  1. Oh my goodness! We just switched to the Joy from this weekend’s  cancelled Escape trip!!!

i am laughing my head off it’s so unbelievable 😀. Got a 💯 FCC from the Escape, wonder if we’d get another one if this gets canned too, ha!!

Question on this CVS test.... Is it available for tourists as well, or US guys only?

I’m from England and was in Florida over Christmas and New Year. Got my preflight return test at CVS drive thru but had to use a friend’s US registered phone to access the website and book the appointment as it blocked me on mine.

  3. I’d go with a cruise...done loads of solo trips and whilst each time has been different I’ve met so many amazing people and built some great friendships. One big factor for me is that in a resort, people are coming and going all the time whereas on a cruise it’s the same people the entire trip so you see familiar faces and get to know people a bit more. The studio cabins, solo lounge and solo get togethers on NCL really help you settle in and meet people you might have written off in every day life.   The Epic is a dead cert for a lively crowd, Getaway was the same and Bliss. I’m sure others will tell you about awesome solo experiences across the fleet but I’d stick with the ships that have studio cabins. You can join in the fun even if you’re not staying in one which is pretty cool. Have a fabulous time whatever you decide!

  4. Loving all these live reviews! Am planning b2b on Breakaway for Christmas and new year solo so will be interested for news from the solo zone...will be my first time on Breakaway after several trips on Epic (on her again in 2 weeks, yay!), Bliss and Getaway. Happy packing, remember to look at what’s going in the case and ask if it sparks joy!!!

  5. Yes, NCL have been updating latitudes tiers based on the old requirements for some time now. A few people have mentioned this happening to them. I initially thought that if only applied if you had booked the cruise before the changes, but now I’m not so sure.

It isn’t surprising that you haven’t heard about it though. It is a positive thing, so only qualifies for one post about it every three months or so. If it was a negative there would be a few long threads about it every week. :)

  6. There is definitely a hairdresser on board, had a really good cut when I used the salon...think it was about $80. I booked whilst onboard but it sounds like you might need to call (as others have said) if you want to try and set things up in advance. Happy snipping!

  7. I’ve always stayed at the airport. I decided I’d rather get to my hotel ASAP and then wake up refreshed for a trip to the port. I stay at the Hyatt which is in the airport so there’s no extra travel at all..bit pricey but works for me after flying in from the uk.

The port isn’t that far though, maybe 40/50 mins and there are a number of fly/snooze/cruise packages that might help you decide. Either way, once you’re on a beautiful ship, all the travel activity is forgotten!

  8. It depends what you want to do on board. There’s the option to not spend a single bean if you don’t want to.

If you don’t have the drinks package there’s free water, tea, coffee available . Loads of free places to eat so you’ll never starve. But if you want to eat at a speciality restaurant, or buy drinks, or play bingo, or bowl, or get a fancy coffee, or have a spa treatment then that’s all extra. The majority of the entertainment and activities are included, a few have a fee.

Plenty of people have a zero bill, like I said you can choose to pay for something if you want it.

I hope you have a fabulous trip and get hooked on cruising like most of us on these boards, you’ll get a hundred opinions, some grumps and some fun folk but I’m sure all of us want you to have a memorable adventure!

  9. Loving this review! I’ll be on the ship, solo, for new year after spending Christmas week on the Bliss so it’s great to read your story. I’ve done the Epic 6 times and their solo set up has been amazing, we now have an annual reunion on the ship with some of the great people I’ve met. Really looking forward to trying out the Getaway!

  10. Thoroughly enjoying your live report, as I enjoy all of your reviews! Maybe this will be the NCL ship that I finally get to sail on...., honestly most any ship will do at this point! (after a very long, very cold Canadian winter), but so happy to follow along with your journey, and always informative, but amusing review:)

  11. Lovely review! You’re definitely my kind of cruiser who looks for the good times and doesn’t dwell on the bad. I get an allergic reaction every trip...palm of my right hand and all the way to my elbow...it’s only ever in these places and could be connected to my ‘holding a drink and resting on the bar’ position of choice! It gets really bad but it’s just one of those things. You mentioned you grew to hate your balcony but I’m not sure why, unless it was the rubbish view whilst reflecting on your hives!!

    Keep on cruising!!

  12. Booked one for a group of friends over New Year 2017 and honestly it was amazing! Just having a space where you can sit in the shade, chat drink and relax together made our day magical. I have nothing but fond memories, our food was great and the bar service excellent. I say get it booked, sure you won’t regret it!

  13. Hi All

Hoping to get some advice. I’m switching ships between Christmas 2018 and New Year which means an overnight stay in Miami on 29 Dec. I’m travelling solo and wondered if there were any recommendations on what to do for this one night. Do I stay near the port or better to head further afield?

I’ve had a look at hotels and I’m a bit overwhelmed to say the least and due to time of year there’s a lot already fully booked so I’d like to get something in the bag soon!!

I’m not planning on venturing out I just want somewhere decent to stay for a lazy day by the pool so I can restart my trip ASAP the following day.

Thanks in advance, I know you guys always deliver the goods!!

  14. Folks! Sorry I haven’t been posting, I missed a few days and never got round to providing the updates and just really couldn’t be bothered to carry on!!! So I’m not ill, injured, missing any tech items...just suffering from a bad bout of extreme laziness! I have had a ball, brilliant trip with fabulous people. Hilights include two bar crawls, the most recent taking place yesterday with some fellow cruise critic-ers. That was an immense day of booze and laughs and I highly recommend this pastime. It’s our last day today, GSC was cancelled so we’ve come back to Nassau where it’s a bit chilly to say the least.

So I’ll love you and leave you and maybe I’ll become a better cruise citizen as the cruise fam reunion is in July and will no doubt bring more crazy fun. In the meantime I’ll be giving Royal a go in April on the Oasis. And I’ll be doing a ‘side to side’ at Christmas (thank you Art for advising the correct terminology!) involving the Bliss and the Getaway.

    Happy cruising y’all!!!

  15. It’s not GSC day without a pint of Fireball! Bottoms up!

Ha! Those memories of our magical adventure mean the world to me! Well, in a truly coincidental event, fireball has been consumed! Lovely Art ( asked him if it was short for Artemis, in the same way Val is short for Valkyrie !) has a bit of previous that allegedly makes said liqueur taste like ‘mom’s apple pie’. That concoction involved the fireball being ‘diluted’ with cider and I can assure any eager would-be sommeliers that it actually smells and tastes of death.

I reverted to Corona, after numerous vodka based delights, got suckered in to making a fake spa appointment and spent the morning giggling with assorted passengers. I re-met a lovely lady from ‘uddersfield (if you’re from that neck of the woods you’ll understand the spelling) and discussed hair do’s with a sweetheart from Atlanta.

Tonight is pre Christmas night out which will involve much magic and sparkle so I decided a pre snooze was required and headed back to my room. Left unsupervised I noticed some of my fellow passengers had magnetic whiteboards hung on their cabin doors. I fear I may have been predictable and some defacing may have occurred. I’ll spare you the details but you probably know me well enough by now to make some good guesses about what fine art was created...

  16. Followers...big announcement. This girl has just escorted the dolly bird back to her room. She was discovered in a somewhat blemished state and I stepped in to deal with the aftermath. I don’t know what came over me but I was a true friend, the victim was placed in the recovery position, pillows behind to prevent rolling over and the bathroom bin strategically placed to catch any overspill. My work here is done, where’s my booze?!!
