  1. It has been a while since I have been on here. We had a blast on the Salute to Veterans cruise 1,2 and 4 (didn't make 3). Our 5th one leaves from Puerto Rico on September 20, 2014.

Plans for the 6th one are in the works for October 2015. Beverly has the info. If You are cruising with knowledge, you would be CRUISINGSMART.

We have a former POW as our guest speaker this year.:D

  2. As others have said, your tips are already paid for. The staff gets notification so they know you are not "stiffing" them. If you feel they did a great job (and most of us feel that way), adding some cash at the end is gratefully appreciated. If not, then don't. We are some of the few who tip our Cabin Steward on day 1. I slip him/her a $20 and ask that we have ice in the room, etc. I don't know if it helps service or not, as we always got great service before, but since we started to do this, our Cabin Stewards have always gone above and beyond for us and always with a smile.

I have always slipped the Cabin Steward a $20 on day 1 when I first meet them. They have never disappointed me with constant ice, cleaning when I need it or anything. $20 isn't going to make or break you. If you feel that they didn't fulfill your expectations, remove it at the end.

We will be on the Jewel in September 2014 for our 5th SALUTE TO VETERANS CRUISE:D

  3. And I am the friend..

OK, first off. Carnival DOES offer Military both active, Retired or Veteran a discount.. I might suggest that you contact Carnival and talk with a PVP. (Personal Vacation Planner) I can't suggest one by name here due to rules.. Also you can contact a good travel agent for information on Military Discounts..

Now for Veteran cruises.. I was on the Carnival Valor in 2009 for a Veterans cruise.. It was a blast.. We even had a gentleman by the name of Sammy Davis, a CMoH recipient with us. (Look him up, he deserved it and many more) The Veterans cruise was set up by others and not CCL.. We just had it on a CCL ship.. CCL was very helpful however it was a TA that did all the work.. Again due to rules, I can't offer up that TA's information.

Do some research both here and on GOOGLE and the next one should pop up.. (More than likely you will have better luck on GOOGLE)

    I hope that this helps..

Thank you all for your service..

    Mike,

We are back for our 4th Salute to Veterans cruise in May of 2013. You are correct, we did have a blast especially enjoyed Sammy. The second one had Maj Donlan CMH. It was a blast also. We are trying to get this one going and so far the response has been good. Missed you on the second one.

Hope all is well with you guys

  4. We are having our 4th Salute to Veterans cruise in May 2013. We hope you can join us. It will be on the Freedom out of Fort Lauderdale going to the Southern Caribbean. We are just a group of Veterans, familie and supporters that cruise for fun. Let me know if anyone is interested. It is not an organized cruise, but a group that gets together. Everyone is welcome. We have great rates and amenities.:D

  5. If I am not mistaken, they will all have a sofa in them whether they have a pull down bunk or not.

I was in 1207 on the Freedom in January. This cabin had a sofa and single bed. It had portholes which made the cabin look much bigger and let in daylight. I loved it and would not hesitate to get it again. I was by myself, but, if I brought my wife with me, we could get by with the same room with her in the bed and me on the sofa.:D

  6. The Ivy Leaves patch I see: Would that be the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division? If so, thank you for your service! Will check out the cruise you mentioned, but I'm on CC primarily looking for information on the Carnival Spirit's repositioning cruises from Vancouver to Sydney in September 2012.

It is the 4th Infantry Division. I was with the Division in Vietnam and am currently the Executive Director of the National 4th Infantry Division Association.:D

  7. I just found this board. I have been on two cruises in the past that were a salute to Veterans. Both were a great hit and had a great turnout. There is another one scheduled for May 2012 going to Alaska.:D

You can contact me for more info at the email below if you are interested

  8. I was on this cruise with the Salute to Veterans Cruise 2. We used Mario for a private yacht tour of the locks. We went through all 3 locks. We were in the lock when the cruise ship was going through the other way. What a sight. I loved the trip.

After seeing the way people live in other countries, you should appreciate the way we live even more.

    Thanks for the great review:D
