  1. I am on the Port side going from Ft. Lauderdale to Southampton next May. Did you find you had a lack of sun on the port side? Or was it okay? I understand the Port side gets less sun, but I am more interested in seeing a sunset than a sunrise....given I plan to sleep until noon everyday.

We were out and about in the daytime but when back in the cabin from say 6pm onwards we would sit out until it was time to get ready for dinner, and some evenings we had a late night cuppa at 11pm or later out there. Watching the sunset was lovely. We only had two chairs and a table so we couldn't sunbathe but it was quite sunny and we were so pleased with the upgrade.

  2. We just arrived home from the Adventure of the seas transatlantic from San Juan. Thanks to the upgrade fairy we had a balcony on deck seven on the port side. We sat on the balcony every day up until the day before Southampton. There were people around the outdoor pool but that was too cold for us and the balcony was more sheltered. We usually book an inside but were spoilt this cruise.

  3. I am happy to report that the future cruise deposit money was refunded to our credit account while we were away on our Ventura cruise. We spoke to the ladies on the FC booking desk and tried to clarify the rules. At the moment on Ventura you can pay a FCD and it will be valid on all cruises except those using Tesco clubcard vouchers. The letter they give you still says not to be used with net fares. She explained that a net fare is one where P & O find themselves with lots of unsold cabin for a particular cruise. They then sell these off to various travel agents for 'cost' price and then the agent sells them cheaply to fill the ship. Full cabins mean profit from onboard spend rather than fares, but it's still profit.

  4. For Auld Reekie.

Having been told we could not use our FCD for our next cruise my husband wrote again to P & O to say he accepted that we would not receive the promised onboard credit but we wanted our deposit allowed as OBC or our money back. We received a letter yesterday saying 'I am sorry that you are unhappy that the benefits cannot be applied to the above booking reference, the reason this cannot be done is due to the promotional offer that you have booked.' To me this implies that unless we book at brochure price we will never get the promised OBC. The letter goes on to say that we can't have our deposit money as OBC but they will refund it and cancel any reference to FCD. I had to phone and confirm that this was acceptable and when I did the woman I spoke to told me I couldn't have a refund. She wanted to extend the time that we had to choose and book another cruise. I told her I had this letter and to get on with arranging the refund. She says our deposit will be refunded to our credit card. I'll keep you informed.

  5. Hi cheshirepen

We were not expecting £100 but we were expecting £50 for a booking of 14 nights. We were not even getting the money we paid as a deposit credited against our cruise. Nobody mentioned a net fare. P & O said that the cruise was too cheap so we couldn't have the OBC, fair enough but to hang on to my money is not on. Having booked and paid for a cruise, cheap or not, I probably won't book another this year, especially as I have a wedding to pay for. Someone posted earlier that they had booked two cruises and not been allowed to use the money they had already paid to reduce the balance on either. Also they have changed the wording of the letter since we paid our money last year.

  6. Hi southwinds,

I don't intend to spend my holiday moaning at the girl on the future cruise desk but I do intend to ask her for the 'rules' so I don't get caught out on another occasion. My husband has written to P & O and someone from Head office phoned him with their explanation which he was not satisfied with. Basically the letter they send now when they confirm that you have made a FCD is not the same letter that we received. The new one talks about Tesco clubcard vouchers but there is no mention of these in our letter. Seems like they have reviewed the terms after we paid our money. I think they should refund my FCD if they are not going to accept it on this cruise. How do we know that they won't say the same thing if we book another one?

  7. Hello southwinds,

It is not the agents fault that our details were not on P & O system correctly. P & O had my husbands first name with my middle name and surname and his Portunus number. When my husband spoke to them they didn't say it was too late to apply the prepaid deposit, they said we couldn't have it because the cruise was being sold too cheaply to qualify. That would have been the case whoever we booked with as all the agents were very similar prices. They are making the offer on the 2 and 3 night cruises so why not on the one we booked? I just want my own money back and I'm not prepared to book a cruise by Sept to get it.
