Also like to order room service and I really don't care if it takes 30 to 40 minutes for room service to bring it, but if a butler has to interrupt his duties, I'm thinking probably not.
If it is during the butlers regular working hours you would not be interrupting his duties, this is one of his duties. We usually ask the butler the 1st day what his "normal hours" are. NCL butlers are awesome.

First time we had a suite the butler rang the doorbell and we had no idea what it was (never had a doorbell on a cruise before). He finally ended up knocking. We still laugh about it today.
We also ask very little of the butler (always have been happy with their service) and they make us feel like we are underutilizing them.
Sea Monster I think how long the individual has been butlering may have a lot to do with the level of comfort and service.

NCL has a smoking policy, you just don't like it.

If you want to do something extra for a special server you can 1) leave cash at the table 2) make sure you get their name and add it to your onboard account at the purser's desk or 3) make sure you get their name and fill out a STYLE card for them. The STYLE cards mean bonuses, promotions, etc. so if any staff member shines take the time to fill one out.
This is good advice. We like to leave a few bucks on the table, even in the buffet. Not alot, between $1 and $5 depending where we eat and how much work we are. If we get a great server we try to get his/her name and leave a STYLE card for them. I consider the share of the DSC the crew receives part of thier base compensation no matter how you try to spin it. I like to show my appreciation and thanks to the people who specifically impact my cruise positivley. This also applies to the bartenders;). This is just the way we were brought up.

We never even consider the auto grat in the price. If I sign slip and it says $7.19, that drink in that glass at that venue is $7.19. I make a note, and know what it costs. We keep an eye out for a good bartender, tip him/her a $1 per drink, they remember you and treat you good.
