  1. Thank you for the info.

I am trying to decide about a retreat cabana on a Hawaii cruise. We have 10 sea days so a cabana sounds great, just wondering about the weather crossing the Pacific Ocean in November?

Does anyone have experience with this?

Are the partitions between the retreat cabanas on the Eurodam solid or fabric?

Lastly are you looking thru plastic or glass on the side retreat cabanas and does this effect the view?

  2. I have read that some recent CruiseLine's have altered their Hawaii itinerary to avoid Hilo and Kona due to greater levels of volcanic smog, which has been affecting the air quality throughout the southern part of the island.

Does anyone have any further information regarding changes to Hawaii cruise itineraries?

Does anyone have information regarding changes to HAL's Hawaii cruise itineraries?

  4. Wondering about the usefulness of a cabana in the retreat area of the Eurodam? We will have 10 sea days on this cruise crossing the Pacific in November. I am concerned about the wind and weather in the cabana area but they sound so relaxing. Any suggestions would be welcome. We were looking at the Cabanas that face aft.

Also, has anyone been to Hawaii in November, does the rain prohibit shore excursions at that time of the year?

    Thank you.

  5. Thank you Senior Gators. Would you answer one more question for me.....

In cabin 3000 were you able to have an unobstructed view looking forwards? It looks as though the bow of the ship might be high enough to partially obscure your view, especially if you were seated in your cabin.

    Thank you.

  6. I have seen photos on several websites and Viking cabin reviews which show a bathroom photo with the bow of the ship appearing in the window over the bathtub. How is this possible anatomically based on the location of the bathroom?

Thank you to cruise critic detectives who may be able to solve this mystery.

  7. Does anyone know the "indoor" square feet on the forward explorer suites on deck 4 vs deck 5?

Are there any obstructions to view on deck 4 or 5?

Deck 3 - looks like the ship's bow may obstruct view? Thank you

It also looks like there is a window over the bath tub on the forward explorer suites - but can not tell for sure.

    Thanks for your help.

  8. I am wondering if any river cruises offer alternative to main dining room at dinner? I had thought that the Aquavit Terrace was breakfast and lunch only.

My friend is over 80 and a 7 pm meal is a bit late for her. She is also vegetarian and wonder if a certain line may offer more vegetarian selection.

Thank you for your input. We are planning our first river cruise and want to select the best Seine cruise for our needs.

  9. I was just notified that Viking Sky will no longer visit PEI. We were scheduled to arrive in Charlottetown at 8:00am from Halifax but were told that due to slow speeds we would not be able to arrive in Charlottetown in time for morning shore excursions. We will be sailing from Halifax to Gaspe instead. Viking has done a great job arranging new excursions. My cabin mate is from Canada and wonders how we can arrive in Gaspe (at 8:00 am) but not make it to Charlottetown by 8:00 am. However, she has always wanted to visit Gaspe so looks like a great substitution. Thank you Viking.

  10. love non-alcoholic Ginger Beer. Is there anywhere close to the Manhattan cruise terminal to purchase this item?

Also, does anyone know what types of soda are available on the Viking Sky? I could survive without ginger beer of course, but diet or sugar free ginger-ale would be a substitute.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  12. I just scheduled the 10:30 a.m. Ellis Island Hard Hat tour for October.

The website indicates I need to be at Ellis Island one hour prior to the start of the tour - this would mean I should be at Ellis Island by 9:30 a.m.

What time should we arrive Battery Park?

What time does Battery Park security check open?

If the first ferry is at 9:00 a.m?

Does the 9:00 A.M. ferry give enough time to arrive an hour before the 10:30 Hard Hat tour?

I have heard that most schools and tour groups take the 9:00 a.m. ferry - will we be able to get on?

Can we get on any Ferry we choose with a 10:30 a.m. Hard Hat ticket

  13. I posted at the beginning of the year regarding a trip to Ellis Island in during our first trip to NY in October. We will be staying in Manhattan. My companion is 80 years old and although Ellis Island is on her bucket list it seems as if the trip would be quite challenging.

I can not see us navigating the subway (especially at morning rush hour) so we would most likely need a taxi from the Manhattan/Central Park Courtyard to the Ferry.

Does anyone know how long this would take or how expensive this would be?

If we arrived for the first morning ferry to Ellis Island (Tues or Wed) - would there still be a lengthy wait in line for tickets/boarding? We do not plan on touring the Statue of Liberty but will save our energy for Ellis.

Lastly - a few very basic questions - how to we get a taxi for the trip to the Ferry or the return trip back to the Manhattan Hotel. I have seen many posts indicating the importance of using an "official" cab. How do we know which are official taxis and would we call a cab company from the ferry or would there be taxis waiting outside the hotel/ferry (again, how would we know which cab company to use).

  14. Thanks for the info on departures - I now have a picture in my mind - which helps.

I hope you will allow a few more novice questions: Is the Berth number and Pier number speaking of the same thing. Is the ship listed under it's pier number or berth number and is there a way I can discover the location in advance.

  15. I am a bit confused about the taxi drop-off process at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

I have read several posts indicating the drop-off is on street level, other threads indicate drop-off is on second level and luggage is taken down to level one via elevator where it is given to a porter.

We will not be parking. Does the taxi drop off on level one (which I assume is street level), where the porters take our luggage and then we proceed to customs hall on level 2?

    Thank you for the clarification.

  17. I have been reading the threads related to JFK Taxi and Car Service and am undecided.

I would appreciate input as to how difficult getting out of JFK would be for two female travelers in their 70s with little experience.

It sounds easy to pick up our luggage, find our way to the taxis, and tell the driver the name of the hotel, but is it simple? We have never been to JFK and it sounds like a large and busy airport.

Is the taxi area well marked? Will there be additional fees?

Is a car service that would meet us at baggage claim easier? It would cost more but we will be arriving at 6PM after a flight for Los Angeles - we will be both tired.

    Thank you Everyone
