  1. Hi All,

I sailed the Victory last year and had a great time. I have kind of a soft spot for Destiny class ships as my first cruise was on the Destiny. I have since cruise on the Destiny 2 more times and both the Triumph and the Victory.

My latest cruise on the Victory was the western route with stops in Key West and Cozumel, which I think is a very nice short cruise!

Anyhow, I must respectfully disagree about Grand Turk. While I have not cruised there, I have been there on several land vacations and found the island to be one of the most beautiful I've visited... particularly if you like snorkeling or scuba diving. The reefs are spectacular.

Perhaps you'll need to get away from the cruise port... as I said, I have not cruised there.

    Best Regards,

  2. I too was one of the lucky ones who got the free cruise letter. Actually, maybe it was my wife as we are both past guests on Carnival.

We ended up booking a 4 night Victory cruise in June. The inside room was "Free" except for port charges of $145 for two people. We upgraded to a balcony for and additional charge of $80. Even more amazing was that they premium balconies... Aft and Aft Wrap were included in the $80 upcharge!

I just looked up the cost for the same aft cabin category for our cruise and saw that it was $1900 for two!

I guess the rooms are filling up now!

    Cheers....

  3. We also got the free cruise letter.... almost tossed it without opening it, as we thought it was a typical past guest letter.

It's not that we don't look at all the letters Carnival send to past guests, it just that we already have two major vacations planned (we leave Saturday for an 8 night RCI cruise!) so we weren't in the market for another.

Well, after seeing it was for a "free" cruise (and skeptically looking for the catch!) we decided it was too good a deal to pass up. I have very limited vacation flexibility, so looked at shorter cruises, though there were *many* 7 and 8 night cruises available.

We chose a 4 night cruise on the Victory to Key West and Cozumel on June 5th, 2014 (one of our favorite itineraries having sailed on the Destiny there on two previous occasions). The deal was for an interior room free - just pay the port charges and taxes, about $165 for the two of us. We upgraded to an aft wrap balcony on deck 7 for an addition $80 for a total of about $245.

You could also upgrade to a suite or add additional passengers to the same room, but at much higher rates than the upgrade to the balcony.

Apparently, the letters were sent to prior Carnival cruisers with past guest accounts who haven't cruised on Carnival for a while. We've been on 6-7 Carnival cruises over the last 14 years (my wife probably had a couple prior cruise before that) with the last one being probably 4 years ago.

Great deal! We've always loved the Carnival product but have been sailing RCI lately (3 cruises in the last 4 years) mostly because my 10 year old son is addicted to the Flowriders on the RCI ships. This time he can stay home!

Good luck to all in redeeming their free cruises and hopefully lots more letters will be sent out!

    Best Regards,

  4. Hi All,

We're planning to hit Maho beach during our cruise stop to watch the planes... my 10 year old has seen the youtube vids and really wants to see them first hand.

We'd also like to spend some beach time and enjoy a drink or two and perhaps lunch. My question is whether there are bathroom facilities (*NOT* portapotties) at either Mullet or Maho beaches? I could live with almost anything, my wife?? Not so much!

Thanks for all the great info on this site!

  5. Hi All,

My family and I will be headed to Ft Lauderdale for a cruise in February. We are arriving two nights early (Thursday - cruise leaves on Saturday) and looking for and iteniary for Friday.

We are staying at the Embassy Suites on 17th and will not have a rental car.

It the weather is nice, I'd like to hit the beach in the morning and then maybe hop on the water taxi to see a few sights or shops and grab a late lunch somewhere fun... with great food of course. Any suggestions? My wife like the typical shopping venues and I would mind finding a sport fishing shop or outfitter to look around. It would be great to find a restaurant with outdoor seating (weather permitting) and not solely a seafood place (10 year old son is allergic to shellfish).

Any thoughts?? I have only been to FLL once and the weather was pretty lousy, so we pretty much hung out at the hotel.

    Thanks and Best Regards!

    Giusman
