on the day of flight and in many cases has made it more expensive than paying for an airport hotel in the first place, but the best thing has been that for the last 3 years we have been able to check our luggage in the night before :D so I am hoping this will be the case in January. Our flight is at 9.30am so if we can check our bags in the night before we will go through passport control and onto the new Jamie Oliver eatery, looking forward to it already!:D

  11. Many thanks to everyone for your great insight, since posting this thread my better half realized that the dates for Ventura did not sit well with work , so we have had to switch to the Azura the dates matched well and as my better half really wanted an aft cabin we have booked E735, I mentioned it was above the manhatten but we are not concerned as we have no intention of being in bed early , and the beam intrusion is of no worry either as the balcony is slightly larger , so 24th Jan 2014 cant come soon enough :D

Not wanting to put a spanner in the works, we had an aft cabin last year and were plagued with soot from the funnel the whole trip. Rail, chairs and table were always dirty. Additionally you could never 'see' the port properly without going out on deck. Wouldn't go with an aft cabin again. Maybe worth asking about? Sorry to mention it.
