  1. If you take a NY yellow cab, the flat fare will appear on the meter and you can charge it(and the toll and the tip). If the cabbie tries to charge you more than that get a receipt or merely write down the cab medallion number which will be something like 8c75...and file an overcharge complaint at www.nyc.gov/tlc and if possible get the cabbies name and license number

believe me the last place a cabbie wants to be is before a hearing office at the tlc..and you don't have to be present at the hearing!

Know the company where you get it from if you use a car service limo company. Limo companies do charge waiting time if they have to wait for you.

Great advise about the car service charging a waiting fee. Just going with the cab. Cashed out my loose change bank on my night stand and it came to $63.00. I allocated it to the cab fare and tip. Kind of like found money!

    thanks for all the input.

  2. I read two different prices on line for the cost of a cab from Manhattan cruise terminal to JFK. From what I understand taxis charge a flat fare from anywhere in Manhattan to JFK. I saw one price of $47 and one of $52 on the nyc.gov site.

We are getting off the Splendor on Saturday Sept 6, 2014. Can anyone confirm what the flat fare. I don't care which it is I just want to confirm it is a flat fare in this ballpark. I don't want to get to JFK and have the guy tell me I owe $100. Also, the shuttles I looked at said it would take about 90minutes to get to the airport, I can get to my family's home upstate in that amount of time. How long do you think a taxi should take?

    Thank you

  3. We just finished a b2b2b and we hit Nassau each cruise. We went to Junkanoo on the first leg of the 3 cruises and had a blast! It was our first time to Junkanoo but wasn't our last. We went back on the other two cruises as well. Byron, the bartender at the Bikini Tiki Hut (first hut you come to under the welcome sign), really keeps the party going and the drinks are cheap. One guy sitting next to me had a yard glass from Senor Frog and said Byron was giving him unlimited refills for $20! He was a happy camper. Three beers and three shots for $10 is a great deal. If you go make sure to tell Byron Tom Hanks sent you!

  4. Back from our b2b2b and hands down The Binkini Tiki Bar at Junl=kanoo Beach was the place to go. We had a blast there! Byron was the bartender and he kept the place buzzing. We stopped by on each of our three stops in Nassau and really did have a good time without a lot out of pocket. It is 3 beers and 3 shots for $10.00 The beer is Sands, a Bahamian beer and very good. Worth the walk over from the ship.

If you go and Byron is working tell him Tom Hanks sent you!

  5. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. We are going to Junkaroo Beach and Casablanca. Probably stop in a store and grab a beer for the road too. In any case, we will have a beer for all the good ones that left us too soon. We had a friend go out on the Breeze last month, he had a stoke and died in Jamaica. He was a great guy who loved to cruise and never had a bad word to say about any one. So we"ll have one for the ones no longer with us and one as thanks that we are still here!

  6. What's the cost for the Sheraton day pass? Just wanted to know to be able to compare costs with the other hotel mentioned here. Junkanoo beach sounds cheaper but looks like the only thing you can rent are chairs and an umbrella. With hubby and two boys, it'd be nice to have the option of renting snorkel gear, kayaks, and other beach toys.

According to their website it is $30 per person.

  7. If you want cheap - There is a Supermarket just up the hill from the sea where people go to by the mixers for their rumrunners!;)

Oh we have our rum runners! We stock up with juice in the morning at breakfast. The guava juice(mix) is good with rum or vodka. And I will buy a few buckets on board, but I like to find a place in port where I can have a few beers and not pay $6-$8 a pop. We just got back from a Bermuda cruise. A 12oz Bud in a local bar was$7.50! Sometimes I 'll buy a soda card on board for my mixers too.

  8. The bar at Maho has a surf board sign listing what time the planes are coming and going and the type of plane. Is there somewhere you can get that info before getting to St Maarten to help plan your day??

We stopped there first on our last visit and didn't see any large jets. I'm seeing posts that say the big jets start more in the early afternoon.

  9. We went to Gumbalimba Park. It was one of my favorite excursions. We walked through the rain forest. We stopped at one point of the walk and there were beautiful birds of different types let loose that flew all around us. They also let you hold the birds. It was pretty cool. Then we when to see the monkeys. They ran loose and jump from person to person. They were so fast. We spent quite a bit of time with them. They were sneaky too. They would steal things out of your pants pockets, back packs and purses before you knew what hit you. Great fun. Bring a camera. I left mine on the ship and boy did I regret it. They had humming bird feeders with dozens of hummingbirds that you could walk right up to and they would fly away. They had no fear at all. It was amazing.

The picture here of my DW and I was taken there. They also had zip lines which I wish I had signed up for. Great place to spend the day.
