I am not sure this is what you are looking for, but take a look at an Orbis It uses an ordinary strobe to make a ring flash or beauty dish. I have been using one for some soft fill in portraits.

We were there last summer, and I guesstimate that 90% of my shots were taken with my Canon 24-105 lens on a full frame camera. I never felt the need for a long telephoto. The images are here.

I tried my first time lapse from a moving ship last year, and when I do it again, I am going to use a 2 second interval. I used a 1 minute interval for some of the harbor cloud sequences and that was also too long. Video is here:https://vimeo.com/65854772

LOL. I Don't think one has to be a SOCAL native to think -11 degrees is stupid cold. Maryland has been cold, but not that cold. This is yesterday's ice storm after the skies cleared.

It was interesting. And seemingly quite true. It also might be called click and run vs. working the shot.

That is a very nice job. Nice constant exposure with no flicker. The only thing is that I would straighten the horizon.

Hmm, I too have considered that idea. One lens. On our most recent cruise to the Mediterranean, I used my 24-105 for 73% of the pictures. I used a 16-35 for 22% of the images. The remainder were taken with my EOSm. I believe that I would have been quite happy with just the 24-105. I think I will use the same 2 lens on our next cruise to South America. However, if we ever do another Alaskan cruise, the long telephoto will be in the kit. I believe it boils down to the type of cruise, and the kind of images you want.

I also carry an external flash, a smallish 430ex. I find I use it mostly teamed with the EOSm for the obligatory dinner companion pics.

I recommend spending some quality time (say the first sea day on your cruise) with a good basic book on photography. I am partial to "Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson."

A word of warning, his goal is to get you off of "P" and into "M."

Ok, it is not a cruise ship as we think of it, but the guided missile destroyer, the USS Barry was also in the Port of Piraeus.

Yup. I am gong to guess that all pre-industrial cities have their narrow winding streets. And, on our last cruise, by the time we wandered them in Rome, we had had enough of the crowds.

I haven’t participated in this forum much recently. It has been a crazy summer of lots of work and travel. I will be around more often.

While I certainly didn’t take these today, they are from the last couple of months with trips to Barcelona, Spain a Mediterranean cruise and time in Bar Harbor, Maine.
