  1. I sailed Cunard back in high school on the Countess.  Was very much like NCL at the time but do see Cunard now days probably not our thing.  That trip had a nearby high school on spring break trip.  Census showed 47 girls and 3 guys.  One and only time I've had odds that good.

Did have Cunard as backup plan in 2012 to get to Europe when Iceland ash was causing flight issues.  Luckily didn't have to use it but nonetheless delayed one day due to weather at connecting airport.

Sounds like busy rest of year.  A backup, ready to go Base Station Zebra may be a consideration.

  2. Which suite are you in?  Maybe we can check recent pics.

Overall, they've been getting rid of them with move to ppv on demand and free for suites.  Nice variety, usually 75-100 movies.  Regular TV not so good.

We sailed Sun once long time ago.  Had great time.  Note buffet not big but space outside and in front of sports bar.  Front lounge also nice.

Unfortunately sometimes you just need to bang on the right doors. A number of years back my wife and I were on the Dawn for a 7 day cruise. Day one our room steward tells us the refrigerator is not working. Not a huge problem but I do like keeping drinks in there. Before we left port I went to guest services, told them the issue and I got a lot of nods. One day later nothing has happened so I go back down to GS. Now they tell me it can't be fixed and they don't have any replacements, OK.... guess will have to live with it. We receive a cheap bottle of wine. Later that afternoon we are invited in the Captains cocktail party which we attend. While standing around with a drink in our hands who comes over to us and ask how our cruise is going? The Captain and maybe even better yet the hotel director. I give the hotel director the cliff notes version of the story, the Captain doesn't look too pleased. He asked for our names and cabin number. I kid you not, by the time we got back to our cabin 20 minutes later not only was the fridge fixed.... it was brand new Lol

We had similar experience, twice.  First was POA in an OS doing a TransPac to Hawaii.  One day cancelled due to drydock not done.  Got on, butler says whirlpool on balcony not working, work request was in.  I don't recall exactly how much longer, maybe day three still not working.  Happened to be walking out by pool deck and see Klaus who I've always heard great things about but we never sailed with.    Mentioned it to him and fixed within the hour.  May not sound like an issue but we partially picked that room over others for whirlpool.  I expect things to be working in the room.

Second was Spirit in an OS.  Shower put out a trickle.  Mentioned to butler first night.  Next day at Lats party mentioned it to either HD or Maintenance.  Even had a CC member see room and showed shower output.  Thought it was funny.  By dinner, still nothing went to Captain's party.  At line entering was Captain and Concierge.  He happened to ask how things were going so I took the opportunity to let him know what happened.  Concierge went pale.  Shower fixed by time we went back to the room.

I will say we see very few maintenance issues here, so not a widespread problem I'd say.  Way back Dawn was known for leaky pipes but no reports in years.

My opinion is the YC Inside cabin was perfect for me when I cruised solo.  Do not know if I could share.  I took up the whole closet and it did feel a little small.  The shower and bathroom was not luxurious as I had previously in NCL Haven.

But the price, even at 200% for solo, was worth it and I would do it again.

So you've gone to the dark side I see away from NCL.  MSC does have some yc non solo upcharge sailings.

  5. Sailed Spirit twice.  While oldest ship in fleet, one of our faves.

While no Haven, suite experience pretty good.

Nice layout, buffet action stations.  Last drydock removed Asian theme but looks very nice.  Been running the Trans Pacific route with high prices.

Can't say if good for contemporary cruisers because I have no idea what that means.  Sorry for off your question.

I certainly notice differences in menus over time. I certainly notice changes from cruise to cruise. Some of our favorite foods (not hasbrowns or cookies) have disappeared over time.  BUT,,, that does not mean that all of the changes are bad. And I am able to pick an great meal from every menu (MDR and Specialty).

Food waste is a big cost for the cruise line. NCL stopped the midnight chocolate buffets when passenger interest dwindled and when they were throwing 10,000 lbs of chocolate overboard from the event every week. Any foods cooked and held for over 4 hours are dumped overboard. So,,, maybe reducing the soup count saves 100's of gallons of soup each week from becoming fish foods. Last week, we stopped at the buffet around closing time nightly for some fresh fruit and ice cream. And it is always sad to watch those freshly made pizzas put out at 9:25 being thrown into a trash can at 9:30 along with all of the other foods on display.

Most of the pizza last ten years, especially at the now not late night buffet, were wasted the moment they made them as they were junk.  Dough, more dough, bit of sauce and cheese.  Maybe if high quality would mean less waste.  Garbage in, garbage out via the chopper.

Thanks for all the great info in this thread. Planning family cruise next June 2025 on the POA.  We have a large group and I’m sure each family will go their own way at each port. Any suggestions for excursions not through NCL that anyone would recommend?  I think the excursions through NCL are going to be out of most of our families budgets.  Walking tours, botanical gardens, hiking? Luaus?  thanks in advance. Appreciate it!!

Smith's for the luau.  Can rent car or they'll bus you for a fee.

The response was if, when visiting Nassau, should the ship list the phone number of the Russian embassy because there are a lot of Russian citizens as passengers on the cruise?  Or since 20% of the passengers are from the UK, should the ship list the British embassy number?

The point being that there are more people on the ship beyond Americans. On a recent cruise I was on out of Miami, US citizens were less than 25% of the passengers onboard.

That's because they are the contemporary cruisers.

  9. If it is Prima, never noticed any issues with movement aft although we were pretty high up on 12.  We did spend a fair amount of time in lower decks and no issue.

We sailed when just out and noticed lots of creaking in the room even in fairly calm seas, thought it was very odd for that much creak vs any other ship we've been on.  Then more reports started coming.  Didn't affect sleeping.

  10. PrivaSea is a marketing term created for your convenience, of course.

They used to be called hull balconies and you are right, they are at the front or back.  Basically metal around sides, top, and bottom with large opening in the center.

Reminds me of the newlywed who got on the Dawn and discovered they had a hull balcony only to have bride collapse onto the bed and cry the whole trip.  If you have one of these booked, perhaps you could do vow renewal and recreate the seven day crying experience.  Video required.
