  1. I don’t want to carry a styrofoam cooler around till the room is ready. The collapsible goes in our checked luggage. I also have a collapsible cooler from REI that is a little larger than 12/12/12 that I think we will take. Thanks for the help.

If anyone has a full list of beers or know where I can find, it would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I did an advanced search and could not find what I was looking for.

I am before final payment. My booking came with free gratuities and OBC. Now the price is lower with same OBC and a free meal at a specialty restaurant. We have an interior room. I wanted to move to an obstructed ovean view as it is less than what we paid and keep my free grats/OBC. Was told I can’t do that without rebooking and would lose my gratuities.

I then asked if I could get the new price on the interior we have booked and keep my free grats/OBC and not get the free meal. The CS agent with Princess said the same thing...I can’t get the new price without loosing my free gratuities and would need to do a new booking for the lower price in the interior as well. Does this sound correct?

  3. We will be sailing on Caribbean Princess in May and the family is looking forward to our first cruise on Princess. We have sailed previously on Royal (7 cruises) and Carnival (1 cruise) and have enjoyed each. I have some questions that I could use some help.

I found somewhere on the Princess web site that you are not allowed to take a cooler that is larger than 12x12. If you do so, it will not be allowed on board and it will not be returned. Are they only referring to hard coolers? We always take soda with us and I pack a soft sided cooler in my checked luggage that is certainly larger than 12x12. It is an Icemule cooler and I would hate to lose it. Our cabin steward has always supplied us with ice to keep our drinks as well as unopened beers cold.

Does anyone have a link or a full list of beers on board?Again, I have looked at the Princess site and can only find what appears to be a partial list that is on one of the specialty restaurant’s menu.

    Thanks for any help.

  4. Yes? In the US, most businesses will refund the amount paid if the price drops within a certain period - 7, 14 or 30 days depending on the retailer and product.

However a cruise isnt a product. Airlines and such dont refund you the difference.

My airline does not refund me the difference, but if I catch a reduction in cost, I do get a credit for the difference. Must be used within 12 months of the day I booked for another flight. It is a good way to keep me loyal.

  5. What cruise line was this? RCL will call you down to the 'naughty room'. I've always heard they are not allowed to open your bag outside of your presence, even if unlocked.

We took rum-runners just once but the drink packages make that unnecessary.

We were on a RCL cruise a couple of years ago and had our RR's removed from our unlocked luggage. Found a note inside the bag. I may still have it somewhere, so if I can find it I will post.

On the plus side, having them removed saved us over $150 on our bar tab from our previous cruise. No RR's, no need to purchase the Bloody Mary's and the Daiquiri's that we would have added the contents of the RR's.

  6. Plan on going to one of the beach bars for the day. We would be ordering adult beverages and lunch from wherever we decide to go, but wanted to know if we can take our own cooler as far as soft drinks and bottled waters?

    Thanks for any help.

  7. Buy a cooler bag of beers on the first full day. I think it's $60.00 for 8 16oz beers. The bag is cool, a cooler, comes with a bottle opener, and.... you can get it refilled at an even cheaper price. I'm bringing mine from a past cruise tomorrow on Harmony OTS.

Maybe, maybe not. I have bought one of the coolers...was a decent deal on my cruise for re-fills. It was buy 5 get 1 for free and I was told I could bring it on ALL my future sailings and would get the same Special. Not so. Was told sorry, it's not one of our deals this week. I hope your luck is better than mine.

  8. Thanks to ckrobyn's posting of menus on her recent 8 night cruise on Freedom. This may not be everything, but here are most of the changes that were made.

    Giovanni's:

This was already reported, but the Filet has been removed from the menu.

    MDR:

-Escargot is not an every night option. (most but not all nights)

-Shrimp Cocktail is not an every night option either...was not on the menu as a starter more than 3 nights.

-Aged Hand-Cut Manhattan Strip Steak is no longer an every night option as a classic...only appeared on the menu 2 or 3 nights.

-Prime Rib has been removed and replaced with Slow-Roasted Beef Striploin.

-Pan-Fried Fillet of Barramundi is now Pan-Fried Silver Corvina.

-Roast Duck has been removed and replaced with Rosemary Roasted Half Chicken.

-Filet of Beef Tenderloin has been removed and replaced with a Seared Sirloin Steak.

-Surf and Turf(Petit Filet with baked Jumbo Shrimp) has been removed and replaced with Braised Beef Duo.

-White Misobrushed Cod Fillet is now a Cilantro-Crusted Cod Loin.

-Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder was added to the Pimiento menu.

-Veal Scaloppine Oscar with Crab has been removed and replaced with a Breaded Pork Chop.

-Roasted Rack of Lamb is removed.

-Garlic Shrimp no longer being served with the Broiled lobster tail.

-All Desserts appear to be unchanged.

I know we will not go hungry, but overall, I would say I hate the changes that have been made. I can't imagine that many reported that the garlic shrimp ruined the lobster tail, or that having Shrimp Cocktail and the Manhatten Steak as an option every night made their dining choice difficult. I will venture a guess and say that this menu translates into less cost for Royal.

Are you seeing these same changes on other ships? Thoughts?

  9. Also, if you have an OBC for any other promotion, you do not qualify for the bring a friend. Found that out a couple of years ago. Some friends sailed with us on their first Royal cruise and had two cabins booked. I am going to guess they spent about $5,000+ and Royal can't let go of $50 because I already had an OBC. You are handed 5K with the potential that this family will want to cruise with Royal again and can't give a guy what amounts to 8 beers.

Escargot and Shrimp Cocktail are gone again after a one-night showing. For the Main Courses selection, they have removed the Surf and Turf (Petit filet with baked jumbo shrimp) and replaced it with the Braised Beef Duo. What was a White Miso-brushed Cod Fillet is now a Cilantro-crusted Cod Loin. Everything else appears to be the same.

For the Saffron menu, the Starter and the Dessert menu's are the same. It is good to see the Escargot and Shrimp Cocktail back. I wonder if it will be on the menu every night from here on or just select nights.

Classics: No Manhattan Strip Steak so I am guessing it is gone for good. Maybe this is what they are serving now at Giovanni's in place of the Filet.

Main Courses: Gone are the Roasted Duck and the Filet of Beef Tenderloin. They have been replaced by a Rosemary Roasted Half Chicken and a Seared Sirloin Steak. My daughter will not be happy that the Duck is gone and this will be a major disappointment. It was her favorite meal of the week. The Pan-Fried Fillet of Barramundi is now a Pan-Fried Silver Corvina. I am not that familiar with either (had to google both). I am going to go out on a limb and say the Silver Corvina costs less and is thus more appealing to Royal.

After two nights I would say I am not crazy about what I have seen so far.

  12. Here's the first night's menu as requested

We are sailing in March so following. I am not happy with some of the changes that I see on the menu since our last cruise for the Moho selection.

Starters: no Escargots and no Shrimp Cocktail. Main Courses: no Prime Rib...replaced with Slow-Roasted Beef Striploin. Classics: no Manhattan Strip Steak. Desserts are all the same.

The Escargot and Shrimp Cocktail would be our primary selections. Not much left except I believe I remember the Smoked Fish Rillettes being pretty good. I hate that the Prime Rib is gone. The Strip Steak was a decent choice (remembering that it is cruise ship food)...as this was my son's go-to when there was nothing else on the menu that he liked. I hate to see it go as I would usually have at least one night as well.

Please keep posting the menus for each night as I would really like to compare what is still available.

    Thanks

  13. Sad for sure. The filet at Giovanni's was the best steak on the ship.

Is this par for the course? Let's take something that is really good...many even say it is great. We can replace it with something that people will not like as much. Yes, that is a good idea! Let's replace it with something that is not near as delicious. Now we can steer them to Chops and on top of that, we can charge them more $$$. The Suits are working hard.

  14. We have been to Le Gallion beach once and it was not crowded at all. I don't think it is very popular with the cruise ship crowd. They have chairs for rent and a place for food and drink. It has been a few years since we were there, so I don't remember the cost of our cab or how long it took to get there. When we were ready to leave they called a cab to come get us. With your horse-back riding set to end at 2:00, it may be difficult to get to the beach before you will need to return to the ship by 4:30. I would think there are too many variables from traffic, where are you riding, and will you have a cab waiting on you once you are finished. I certainly think you can get to LG, I just don't know that you will have much time there. I would not book with anyone as any cab will get you there.

  15. We are going to be on Freedom in March. Drink Packages are currently available to purchase at the 20% discount, however, the Select Package does not show as an option..only the Premium and Ultimate and they are within $2 of each other. Is the Select no longer available or can you only purchase once on board? If it is available, any idea of the per day cost and is Red Stripe and Blue Moon included? Thanks for any help.
