  1. My wife and I spent a few hours at the Gettysburg battlefield area yesterday. A fascinating and moving place. The first is looking south from Plum Run to the Peach Orchard, and the second is the statue of General Warren on the summit of Little Round Top. Gettysburg is only a little over an hour's drive from our home and we will visit it more often.

  2. Cindy,

While I was editing this, I noticed Justin posted a perfect explanation. Anyway, this may help some more.

The “Sunny 16” rule is an old rule of thumb for getting close to the correct exposure on a sunny day. The aperture is set at f16 and the shutter speed is set equivalent to one over the ISO. If the ISO is 200, the shutter speed you will set is 1/200 second. That combination should give you a decent exposure of a subject in bright sun light.

In this case Justin is referring to the fact that the moon is a subject in bright sun light. To get a proper exposure, set your camera like you were taking a photo in broad daylight. If you simply meter the moon in the black sky you will get nothing but a totally white orb in a black sky. (Unless you use a powerful spot meter right on the moon.)

  3. Nice work Roff - I prefer the ominous trees - though I don't know if that's a sign of my personality! ;)

Dileep - love the geese...that would be some sight to see that many taking flight at once - I wish I was in a bit more of a migration cross path like that.

LOL. I kind of like the dark trees better also. And, ditto on Dileep's photo. Nice one. Reminds me of scenes from the NOVA series.
