  1. I’m Elite Plus. According to rigorous calculations, I will achieve Zenith status exactly 6.5 days after my 104th birthday! I’m planning to celebrate my birthday in Michael’s Club because celebrating my birthday in our usual inside cabin is pretty tight. One of these days I’m going to spring for a cabin with a balcony. I’ve read those cabins are really nice!

Can't help with window-washer location, but have stayed in 8046 and the larger angled balcony is nice.  However, that larger balcony makes the balcony in 8048 not-private (right next to the angled balcony). The person standing at the edge of the 8046 balcony can look right on to the balcony in 8048.  I would not stay in 8048.

Prefer the "sweet-16" cabins to either of these.

Can you tell me where to find a list of the sweet sixteen cabins on Summit?

    Thank you!

  3. By chance, does anyone know where the window washing platform is

    located on deck 8? We’re considering a C2, 8046 and 8048. Back in 2015, the window washing

platform was outside 8048, ruining the aft view for both of those cabins. Anyone have more

    up to date information?

  4. Buyer beware! So true. I’ve been buying travel insurance for cruises for over thirty years. Never had a claim. I believe overconfidence was my downfall. I thought I knew what I was buying, but apparently not well enough. On the way home from our last cruise, I became seriously ill and hospitalized before we could make it home. Here’s the mistake I made. Although I was covered by Nationwide through insuremytrip.com for medical, THERE WAS NO COVERAGE FOR MY HUSBAND’S

EXPENSES. Not for his hotel. Nothing. Indeed, my 1k usd travel policy didn’t even cover his expenses for his trip interruption. Even now, I don’t know if what I think is full coverage for our upcoming cruise actually is full coverage. The devil is in the details. Ugh.

    Hope this helps someone,

    Sharon

  5. My DH and I will land at Heathrow at 8:30am on the day of embarkation from Southampton. Embarkation is at 4:30pm on a weekday. Can anyone guesstimate how long it will take us to get through luggage claim and British Customs? I believe the trip from LHR to Southampton

takes approximately 90 minutes. Can we make the cruise under this timeline?

I’m so grateful for any help,

    Sharon

If that was supposed to touch me in any way, you should actually find a tune that doesn‘t match just about everyone posting here including yourself.

Everyone assumes his perceptions are accurate and applicable to anybody. Everyone thinks his priorities are the highest.

FYI: if Celebrity should cut something I really care for or just loose its appeal, we will simply look for a different cruise line. Without drama here or any expectation that they would change just for me. We are not forced to cruise with them.

If we don’t find a better alternative, Celebrity can’t be that bad.

Really? You just don’t get it, and you never will.

😂 We are Elite plus and also never used or cared for all the things above. Incl. the laundry service although we only do long cruises. On the contrary, we avoid the social hours.

Believe it or not, some people are actually just happy with the travel experience alone.

I must have done a poor job making making my point. Which means, Celebrity might cut something you are interested in.

Here is a catchy tune that sums up your post: It’s all about ME, ME, ME!

    Happy Travels,

We are Elite, and have never once wanted any of those items.  We do spend time in our cabin, relaxing, watching the ocean, reading a book.  We will be boarding again on Friday, and don't anticipate being any less comfortable with the furniture and amenities we have.

I am delighted that you enjoy your cruises without the recently departed footstools. And you don’t care if there’s a table on the balcony or in your cabin. You never order room service anyway. As for free in room movies, they’re a waste when you can enjoy looking at the gorgeous ocean. But, guess what? This is not about footstools or free movies or tables. It’s about things that used to be there, but are not there anymore. By the way, congratulations on soon becoming Elite!

You’ll enjoy the free cocktails in the evening, unless Celebrity decides to change

that, too. And the complementary laundry service... Do enjoy your cruise!

I suspect your $30,000 bill came largely from the hospital, did your travel insurance or your medical insurance cover the hospital bill?  For medical insurance their are probably better and cheaper ways to get that protection than travel insurance.

Good health to you on your future cruises.

I have the kind of Medicare plan that covers a percentage of the cost for non network costs. The rest is my cost, which is where travel insurance comes in handy.

What would a better, cheaper way to get medical protection other than travel insurance?

    Best of health to you,

    Sharon

  10. I want to toss in my little story, too. We’ve done 30+ cruises and bought travel insurance every time, but never used it. Except for the cruise in May of this year.

I suddenly became extremely ill while waiting in the airport for our connecting flight home. I was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, where I stayed for only four days. In that small amount of time, my bill was over $30,000.

Conclusion: Always buy travel insurance, for the same reasons you buy auto insurance or home owners insurance.

Good health to all of us!

  11. Several years ago at breakfast, we sat with an elderly man who ordered a six minute egg. After he was served, he complained to the waiter that he ordered a six minute egg, but he got a four minute egg, which was unacceptable. Next came an eight minute egg. Returned again. While the table was waiting to see what would happen next, the lady sitting next to me, a total stranger, asked if the man wanted something from her plate. He said yes, took her plate, and emptied all of it onto his plate. He returned the empty plate to the lady and started eating her food! My jaw is still on the floor in that dining room.

  12. If you want to smoke anywhere you wish, buy or rent your own yacht. That way, you make up your own rules and smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette.

But, if you choose to cruise with others, you must follow the rules of the cruise line. In this case, NO SMOKING ON BALCONIES OR CABINS. The same rule applies to us all. So, if I see someone break that rule, I will notify guest services immediately. I love being a "tattletale,"

on anyone who is so crass and selfish that they put their own pleasure (or habit) above the health and safety of their fellow passengers.

    Tattletale and Proud of It!

  13. Oh my goodness. Why doesn't everyone just go on their cruise and enjoy and have a good time. Standing on the dock and counting how many smokers there are? Taking pictures and sending them to corporate? Please take pics of the chair hogs, line cutters, elevator rudeness, dining room attire ....on and on. I have better things to do on my vacation....MUCH better things. If you learn to mind your own business, you will have a much better time. Why does one care about what the other one is doing????? HAVE FUN.

NO.....I am not a smoker....but I am not going to stand on the dock and take inventory as to how many people are smoking.

You think that chair hogs and line cutters are equivalent to smokers who break the rules? Obviously, you have no health issues with second hand smoke. Your eyes don't water and your throat doesn't close making it difficult for you to breathe. Nope, you are just fine with smokers. It's the chair hogs who stop you from taking your next breath. Maybe they will throw their placeholder towel at you and give you whiplash?

And why should you care about the health problems of others when the only important thing is that you HAVE FUN?

  14. I have lived outside the United States for many years now so these travel Alerts and warnings are something I have had to deal with for years. You read them and always keep your guard up. Look around notice people and make safety your own issue, understand you are responsible for your safety, don't let anyone put your safety into question. And then just live your life and enjoy your trips.

What you and others are suggesting, that being aware of one's surroundings during travel, is somehow helpful against terror attacks, boggles the mind. Terrorists do an excellent job of blending into the scenery. You won't know about the attack until it's too late to do anything about it. Why not tell the truth? If you choose to travel, you may become a victim of a horrible attack? Then you should decide if you want to chance it. There is no shame in being afraid, but lying to yourself about your chances of escaping a targeted area is cowardly.

    Take care,

    Sharon

  15. So every time a ship sails in this type of weather the company should be investigated. This would be very expensive and kind of silly as this happens all the time.

I know that when I was working in the North Sea it happened to the vessel I was working on four or five times a winter and it was a lot bigger than the fishing boats riding the seas around us.

A marine worker would think your statement kind of strange

You think this kind of thing happens all the time? That cruise ships carrying thousands of passengers and crew routinely sail into this kind of mayhem? Really? I do not believe so many would choose to cruise again and again if when they boarded their cruise ship, they expected to be tossed around to the point where they needed to be confined in their cabins. Calling what happened aboard the Anthem of the Seas "silly" is a real head-scratcher for those concerned with the safety of the public.

  16. As I thought, and Aquahound substantiated, any "investigation" by the USCG or NTSB would be in the way of "assistance" to the flag state agency investigation, not an independent investigation. Allowing another country's agencies to investigate your territory (the ship) without your control would set a precedent regarding sovereignty. Asking for assistance, like the Panamanians did with the Carnival Splendor, involves national pride, showing that "their" agencies are not up to the job. And, as I've said, the USCG and NTSB have stricter regulations than the flag states, which must only meet IMO standards or their own, if higher, so sometimes USCG recommendations on reports like these don't look good, because the USCG sometimes uses their own best practices, which are based on their regulations.

Respectfully, do you understand the issue is not about the jurisdiction of a government agency? The true, unmuddled issue is the need for a transparent investigation of how this cruise ship placed lives in danger. The public deserves to have uncompromising facts.

  17. That's not the question needing to be asked. The question that needs to be asked is why a federal lawmaker doesn't know the law? The NTSB has no jurisdiction over a foreign flag ship operating in international waters. Even if they did have jurisdiction, there was no loss of life, or serious injuries, so what is to investigate. Peruse my posts on the various Anthem storm and investigation threads for more.

How could even the most enthusiastic cruiser be so dense? Whoever put the ship, crew, and passengers in harm's way should be investigated and held accountable for this potentially fatal decision. I'd like to know exactly who made the final decision to go, corporate or the captain. Was due diligence concerning rough weather done before sailing? Facts need to come out to protect the public against negligence. . A NTSB hearing is not just appropriate, but mandatory!
