  1. We are two seniors who will be disembarking in Montreal in Mid-October and plan to stay a few days in Montreal. During this time we will be making a few visits to St. Lambert to see friends. We want to stay in Montreal and wonder which Montreal hotels would be most convenient for transportation to St. Lambert (and what transportation options exist). Would the metro be a reasonable option or too difficult for 80 year-olds?

    Thank

  2. I am sharing a cabin with a friend on an Oct cruise - Viking Sky.

When scheduling shared excursions do we each book one seat on our own accounts, or can I book both seats on my account? We will only taking the "included" excursions but want to be sure we are together.

Also, how many nights for specialty restaurants can we book in advance?

Will we be able to see the Chef's Table menu in advance of the cruise? I understand they will always offer a vegetarian option.

    Thank you so much.

  3. I have read that the remodeled Montreal Cruise Terminal will be completed in May of this year, but that the temporary location may also continue to be used if needed. The port schedule lists dock H6 for the Viking Sky in October 0f 2017. Does anyone know where this will be located - Remodeled or temporary location?

  4. We really want to visit Ellis Island prior to our October cruise to Montreal but are concerned that it may be too difficult for my 80 year old friend.

138East posted that if we stayed in Midtown we would have to travel to the tip of Manhattan just to get to the Ferry.

Great input - we had not considered that and now wonder about possibly staying in Lower Manhattan instead of Midtown.

Has anyone been to Ellis Island? How long does it take to tour and what areas are open to the public? My friend and I are both nurses and would love to see the old hospital if that is open.Perhaps there are some package tours that include the transportation.

  5. My friend and I are traveling to New York in October for a few days prior to our Viking Ocean Cruise to Montreal. We will be arriving at JFK around 3 pm and would welcome suggestions for transportation and hotels.

My friend is over 80 so conserving energy is important when it comes to transportation options.

I believe traveling from the airport by bus or train would be too tiring for her.

We would like to visit Ellis Island and Central Park but not sure if there is a tour that would handle to transportation to the sites.

For hotels, we would like to be near Central Park but in a quieter area.

We are very used to living in Los Angeles, but New York seems rather overwhelming...and exciting.

  6. I am trying to decide between port- side cabins on deck 7 or 8. I hope for some help as deck 7 seems more convenient but deck 8 quiet.

1). I am confused about the existence of a port-side passenger entrance/exit to the Explorer lounge or would I need to walk back to the elevator and circle back to the starboard side main entrance? My fellow cruiser is 80 years old so walking is an issue.

    2) On Deck 7 are the cabins quiet and secluded or would there be traffic/noise related to the other venues on that deck?

    3) is deck 8 the smoking area and can that odor ne noticed on the Sun Deck or Cabins/balconies on that deck.

Thanks to all the previous Viking Cruisers.

  7. I am interested in the Eastern Seaborard cruise in September 2017 aboard the Viking Sky. I have read some posts regarding the re-deployment of this ship and want to be sure there would not be any last minute changes. Does anyone know if the September 2017 cruises are going to sail as planned.

Also does anyone have any experience with the the 7th deck cabins. I wonder if they have a lot of foot traffic due to the venues on that deck. Deck 8 looks quieter but underneath the sports deck. I would appreciate any input . 80th birthday cruise and want it to be really special.

Never cruised on Viking and it would be a big splurge.

    Thank you.

  8. I am looking at taking the train from London Liverpool Street Station to Harwich International on the day of my cruise. The cruise train is very appealing as it is non-stop, but expensive and times are very limited.

However, the regular train from Liverpool Street to Harwich has about a 5 min layover time to change platforms at Manningtee Station (down stairs, tunnel under the tracks and then up the stairs on the other side). I am in fairly good shape but no olympian and doubt I could make this transition in the given time.

Does anyone have any input on the idea of purchasing one ticket from LIverpool Street to Manningtee and then a second ticket (departing 30-60 min later) to proceed from Manningtee to Harwich.

This would give me many more options as to what time I depart (the cruise train seems to only be 1-2 times daily but the regular train seems hourly) and I believe I could manage my bags up and down the stairs for a platform change if I had more than 5-10 min window.

    Aging is not for sissys.

    Thank you

  9. Dynamic Currency Conversion is a new area for me.

Please let me know if I have the basic concept correct -

I understand that there can be differences in conversion rates between vendors/merchants and the conversion rate used by the U.S. bank issuing my credit card. In addition, the bank can also charge a fee for this conversion process.

Celebrity would ordinarily convert my shipboard charges from whatever currency is connected to their company's country of registration into U.S. Dollars (in my case). Would there be a fee for this conversion?

If I ask that Celebrity does not convert, then the charges will be forwarded to the U.S. bank that issues my credit card and my bank will do the conversion (with perhaps a better rate) but there may be a foreign transaction fee charged for the conversion.

What currency would my shipboard charges appear in, if I do notCelebrity to covert the charges to US Dollars?

    Thank you.

  10. My friend and I will be in Invergordon Mid August 2013. It will be her 76th birthday and I would like to plan a lovely day for her.

We could go into Inverness as I am certain there are wonderful resturants and shops - however a nice walk and lunch in Inverness would be nice also.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thank you
