  1. If only more people could appreciate the beauty of the Mexican Riviera. We live in Manzanillo during the winter and it is wonderful. Great food, great people and the weather is awesome. No crime in our area- just peace and quiet. It's a shame that the people who rely on tourism are suffering because we are told to fear Mexico. Keep spreading the word that this is a lovely place to unwind and enjoy life.
  2. We had a wonderful time with Randi and are saddened to hear this. Any news on her condition?
  3. Let me get this straight- it was a few people out of 22 who were on a excursion who were mugged on a trail? I always enjoy getting the rest of the story but unfortunately it will not be corrected on any news station.
  4. It is "cold" in the morning, about 72, but it heats up to about 85 by noon. Yesterday was cloudy and 80 but it is clearing today. Considering the weather in Green Bay is 4" of snow, sleet, rain and 20 degrees- I guess I will suffer through a few clouds. :) Ocean temps are great- you can jump right in.
  5. I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed Manzanillo. Many cruisers don't bother to leave the port area and then complain that Manzanillo is awful and why do ships stop here. Tourism is way down and it is great to have the ships here to give these hard working people some business so I hope the good reviews continue. Today we had the best fish tacos ever. We each had 2 tacos and the total was about $2 U.S. Went to happy hour at the Oasis Ocean Club. 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine. Approx. $7 U.S. including the tip. :) And I agree, get some pesos, you should get about a 13-1 exchange rate, vendors will usually give you 10-1 on the beach. (but they will take US dollars)
  6. Uh-oh. Shooting at the Sheboygan, Wisconsin Wal-Mart left one dead, one injured. Meanwhile, I went to the Manzanillo Wal-Mart and came home alive:) Good thing I don't shop at Wal-Mart when I'm in the US, I could get killed.
  7. This reminds me of my dad on his first cruise, he was 78. We went to the buffet for our embarkation meal. All of us were seated and eating except dad. I went looking for him and found him wandering around looking for the cashier. He didn't want to eat until he had paid! Trust me, dad, you have already paid;) He loved the idea of a "free" all you can eat buffet so much it was all we could do to get him to try a different restaurant each day. :)
  8. We went snorkeling with Susan from Gomanzanillo and had a great time. We went on the ziplines with Danitours, here is a video that my husband made featuring me, our daughter and son-in-law. This was my first time ziplining, I had the camera on my helmet for the action shots. I'm guessing the tour with gomanzanillo will be similar.
  9. Playa Miramar is ready and waiting! It will be much busier on Dec 21, we are enjoying the peace and quiet.
  10. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=%2Fc%2Fa%2F2011%2F08%2F18%2FTR3O1KLPOQ.DTL#ixzz1VmED3BQL Those of us who live here full or part-time are happy to see the facts coming out, not just fear mongering. You are actually safer in Mexico than any toursist destination in the US. Come on down to Mexico- the weather is great, food is tasty and the exchange rate is very favorable. :)
  11. Our house is on Playa Miramar. We've been here 2 weeks and the weather has been beautiful every day! Overcast and mid-70's in the morning, highs in the mid 80's and abundant sunshine in the afternoon. Not many people on the beach yet but lots of cleaning up going on to get ready for tourist season. It will be all ready for the cruise ships- bring your pesos and enjoy:)
  12. At this time tomorrow I will be in Manzanillo for the next 3 months! Let me know if you want me to check on anything for you.
  13. http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/11/25/9012057-black-friday-violence-2-shot-in-armed-robberies-15-others-pepper-sprayed We are leaving today to spend 3 months in Mexico, it is far too dangerous to shop in the U.S.
  14. Yes, taxis are plentiful and they will be all over the port area. There will be some vendors at the pier who offer beach/shopping tours in vans or busses if you want to wait until you get there to arrange something. Shopping in Manzanillo is not that great so this is not to port to plan on buying much other than drinks and food! www.gomanzanillo.com has some great resources for excursions if you are interested in non-ship sponsored tours.
  15. Taxis are plentiful as this is along the main drag. They will take as many people as will fit in a cab but most of the cars are pretty small. (3-4 passengers). I would suggest finding a bigger cab or van when you get there and arranging for him to pick you up at a certain time if he seems trustworthy. We will be there in one week- the weather has bee 85ish every day but they had a cold snap yesterday and it only got to 75. It is 20 in Wisconsin this morning...
